Pacienta pašnovērtējums pirms un pēc propofola i/v ievadīšanas endoskopiskiem izmeklējumiem
2020
Wavelet variance differences in atrial fibrillation during anaesthetic effect
2008
Effect of anaesthetic agents in restoration rhythm procedures during atrial fibrillation (AF) has not been fully investigated. We evaluated the effects of a widely used anaesthetic agent (propofol) in the fibrillation patterns. Intra-atrial recordings belong to 18 patients diagnosed with AF were analyzed ldquobeforerdquo (baseline) and ldquoduringrdquo anaesthetic infusion. The goal of this study is to characterize the variation in atrial properties along the atria in both states. The wavelet variance decomposes the variance of a time series on a scale by scale basis and hence has considerable appeal when physical phenomena are analyzed in terms of variations operating over a range of diffe…
Die intraoperative Hyperpyrexie bei Osteogenesis imperfecta-Betroffenen
2000
The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different types of anesthesia upon the intra- and postoperative body temperature in osteogenesis imperfecta patients. The development of an intraoperative hyperpyrexia of unknown origin is a typical phenomenon in patients with osteogenesis imperfecta. Body temperatures of up to 40 degrees C are known to complicate the operation. Therefore, in a retrospective study, the pre-, intra- and postoperative body temperature curves of 45 operations under different anaesthesias were measured. Group A underwent a common balanced anaesthesia with the volatile anaesthetic Enfluran in combination with Fentanyl, while group B was operated on under tot…
Effects of Propofol on H-reflex in Humans
2001
Background Depression of spinal cord motoneuron excitability has been proposed to contribute to surgical immobility. The H-reflex, which measures alpha-motoneuron excitability, is depressed by volatile anesthetics, whereas the action of propofol is unknown. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of propofol anesthesia on the H-reflex. Methods In 13 patients (group 1), H-reflex was measured before (T0), 3 min after (T1), and 10 min after (T2) a 2-mg/kg bolus dose of propofol, followed by an infusion of 10 mg x kg(-1) x h(-1). Ten patients (group 2) were studied when propofol was given via a programmable pump set to a propofol blood concentration of 6 microg/ml, and 10 pati…
Propofol sedation reduces diaphragm activity in spontaneously breathing patients: ultrasound assessment.
2017
BACKGROUND: The diaphragm is the most important respiratory muscle in humans, and the close relationship between inspired volume and diaphragmatic movement in normal subjects has led to investigations into diaphragmatic activity using ultrasound, during spontaneous breathing and sedative drug infusion. METHODS: A total of 36 consecutive patients undergoing diagnostic procedures under deep propofol sedation were studied. Ultrasound measurements included the following: diaphragmatic thickening end-inspiration (TEI) and endexpiration (TEE). Diaphragmatic thickening fraction (DTF) was calculated from [(TEI TEE) / TEE] at various time points (at T0 basal; at T1 during propofol infusion; at T2 aw…
Role of the Endothelium in the Relaxation Induced by Propofol and Thiopental in Isolated Arteries from Man
1997
Abstract Induction of anaesthesia with intravenous propofol and thiopental is often accompanied by hypotension. This study evaluates whether propofol and thiopental induce relaxation of isolated arteries from man and whether this effect is modulated by the endothelium. Mesenteric artery rings (with and without endothelium) from 12 patients were placed in organ baths and precontracted with phenylephrine before addition of propofol (10−3 M) or thiopental (10−3 M). Relaxation induced by propofol and thiopental was evaluated for rings with intact endothelium in the presence of the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor NG-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (l-NAME; 10−4 M) or the cyclooxygenase inhibitor i…
Determination of propofol by GC/MS and fast GC/MS-TOF in two cases of poisoning
2017
Two cases of suspected acute and lethal intoxication caused by propofol were delivered by the judicial authority to the Department of Sciences for Health Promotion and Mother-Child Care in Palermo, Sicily. In the first case a female nurse was found in a hotel room, where she lived with her mother; four 10 mg/mL vials and two 20 mg/mL vials of propofol were found near the decedent along with syringes and needles. In the second case a male nurse was found in the operating room of a hospital, along with a used syringe. In both cases a preliminary systematic and toxicological analysis indicated the presence of propofol in the blood and urine. As a result, a method for the quantitative determina…
Does general anesthesia have a clinical impact on intraocular pressure in children?
2016
Summary Background Reliable measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP) is crucial in pediatric patients with suspected glaucoma. General anesthesia (GA) is usually needed in infants to allow a thorough examination. However, anesthesia itself may influence IOP, depending on the type used and the depth of sedation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the normal distribution of IOP during GA in healthy children and to analyze differences in IOP relative to the anesthetics used and the measurement time point. Methods Approval for this observational study was received from the local institutional review boards and written informed consent was obtained from the children's parents. A total of…
Impact of inhalation vs. intravenous anaesthesia on autonomic nerves and internal anal sphincter tone.
2014
Background Pelvic intraoperative neuromonitoring (pIONM) aims to identify and spare the autonomic nerves and maintain patients’ quality of life. The effect of anaesthetic agents on the pIONM signal is unknown; therefore, the aim of the present study was to compare the influences of inhalation anaesthesia (IA) and total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA). Methods Twenty rectal cancer patients undergoing open nerve-sparing total mesorectal excision (TME) were assigned to pIONM under either IA or TIVA (n = 10 per group). IA was maintained with sevoflurane and TIVA with propofol. During surgery, pelvic autonomic nerves were electrically stimulated under electromyography (EMG) of the internal anal s…
