Gastrointestinal parasites of two populations of Arctic foxes (Vulpes lagopus) from north-east Greenland

2017

Parasitological examination of 275 faecal samples from Arctic foxes (Vulpes lagopus) collected at Zackenberg Valley and Karupelv Valley in north-east Greenland from 2006 to 2008 was conducted using sieving and microscopy. Overall, 125 (45.5%) samples contained parasite eggs of Taenia crassiceps, Taenia serialis, Toxascaris leonina, Eucoleus boehmi, Physalopteridae and Ancylostomatidae, and Strongyloides-like larvae. As long-term ecological studies are conducted at both sampling locations, the present findings constitute a baseline data set for further parasitological monitoring.

Genomics of speciation and introgression in Princess cichlid fishes from Lake Tanganyika.

2016

How variation in the genome translates into biological diversity and new species originate has endured as the mystery of mysteries in evolutionary biology. African cichlid fishes are prime model systems to address speciation-related questions for their remarkable taxonomic and phenotypic diversity, and the possible role of gene flow in this process. Here, we capitalize on genome sequencing and phylogenomic analyses to address the relative impacts of incomplete lineage sorting, introgression and hybrid speciation in the Neolamprologus savoryi-complex (the 'Princess cichlids') from Lake Tanganyika. We present a time-calibrated species tree based on whole-genome sequences and provide strong ev…

Sophocles strove to bring about a greater integration of the chorus into the dramatic action at the same time as he focused the action …

Are there individual concepts? Proper names and individual concepts in SI—Nets

1989

We discuss some aspects of the role played by descriptional knowledge in expressions denoting individual objects. In knowledge representation systems such as KL-ONE and KRYPTON which use semantic networks to express descriptional information, the problem is to establish whether the use of individual concepts in a network is justified. In the light of theoretical and applicational considerations, in the proposed solution only definite descriptions are considered as being characterizable by means of definitions. Vice versa, proper names, in the strict sense, will be treated as having no definitional dimension, and as such only appear in the assertional knowledge base. A description is given o…

A Method for Designing Tools for Information Retrieval from Documents

1987

The paper describes an experimental document database language. It consists of document database extensions to Prolog. An extended Prolog is suitable for specifying, prototyping, and in some cases also for implementing information retrieval tools.

Flora Ossette’s ‘feminist visibility’ in her translation of Olive Schreiner’s Woman and Labour

2011

The prologue and the fi rst stasimon of Oedipus at Colonus: a comparative study

2017

In this paper we analyze the fi rst stasimon of the tragedy Oedipus at Colonus of Sophocles based …

2017

ABSTRACT : Miguel de Cervantes has his own gallery of images that have come down to posterity, but who painted the portraits of Miguel de  Cervantes that have been discovered over the course of time? Beginning with the verbal self-portrait of himself that Cervantes crafts in the prologue of his  Novelas ejemplares (1613), this study traces the route of the different portraits sine 1738 that have been claimed as the true image of the author from Alcala de Henares. It is a path that follows along the character known as Miguel de Cervantes, which has imposed itself on the myth, taking precedence over the man who lived during the Golden Age. KEYWORDS: Cervantes; Portrait; Cervantine Iconography…
