In-vitro-Untersuchung von biologischen und technischen Herzklappenprothesen im MRT: Beurteilung möglicher Anziehung und Erhitzung der Implantate

2000

PURPOSE In vitro evaluation of possible deflection and heating of present-day prosthetic heart valves during MR imaging at 1.5 T. METHODS 17 prosthetic heart valves, 12 technical and 5 biological, were investigated using a 1.5 Tesla Siemens Vision system. Deflection was measured at the edge of a 1.5 Tesla superconducting magnet. Each valve was then submerged in a vial of a 1/1 electrolyte solution and temperature was measured before and after imaging with a turbo-spin-echo sequence (TR 5200 ms, TE 138 ms, Flip angle 180 degrees, acquisition time 10.5 minutes, length of echo train 29). MR imaging was performed with phase encoding parallel and perpendicular to the plane of the valves. RESULTS…

Radiologische Veränderungen nach Implantation zweier unterschiedlicher zementfreier Hüftschaftsysteme

1997

PURPOSE: Of the study was to evaluate radiological alterations of the femoral bone after implantation of two different prostheses. METHODS: 81 patients with 87 hips underwent total hip arthroplasty by using the Zweymuller-stem fixating in the medullary canal, and 175 patients with 182 ABG-stems with a proximally fixating, anatomical design were followed up clinically and radiologically. RESULTS: Adaptive bone remodelling in Zweymuller-stems showed in some patients thickening of the cortex of the femur and proximal bone-stock loss; reactive lines were seen in the proximal areas surrounding the prosthesis. Radiographs of patients with ABG-stems showed these lines in the distal, smooth part of…

Neo-nervegenesis in 3D dynamic responsive implant for inguinal hernia repair. Qualitative study.

2020

Abstract Background Prosthetic repair of inguinal hernias is one of the most performed surgical procedures. Nevertheless, high rates of complications affect the surgical treatment. Implant fixation, poor-quality tissue ingrowth and mesh shrinkage seem to be involved in postoperative complications, discomfort and chronic pain following inguinal hernia repair. To address these issues a multilamellar shaped 3D dynamic responsive prosthesis has been developed. This new implant, positioned fixation-free to obliterate the hernia opening, thanks its inherent dynamic compliance during inguinal movements, has demonstrated to induce an enhanced biological response. The ingrowth of newly formed muscle…

Endovascular Treatment of Spontaneous and Isolated Infrarenal Acute Aortic Syndrome with Unibody Aortic Stent-Grafts

2020

Abstract Introduction Spontaneous acute aortic syndrome (IAAS) is rarely localized in the infrarenal aorta. The endovascular approach is preferred over conventional open surgery with fewer complications. However, dedicated endovascular devices for IAAS treatment are unavailable. The aim was to report a large single-center experience using unibody stent-grafts to address IAAS. Methods From April 2016 to March 2019, a retrospective analysis of patients presenting spontaneous and isolated IAAS was performed. Patients addressed with the unibody stent-graft (AFX endovascular AAA system; Endologix Inc., Irvine, CA) were included in the study. Indications to IAAS treatment were persistent symptoms…

Ergebnisse zementfreier Endoprothesen bei der nichttraumatischen Hüftkopfnekrose

2001

AIM OF THE STUDY The results from 56 patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head who underwent 66 uncemented total hip replacements were analyzed and compared with current reports in the literature on cemented endoprosthesis. METHODS In the retrospective study in 30 of those cases the Zweymuller and in 25 cases the HA-coated ABG prosthesis were used. In addition the results of 11 patients with a polyethylene Endler cup in combination with a Zweymuller stem are presented. The mean age at surgery was 48 years, the mean follow-up was 5.9 years. Clinical examination, registration of the Merle d'Aubigne score and a radiological examination were performed. RESULTS The clinical results did not…

Jugular pacing lead extraction with laser sheath: a case report.

2010

Over the past 20 years, the number of patients with pacemakers (PM) or implantable cardioverter defibrillators has risen markedly; consequently, an increasing number of lead-removal procedures have become necessary. A 64-year-old woman presenting with an infected device pocket and positive bacterial cultures ( Staphylococcus aureus ) was admitted to our department for lead removal; in 1991, she underwent VVI PM implantation for atrioventricular II degree Mobitz 1 block, and a unipolar lead was introduced via the left jugular vein. The procedure was performed in our Electrophysiology Lab with a cardiac surgeon on standby, using an excimer laser system emitting the energy at the tip of a flex…

Drug eluting and bare metal stents in people with and without diabetes: Collaborative network meta-analysis

2008

Objective To compare the effectiveness and safety of three types of stents (sirolimus eluting, paclitaxel eluting, and bare metal) in people with and without diabetes mellitus. Design Collaborative network meta-analysis. Data sources Electronic databases (Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials), relevant websites, reference lists, conference abstracts, reviews, book chapters, and proceedings of advisory panels for the US Food and Drug Administration. Manufacturers and trialists provided additional data. Review methods Network meta-analysis with a mixed treatment comparison method to combine direct within trial comparisons between stents with indirect evidence fr…

Biodegradable polymer-coated thin strut sirolimus- -eluting stent versus durable polymer-coated everolimus-eluting stent in the diabetic population.

2021

Background: The number of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) presenting with coronary artery disease is increasing and accounts for more than 30% of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). The biodegradable polymer drug-eluting stents were developed to improve vascular healing. It was sought herein, to determine 1-year clinical follow-up in patients with DM treated with the thin strut biodegradable polymer-coated sirolimus-eluting stent (BP-SES) versus durable coating everolimus-eluting stent (DP-EES). Methods: Patients were retrospectively analyzed with DM were treated with either a BP-SES (ALEX™, Balton, Poland, n = 670) or a DP-EES (XIENCE™, Abbott, USA, n = 884)…

Patient selection, echocardiographic screening and treatment strategies for interventional tricuspid repair using the edge-to-edge repair technique

2018

Severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) has long been neglected despite its well-known association with mortality. While surgical mortality rates remain high in isolated tricuspid valve surgery, interventional TR repair is rapidly evolving as an alternative to cardiac surgery in selected patients at high surgical risk. Currently, interventional edge-to-edge repair is the most frequently applied technique for TR repair even though a device has not been developed for this particular indication. Due to the inherent differences in tricuspid and mitral valve anatomy and pathology, percutaneous repair of the tricuspid valve is challenging due to a variety of factors including the complexity and varia…
