Applying health promoting sports club standards in the Netherlands

This study explores health promotion activity of Dutch sports clubs by using the Health Promoting Sports Clubs (HPSC) standards, which are developed in Finland and here applied to the Dutch sports context. The standards consist of 23 items which cover different perspectives on health promotion. The standards form an overall HPSC index, which is used to create health promotion profiles for the sports clubs. 17 sports clubs from the municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch participated in this study, of which 42 club officials (1-6 per club) evaluated their own club on all HPSC standards on a five-point Likert scale. Objective: To investigate participation and effectiveness of a multiyear comprehensive workplace health promotion (WHP) program. Methods: Participation and effectiveness data came from employer and vendor systems. Health data came from health risk assessments (HRA) and biometric screenings. Participation and effectiveness were analyzed using descriptive analyses, T-tests and Mann-Whitney U tests where appropriate. Overall impact was assessed using the PIPE Impact Metric. Results: 86% of employees completed the HRA and 80% the biometrical screenings. Annual participation rate was 24%, and total reach was 58%. Promotional activities in the field of taxation have as main objective to influence the fiscal behavior of taxpayers. Fiscal policy promotion involves a set of actions to boost a free consent of taxpayers to pay tax liabilities. Tax institutions are interested in creating a favorable attitude of taxpayers towards taxes. Communication between taxpayers and public institutions is vital because tax administration should assure taxpayers’ information about its existence and mission. Starting with these premises, the paper presents some current techniques of promotion used by Romanian public institutions to promote their image among taxpayers.

Settings-based approaches have become an increasing health promotion focus since the World Health Organization’s 1986 Ottawa Charter. While schools, cities, and prisons have implemented this approach, its development within sports environments is recent. Sports are a popular leisure-time activity, requiring validated tools to measure health promotion activity.
