Isolation of fibroblasts for coating of meshes for reconstructive surgery: differences between mesh types.

Aims: An extensive colonization of surgical meshes with autologous fibroblasts may reduce complications. Therefore, we aimed to establish a technique that allows isolation and propagation of fibroblasts from vaginal biopsies. Using these cells we tested the applicability of several clinically applied meshes for fibroblast coating. Materials & methods: Fibroblasts were isolated from vaginal tissue after digestion with collagenase. Closed foldable capsular rings

2004

A new foldable capsular tension and bending ring system with a sharp-edged design is described. The closed foldable capsular rings (CFCR) consist of 8 hydrophobic and 8 hydrophilic ring segments. The CFCRs have a 9.2 mm minimum overall diameter. The CFCRs were inserted using various cartridge systems or a two-folded technique with a forceps. The CFCRs were implanted after phacoemulsification through a small (1.6 to 3.2 mm) incision in 104 human adult eyes without intraoperative complications. No postoperative complications such as capsule folds or inward bending were observed over a 6-month follow-up. Posterior capsule opacification was minimal or absent in all eyes.

The titanium-made growth-guidance technique for early-onset scoliosis at minimum 2-year follow-up: A prospective multicenter study.

Background The management of early-onset scoliosis (EOS) remains a serious challenge in pediatric orthopedics. The growth-guidance system (GGS) is a surgical option that allows continuous growth along a rod, averting the need for repeated operative lengthening. Objectives The objective of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of the GGS in the treatment of EOS. Material and methods A prospective study, including 81 patients from 4 departments treated with this method from 2013 to 2015, was conducted with a minimum follow-up period of 24 months. Fixation-free incisional hernia repair in the elderly: our experience with a tentacle-shaped implant.

Visual quality with corneo-scleral contact lenses after intracorneal ring segment (ICRS) implantation for keratoconus management

Purpose: To evaluate the visual quality results when fitting a corneo-scleral contact lens (CScL) after intracorneal ring segment (ICRS) implantation for keratoconus management.
