Hyperosmolar therapy for acute brain injury: study protocol for an umbrella review of meta-analyses and an evidence mapping
2020
Introduction Acute brain injury is a challenging public health problem worldwide. Elevated intracranial pressure is a common complication after acute brain injury. Hyperosmolar therapy is one of the main therapeutic strategies for the management of intracranial hypertension. This study protocol outlines an umbrella review of meta-analyses which will investigate the benefits and harms of hyperosmolar therapy routinely used for the management of acute brain injury in the intensive care. Methods and analysis We will search PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. We will include meta-analyses of primary research studies (eg, randomised controlled trials, observat…
A Multiple Surrogate Assisted Decomposition Based Evolutionary Algorithm for Expensive Multi/Many-Objective Optimization
2019
Many-objective optimization problems (MaOPs) contain four or more conflicting objectives to be optimized. A number of efficient decomposition-based evolutionary algorithms have been developed in the recent years to solve them. However, computationally expensive MaOPs have been scarcely investigated. Typically, surrogate-assisted methods have been used in the literature to tackle computationally expensive problems, but such studies have largely focused on problems with 1–3 objectives. In this paper, we present an approach called hybrid surrogate-assisted many-objective evolutionary algorithm to solve computationally expensive MaOPs. The key features of the approach include: 1) the use of mul…
Qualitative Forschung in Deutsch als Fremdsprache
2009
Screw‐in‐screw fixation of fragility sacrum fractures provides high stability without loosening—biomechanical evaluation of a new concept
2020
Surgical treatment of fragility sacrum fractures with percutaneous sacroiliac (SI) screw fixation is associated with high failure rates. Turn-out is detected in up to 20% of the patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate a new screw-in-screw implant prototype for fragility sacrum fracture fixation. Twenty-seven artificial hemipelvises were assigned to three groups (n = 9) for instrumentation of an SI screw, the new screw-in-screw implant prototype, ora transsacral screw. Before implantation, a vertical osteotomy was set in zone 1 after Denis. All specimens were biomechanically tested to failure in upright position. Validated setup and test protocol were used for complex axial and torsi…
Chromogenic detection of nerve agent mimics
2008
The current rise in international concern over criminal terrorist attacks via chemical warfare (CW) agents has resulted in an increasing interest in the detection of these lethal chemicals. Among CW species, nerve agents are extremely dangerous and their high toxicity and ease of production underscore the need to detect these deadly chemicals via quick and reliable procedures. A number of detection systems have been developed, most of them based on enzymatic and physical methodologies. However, these usually show limitations such as low selectivity, lack of portability and a certain complexity in their use. An alternative to these classical methods that has been gaining interest in recent y…
The PROMISE study protocol: a multicenter prospective study of process optimization with interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral care for German patient…
2021
Background and purpose — Knee and hip replacement are common and increasing procedures, and an optimized care process that could be implemented in different settings would be useful. The PROMISE trial investigates whether a new care process works equally in different German settings and how the results compare with current non-standardized care. Patients and methods — This multi-center prospective mixed-method study includes 2,000 German patients receiving arthritis-related hip or knee endoprostheses. An interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral care process was developed and implemented in 3 German hospitals with different levels of care, and corresponding rehabilitation centers were included t…
Clinical and economic impact of infliximab one-hour infusion protocol in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases: A multicenter study
2017
AIM To assess the impact of short infliximab (IFX) infusion on hospital resource utilization and costs. METHODS All inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) patients who received IFX 1 h infusion from March 2007 to September 2014 in eight centers from Southern Italy were included in the analysis. Demographic, clinical and infusion related data were collected. The potential benefits related to the short infusion protocol were assessed both in terms of time saving and increased infusion unit capacity. In addition, indirect patient-related cost savings were evaluated. RESULTS One hundred and twenty-five patients were recruited (64 with ulcerative colitis and 61 with Crohn’s disease). Median duration …
Application of Zero Exclusion Condition to Stability Analysis of Computer Networks
2016
Stability, or robust [Dscr ]-stability analysis of computer network considered as a dynamic system, relies on increasing the speed of data transmission while minimizing the queuing time delays of its packets in the router buffers that can affect the overall data flow of the network traffic. We consider a zero exclusion condition as an effective method for testing and analyzing the computer networks stability. Our findings indicate that keeping control over the queuing time delays as well as including some factors of the RED algorithm and its variants, which we present in this paper, can improve the quality of network services significantly. Our method can be applicable both to single-loop a…
