The hardware part of this system is composed of a new optical innovative probe with which two types of images can be acquired simultaneously: an anatomic image acquired under a white light and a functional one based on autofluorescence from the protoporphyrin within the cancer cells. Camera-based measurement of relative image contrast in projection displays

International audience; This research investigated the measured contrast of projection displays based on pictures taken by un-calibrated digital cameras under typical viewing conditions. A high-end radiometer was employed as a reference to the physical response of projection luminance. Checkerboard, gray scale and color complex test images with a range of the projector's brightness and contrast settings were projected. Two local and two global contrast metrics were evaluated on the acquired pictures. Ultra-short pulse propagation in birefringent fibers-the projection operator method

International audience; We examine the propagation of ultra-short optical light pulses in dispersion-managed birefringent fiber transmission systems, in which the pulse dynamics is governed by the coupled higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equations with higher-order linear and nonlinear optical effects. We derive the equations of motion in terms of pulse parameters such as amplitude, temporal position, width, chirp, frequency and phase, using a projection operator method, and we obtain the spatial dynamical behavior of picosecond and femtosecond pulse parameters. From our detailed analysis, we show that the stimulated Raman scattering has a strong impact on the pulse dynamics.

This paper describes the design of a high resolution low cost imaging system for the analysis of high speed particle projection. This system, based on a camera and a set of flashes, is used to characterize the centrifugal spreading of fertilizer particles ejected at speeds of environ 30 m s. Multiexposure images collected with the camera installed perpendicular to the output flow of granules are analysed to estimate the trajectories of the fertilizer granules. Very good results are obtained with the Markov random fields method, in comparison with others.

This study aims at developing new routes for manufacturing Al matrix composites (AMCs) strengthened with nano reinforcements by solid-state cold spraying (CS) process. Three different AMCs including CNTs/Al, TiB2/AlSi10Mg and TiB2/7075Al were successfully fabricated by CS of the composite powders prepared using different approaches. Neurobiological Models of the Central Complex and the Mushroom Bodies

This study reviews the actual knowledge on functions of the central complex (CX) and the mushroom bodies (MBs) in a genetic model insect, the fly Drosophila melanogaster. Ongoing research of UNIMAINZ and respective data are included. Reference is made to other insects, where respective functions are not yet studied in Drosophila. Neuroanatomical information is reported with regard to the general flow of information in these central brain neuropils. Particular projection systems and circuits are taken into account where this can be linked to functions. Models are developed.
Conceptual design and simulation of a water Cherenkov muon veto for the XENON1T experiment

XENON is a direct detection dark matter project, consisting of a time projection chamber (TPC) that uses xenon in double phase as a sensitive detection medium. XENON100, located at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) in Italy, is one of the most sensitive experiments of its field. During the operation of XENON100, the design and construction of the next generation detector (of ton-scale mass) of the XENON project, XENON1T, is taking place. XENON1T is being installed at LNGS as well.
