In 128 patients with apparently normally functioning prosthetic valves ( n = 136) in the aortic position ( n = 79) and the mitral position ( n = 57), the prevalence of transprosthetic regurgitant flow was studied by use of transthoracic and transesophageal two-dimensional color-coded Doppler echocardiography. With the transthoracic approach, regurgitant flow was detected in early systole or diastole for 28% of the mitral prostheses and for 29% of the aortic prostheses. With transesophageal color-coded Doppler echocardiography, regurgitant jets were visualized for 95% of the mitral prostheses and for 44% of the aortic prostheses. Juxtapapillary duodenal diverticular bezor as an exceptional cause of biliary stent obstruction. Case report.

INTRODUCTION: we describe the first case in literature of biliary stent obstruction by bezoar impaction in a iuxtapapillary duodenal diverticulum. CASE REPORT: this case illustrates an juxtapapillary duodenal diverticulum and bezoar in it causing obstructive jaundice in subject with two biliary stents for cholangiocarcinoma (Klatskin's tumor) in the absence of bile duct stones. RESULT: successful treatment with endoscopic stent removal and diverticulum toilette. Obstructive jaundice was cured after endoscopic removal of the bezoar and stent substitution. Thrombosis, fracture, and percutaneous removal of a patent foramen ovale closure device 1 month after successful deployment

Several different devices have been developed for the percutaneous closure of interatrial defects and patent foramen ovale. Although the implantation of these devices is both safe and effective, a number of complications, both in the early and the late follow-up, may occur. We describe a case of device fracture manifested early (1 month after implantation) with the formation of massive thrombosis on the right atrial disc. The patient was treated with anticoagulants and the device was percutaneously retrieved. Our images allowed early noninvasive therapy and emphasize the need for echocardiographic follow-up early after implantation. © 2010 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

Implant fracture is an infrequent and late biomechanical complication with a serious clinical outcome. In effect, such fractures pose important problems for both the patient and the dental surgeon. According to most literature sources, the prevalence of dental implant fractures is very low (approximately 2 fractures per 1000 implants in the mouth). Considering that implant placement is becoming increasingly popular, an increase in the number of failures due to late fractures is to be expected. Objectives: Orthodontic mini-implants (OMIs) are increasingly used in orthodontics but can fail for various reasons. This study investigates the effects of OMI design characteristics on the mechanical properties in artificial bone. The purpose of this biomechanical study was to determine whether a multidirectional fixed-angle plate with locking screws or with locking pegs in the distal fragment would optimize fixation of Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) type A3 distal radius fractures.Eight pairs of fresh-frozen human distal radii were used. The most important long-term complication in total joint replacements is aseptic osteolysis. Wear particles such as polyethylene (PE) debris are considered to be one of the causes that play a central role. Several studies indicated that PE can be visualised in paraffin-embedded tissue sections not only by polarised light, but also after oil red staining.
