Integrative analysis of cyclin protein levels identifies cyclin b1 as a classifier and predictor of outcomes in breast cancer
2009
Abstract Purpose: We studied the expression levels of cyclins B1, D1, and E1 and the implications of cyclin overexpression for patient outcomes in distinct breast cancer subtypes defined by clinical variables and transcriptional profiling. Experimental Design: The expression levels of cyclins B1, D1, and E1 were quantified in 779 breast tumors and 53 cell lines using reverse phase protein arrays and/or transcriptional profiling. Results: Whereas cyclin E1 overexpression was a specific marker of triple-negative and basal-like tumors, cyclin B1 overexpression occurred in poor prognosis hormone receptor–positive, luminal B and basal-like breast cancers. Cyclin D1 overexpression occurred in lum…
Retrograde in situ versus antegrade pulmonary preservation in clinical lung transplantation: a single-centre experience.
2014
OBJECTIVE Experimental and clinical studies have indicated a beneficial effect of retrograde lung preservation on post-transplant results. Accordingly, we conducted a non-randomized trial. METHODS A total of 209 consecutive recipients transplanted with low-potassium dextrane (LPD)-preserved lungs were eligible for analysis. Antegrade lung preservation (AP) was performed in 173 patients and retrograde in situ perfusion (RP) in 36 patients using low-potassium dextrane solution in all cases. The prostacycline was added to preservation solution. RESULTS The main donor, graft and recipient characteristics did not differ significantly between groups. There was a beneficial trend toward improved o…
Maternal adiposity in pregnancy and offspring asthma in adulthood.
2018
High maternal body mass index in pregnancy was associated with an increased prevalence of offspring asthma in men in adult life
Outcome after mitral valve operations with depressed left ventricular function.
2012
We retrospectively investigated 42 patients (27 men, 15 women; mean age, 67 years) with severe mitral valve incompetence and endstage cardiomyopathy (ejection fraction <30%) who were operated on between January 2002 and March 2009. Of these, 14 were in New York Heart Association class IV, and 27 were in class III. The etiology was ischemic in 18 patients and idiopathic dilated in 24. Mitral valve repair was performed in 25 patients, and 17 had mitral valve replacement. The mean logistic EuroSCORE was 33.41. The mean follow-up was 44.52 months. There were no perioperative deaths. Three patients died within 30 days postoperatively. Thirty-day mortality was lower than predicted by EuroSCOR…
Long-term performance of the bovine pericardium patch in conventional carotid endarterectomy.
2014
Objective The aim of the study was to analyze long-term results of carotid endarterectomy (CEA) using bovine pericardium patch. Patients and Methods This study is a retrospective analysis of 274 consecutive cases (173 in CEA group and 101 patients in an internal control group of eversion endarterectomy [EEA]) operated between January 2005 and May 2007. Operations were performed according to standard surgical technique. Primary endpoints of the study were 30-day mortality, ipsilateral neurologic event rate, and high-grade restenosis in the long-term follow-up. Results No statistically significance between both groups was found in terms of gender, age, risk factors, medication (statine, plate…
Sociodemographic factors associated with time to discharge for hospitalised patients with asthma and asthma exacerbation using the Ghana Health Servi…
2021
ObjectiveData on asthma hospitalisations are a useful source of patient morbidity information. In Ghana, the length of stay (LoS) and sociodemographic factors of patients hospitalised for asthma and its exacerbation are understudied. We aimed to investigate the time to discharge and assessed factors associated with length of hospital stays of asthmatics in Ghana.MethodsRetrospective analysis of hospitalised patient with asthma records between 2012 and 2017 from the nationwide Ghana Health Service District Health Information Management System 2 database. We calculated the cumulative incidence function for discharge stratified by age group and sex. Multivariable Cox regression was used to inv…
The amyotrophic lateral sclerosis functional rating scale predicts survival time in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients on invasive mechanical ven…
2007
Objective: To determine whether the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis functional rating scale (ALSFRS), which is a validated instrument that assesses the functional status and the disease progression in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), predicts hospital length of stay and survival time in ALS patients treated with tracheostomy-intermittent positive-pressure ventilation (TIPPV). Methods: Thirty-three consecutive ALS patients with acute respiratory failure who received therapy with TIPPV were prospectively followed up from their admission to the hospital until death. The association of ALSFRS score at hospital admission with length of hospital stay and survival after TIPPV were …
Factors predicting poor survival after lung-sparing radical pleurectomy of IMIG stage III malignant pleural mesothelioma.
2012
OBJECTIVES: The role of radical pleurectomy (RP) in the management of IMIG stage III in malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) remains controversial. The aim of the study was to investigate the feasibility and outcome as well as to determine factors predicting poor survival. METHODS: Patients having IMIG stage III MPM were identified within a prospective multimodality treatment study (RP followed by chemoradiation) between 2002 and 2010 at a single institution. Kaplan–Meier analyses, log-rank test and Cox regression analyses were used to estimate survival and to determine predictors of survival. RESULTS: A total of 78 patients (66.3 ± 2.5 years, 65 males) underwent RP followed by chemoradiati…
Personalised mechanical ventilation tailored to lung morphology versus low positive end-expiratory pressure for patients with acute respiratory distr…
2019
The effect of personalised mechanical ventilation on clinical outcomes in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) remains uncertain and needs to be evaluated. We aimed to test whether a mechanical ventilation strategy that was personalised to individual patients' lung morphology would improve the survival of patients with ARDS when compared with standard of care.We designed a multicentre, single-blind, stratified, parallel-group, randomised controlled trial enrolling patients with moderate-to-severe ARDS in 20 university or non-university intensive care units in France. Patients older than 18 years with early ARDS for less than 12 h were randomly assigned (1:1) to either th…
Determinants of diagnostic delay in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension: results from the European CTEPH Registry.
2018
Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is characterised by chronic thrombi in the pulmonary arterial bed, causing pulmonary hypertension [1–3]. CTEPH is diagnosed in ∼3% of patients who survive a symptomatic acute pulmonary embolism (PE) [4]. While the surgical removal of chronic fibrotic thrombotic vascular occlusions by pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) may cure most patients with CTEPH by normalising pulmonary artery hemodynamics and improving symptoms, patients who remain not operated or do not undergo balloon pulmonary angioplasty have severe functional limitations, and poor quality of life and survival [5, 6]. Since the natural course of CTEPH involves progressive remodell…
