Measurement and analysis of broadband UVB solar radiation in Spain.
2012
Measurements of broadband UVB irradiance (290-315 nm) at 14 locations in Spain for the period 2000-2009 have been used to generate instantaneous, hourly and daily values of irradiance (W m(-2)) and radiant exposure (kJ m(-2)). These measurements, and its statistical indices, have been analyzed. For the UVB irradiance, the values corresponding to July (maximum) and December (minimum) have been analyzed as representative of the year during the whole period for all locations. For the UVB radiant exposure, the temporal evolution of daily values has been evaluated for all locations to estimate an average yearly behavior. The accumulated radiant exposure for an average year has also been studied …

Patients perception of ionising radiation risks in CT ionising exposure. Does dose bill works?
2015
Communicating to patients the magnitude of risk related to ionizing radiation exposure is problematic because of the uncertainty in estimates derived principally from epidemiological studies of large populations [1-6]. Euratom directive 59/2013 requires that dose bill will be part of the radiological report in European Countries [7]. However, how a risk is framed has a profound effect on risk perception. To date, no previous studies evaluated which could be the best way to make patient friendly dose bill. Our aim was to evaluate patients' perception of radiation exposure related to routine CT and their understanding after dose bill.

On the mend of bryophyte conservation in Spain: preparing a proposal for the inclusion of bryophytes in national species protection catalogues
2018
The Spanish bryoflora contains 1291 taxa, 272 of them included in the Spanish Red List under any threat category. Although bryophytes show a low rate of endemicity compared to vascular flora, Spanish administration’s responsibility for the conservation of these plants is very high, since the country has 63 exclusive or rare species on a European or world scale. However, the representation of this group of plants in the Spanish legislation on species conservation is merely anecdotal. Royal Decree 139/2011 of 4 February develops a list of wild protected species (LESRPE and CEEA, Spanish abbreviations) and includes only 10 species of bryophytes, all of them from the Directive Habitats and the …
Trapping AsPh3 via reaction with NiS/γ-Al2O3 in the presence of H2: Reaction mechanism and kinetics
2021
International audience; Removal of As from petroleum feedstocks is an important process which can be realized using As trapping mass containing supported nickel sulfide. In order to understand the mechanism of the trapping we studied the reaction of AsPh3 with NiS/γ-Al2O3 in the presence of H2 in a batch reactor in toluene solution at 230 °C. This reaction results in formation of NiAs, benzene and H2S. Also, the intermediate species, thiophenol and diphenylsulfide, were observed. Despite formation of NiAs layer in the course of reaction, the rate of AsPh3 decomposition is not affected by the solid state diffusion up to ∼ 50 % of nickel conversion. The rate determining step in these conditio…
Analysis of Pakistan’s policy towards Afghan refugees: a legal perspective
2021
Pakistan hosts to the world's largest single population of Afghan refugees. However, despite Pakistan's long-standing acknowledgment of Afghan refugees, their legal status remains unclear. This is due to Pakistan's refusal to sign either the 1967 Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees or the United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees (also known as the Geneva Convention). This paper investigates whether Pakistan's approach against Afghan refugees is in accordance with international law and human rights principles. Moreover, this paper seeks to provide a comprehensive response to the above question by highlighting the many difficulties that Afghan refugees have encount…
