Transition and Constitution in School/Work Relations

2012

In every industrial society, there must exist some kind of a transitional mechanism between the demand for and supply of a labour force, that is, a mechanism that facilitates the transition from school to work and from job to job both inside and outside the labour force. There are at least two main ways of organising such a school-labour network. The first way follows the pattern of a marketplace, that is, the labour market process is an extension of the existing market of commodities. In this pattern, the fundamental question in the marketplace relates to buying and selling and to pricing. The second way in which a school-labour network can be organised is based on the idea of a social gua…

Derivatives of Erythropoietin That Are Tissue Protective But Not Erythropoietic

2004

Erythropoietin (EPO) is both hematopoietic and tissue protective, putatively through interaction with different receptors. We generated receptor subtype–selective ligands allowing the separation of EPO's bioactivities at the cellular level and in animals. Carbamylated EPO (CEPO) or certain EPO mutants did not bind to the classical EPO receptor (EPOR) and did not show any hematopoietic activity in human cell signaling assays or upon chronic dosing in different animal species. Nevertheless, CEPO and various nonhematopoietic mutants were cytoprotective in vitro and conferred neuroprotection against stroke, spinal cord compression, diabetic neuropathy, and experimental autoimmune encephalomyeli…

Water need of Energy Crops – one of the environmental problems of Poland

2010

The government policy updates of Poland are presented, showing legal and financial instruments for governing bioenergy developments. The strategy for renewable energy must be co-ordinated with the strategy of water management in the country. The water needs are given for cool climate and extensive agriculture of Central and Eastern Europe which are few times lower than for hotter condition of Southern Europe. Despite this the rain would be not enough for water supply of most of the energy crops.

Desalination in small islands: the case study of Lampedusa (Italy)

2018

Desalination represents a common solution to overcome the water scarcity in small island. A case study is presented, considering the island of Lampedusa, located at south of Sicily (Italy). As many small islands in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, Lampedusa presents a small standalone electrical grid, entrusted to old diesel engines. For more, the renewable energy sources are extremely underdeveloped in this territory. Lampedusa is regularly affected by water scarcity, so freshwater is produced by desalination plant and sometimes transported by boat from Sicily. As sustainable solution, the paper firstly analyses the energy demand for desalination and then proposes the installation of a…

La protection des droits des enfants dans les conflits armés

2017

The protection of children's rights a victim of armed conflict is a recent and current problem which is based on the evolution of human rights and the changing nature of conflicts. It raises the question of the existence of an international legal framework consisting capable of providing protection and assistance to child plagued by hostilities. On this point, it appears that international law provides a set of legal mechanisms applicable to the child, whether direct or indirect victim of the conflict, or participate directly in hostilities. Today too many children die each day due to conflict, disease, malnutrition too are exploited and do not have the opportunity to take classes in a scho…

A set of indicators for arc faults detection based on low frequency harmonic analysis

2016

In this paper a novel set of indicators is presented for arc faults detection in electrical circuits. The indicators are defined starting from an experimental characterization of the arc fault phenomenon and the study of the arcing current in several test conditions, which were chosen in accordance with the UL 1699 Standard requirements. The proposed parameters are measured by means of a high resolution low frequency spectral analysis of the arcing current, which allows to achieve a good spectral resolution even with short observation windows.

Assessing the feasibility of cogeneration retrofit and district heating/cooling networks in small Italian islands

2017

Sustainability of energy supply strategies in small islands has been emerging as a severe issue, due to the large margins for improvement and rationalization of the most frequently adopted solutions. In most of the European islands, large amounts of heat are wasted by the operation of engine-based power plants; conversely, heat is produced by boilers (supplied by liquid fuels) or by electric equipment for a number of different uses, like domestic hot water production or space heating in winter. In this paper a techno-economic analysis is proposed to assess the feasibility of CHP-retrofit of the existing power plants and the possible utilization of the recovered heat to supply, via a distric…

Sequential design of multioverlapping controllers for structural vibration control of tall buildings under seismic excitation

2012

In this article, a computationally effective strategy to obtain multioverlapping controllers via the inclusion principle is applied to design a state-feedback multioverlapping linear-quadratic regulator controller for a 20-story building. The proposed semidecentralized controller only requires state information of neighboring stories to compute the corresponding control actions. This particular information exchange configuration allows introducing a dramatic reduction in the transmission range required for a wireless implementation of the communications system. More specifically, just a one-story transmission range is required by the proposed multioverlapping controller, while a full-buildi…
