Exploring New Service Portfolio Management
2017
Most research on the management of innovation portfolios has focused on new product portfolios, whereas the management of new service portfolios has not been researched correspondingly. This paper addresses this literature gap by exploring portfolio management of New Service Development (NSD) activities empirically. The paper applies a qualitative research design, where data was collected in 52 in-depth interviews with managers and employees involved with NSD. The study finds that the portfolio management activities and processes were carried out in parallel with the NSD process, and that the most important stakeholders in the NSD portfolio management organization were top managers not inv…
Automating the Parameter Selection in VRP: An Off-line Parameter Tuning Tool Comparison
2014
Vehicle route optimization is an important application of combinatorial optimization. Therefore, a variety of methods has been proposed to solve different challenging vehicle routing problems. An important step in adopting these methods to solve real-life problems is to find appropriate parameters for the routing algorithms. In this chapter, we show how this task can be automated using parameter tuning by presenting a set of comparative experiments on seven state-of-the-art tuning methods. We analyze the suitability of these methods in configuring routing algorithms, and give the first critical comparison of automated parameter tuners in vehicle routing. Our experimental results show that t…
Reducing Local Alphabet Size in Recognizable Picture Languages
2021
A recognizable picture language is defined as the projection of a local picture language defined by a set of two-by-two tiles, i.e. by a strictly-locally-testable (SLT) language of order 2. The family of recognizable picture languages is also defined, using larger k by k tiles, \(k>2\), by the projection of the corresponding SLT language. A basic measure of the descriptive complexity of a picture language is given by the size of the SLT alphabet using two-by-two tiles, more precisely by the so-called alphabetic ratio of sizes: SLT-alphabet/picture-alphabet. We study how the alphabetic ratio changes moving from two to larger tile sizes, and we obtain the following result: any recognizable pi…
On a projective representation of chain geometries
1984
We define a distance d on the set of r-spaces of an n-space. By the transfer of d to the GrasmannianG=G(n, r) we obtain a distinguished class of normal rational curves of order 1, the “1-distance lines’, 1=1,..., r, which are in 1–1-correspondence to the so-called “generalized reguli of type (r, 1)”.
Approximation of Feasible Parameter Set in worst case identification of block-oriented nonlinear models
2003
Abstract The estimation of the Feasible Parameter Set for block-oriented nonlinear models in a worst case setting is considered. A bounding procedure is determined both for polytopic and ellipsoidie sets, consisting in the projection of the FPS ⊂ R MN of the extended parameter vector onto suitable M or N-dimensional subspaces and in the solution of convex optimization problems which provide the extreme points of the Parameter Uncertainties Intervals of the model parameteres. Bounds obtained are tighter then in the previous approaches.
Which measures are projections of purely unrectifiable one-dimensional Hausdorff measures
2008
We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a measure p, on the real line to be an orthogonal projection of XAl for some purely 1-unrectifiable planar set A.
Review of Knowledge Management Models for Implementation within Advanced Product Quality Planning
2014
The purpose of this paper is to review different Knowledge Management Models (KMM) based on their strengths and weaknesses and to ascertain their possible implementation within the scope of the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) procedure. The KMM listed are selected based on an extensive literature review. They are presented in a visual manner and analyzed based on their structure and features, versus a predetermined set of criteria. This study offers an overview and a critical discussion of the merits and faults of a number KMM and suggests possible improvement avenues.
Mobile agents, globus and resource discovery
2004
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses grid technology and some related problem. The overview of grids, in terms of application fields and needed protocols is given. The common feature of all grid architectures is a coordinated and controlled resource sharing between the members of a dynamic multi-institutional virtual community. The members of such a community agree on which resources will be shared and which members of the community will be enabled to access these resources, thus defining a set of sharing rules and permissions. The Globus project is discussed, which is nowadays the de facto standard for grid environments, with emphasis on its resource discovery components. Finally, the …
Detection of Anomalous HTTP Requests Based on Advanced N-gram Model and Clustering Techniques
2013
Nowadays HTTP servers and applications are some of the most popular targets for network attacks. In this research, we consider an algorithm for HTTP intrusions detection based on simple clustering algorithms and advanced processing of HTTP requests which allows the analysis of all queries at once and does not separate them by resource. The method proposed allows detection of HTTP intrusions in case of continuously updated web-applications and does not require a set of HTTP requests free of attacks to build the normal user behaviour model. The algorithm is tested using logs acquired from a large real-life web service and, as a result, all attacks from these logs are detected, while the numbe…
Landscape structure, resilience and ecogeographic relations between agro-forestry and forestry landscapes of Sicily: quantitative approaches
2014
Landscape ecology provides a wide spectrum of useful techniques for quantitative analysis of the land-mosaic patterns, on the basis of areal, linear and punctual parameters. According to the scale of analysis, data collection can be costly and time-consuming; this is especially true in areas with a very heterogeneous land-mosaic patterns and landscape-types for environmental variability and cultural reasons. Aims of this work are: 1) to assess the land-mosaic complexity of the traditional agricultural and agro-forestry landscapes (PAfT) of Sicily; 2) to highlight interfaces and structural gradients between main forest areas and closed PAfTs. These aims have the main purpose to pinpoint agri…
