Improving RF Fingerprinting Methods by Means of D2D Communication Protocol

2019

Radio Frequency (RF) fingerprinting is widely applied for indoor positioning due to the existing Wi-Fi infrastructure present in most indoor spaces (home, work, leisure, among others) and the widespread usage of smartphones everywhere. It corresponds to a simple idea, the signal signature in a location tends to be stable over the time. Therefore, with the signals received from multiple APs, a unique fingerprint can be created. However, the Wi-Fi signal is affected by many factors which degrade the positioning error range to around a few meters. This paper introduces a collaborative method based on device-to-device (D2D) communication to improve the positioning accuracy using only fingerprin…

Lead optimization through VLAK protocol: New annelated pyrrolo-pyrimidine derivatives as antitumor agents

2012

Abstract The chemometric protocol VLAK was applied to predict improvement of the biological activity of pyrrolo-pyrimidine derivatives as anticancer agents, by using the NCI ACAM Database as depository of antitumor drugs with a known mechanism of action. Among the selected compounds two of these showed a good increase in the antitumor activity. These new pyrrolo-pyrimidine compounds were demonstrated effective against the full panels of NCI DTP tumour human cell lines. The derivative 8-[3-(piperidino)propyl]-4,10-dimethyl-9-phenyl-6-(methylsulfanyl)-3,4-dihydropyrimido[1,2-c]pyrrolo[3,2-e]pyrimidin-2(8H)-one reveled efficacious against the leukemia subpanel, in particular the RPMI cell line…

Graphical information models as interfaces for Web document repositories

2000

In interorganisational processes, documents are used to record information created during the processes. Legislative processes involving several legislative organisations, or manufacturing processes involving complicated networks of companies and officials are examples of such processes. In the contemporary computerised environments a great deal of the recorded information is scattered in different kinds of Web repositories with different kinds of interfaces. The repositories should serve as valuable knowledge assets but their use may be difficult and even the knowledge about the kinds of repositories available may be insufficient. The paper presents a method for improving information manag…

Publish By Example

2008

We propose an approach for producing database publishing programs by example. The main idea is to interactively build an example document, representative of the program output. The system infers from this document, without ambiguity, the publishing program. The end-user does not need to know a programming language, a query language or the database schema.

Towards semantic-based RSS merging

2009

Merging information can be of key importance in several XML-based applications. For instance, merging the RSS news from different sources and providers can be beneficial for end-users (journalists, economists, etc.) in various scenarios. In this work, we address this issue and mainly explore the relatedness relationships between RSS entities/ elements. To validate our approach, we also provide a set of experimental tests showing satisfactory results. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg

Combining OWL ontologies usingE-Connections

2006

The standardization of the Web Ontology Language (OWL) leaves (at least) two crucial issues for Web-based ontologies unsatisfactorily resolved, namely how to represent and reason with multiple distinct, but linked ontologies, and how to enable effective knowledge reuse and sharing on the Semantic Web. In this paper, we present a solution for these fundamental problems based on E-Connections. We aim to use E-Connections to provide modelers with suitable means for developing Web ontologies in a modular way and to provide an alternative to the owl:imports construct. With such motivation, we present in this paper a syntactic and semantic extension of the Web Ontology language that covers E-Conn…

Unifying Access to Heterogeneous Document Databases through Contextual Metadata

2011

Document databases available on the Internet carry massive information resources. To a person needing a piece of information on a specific domain, finding the piece, however, is often quite problematic even though there were a representative collection of databases available on the domain. The languages used in the content, the names of document types, their structures, the ways documents are organized and their retrieval techniques often vary in the databases. The databases containing legal information on the Internet offer a typical example. For finding relevant documents and for being able to interpret the content of the documents correctly, the user may need information about the contex…

A Web Centric Semantic Mediation Approach for Spatial Information Systems

2006

International audience; Semantic mediation is increasingly at the heart of the design of emerging webbased information systems, particularly spatial information systems thatrequire the integration or interoperation of a collection of heterogeneousdata sources. Ontologies are increasingly used to represent agreed semantic ofapplications by providing formal description models and related tools toexplicitly specify the conceptual entities of an application. Past research intraditional database integration has identified key issues in the resolution ofvarious structural and semantic conflicts. Recent research effort has extendedthis early research to address the interoperability of spatial info…

Multimedia Retrieval by Means of Merge of Results from Textual and Content Based Retrieval Subsystems

2010

The main goal of this paper it is to present our experiments in ImageCLEF 2009 Campaign (photo retrieval task). In 2008 we proved empirically that the Text-based Image Retrieval (TBIR) methods defeats the Content-based Image Retrieval CBIR "quality" of results, so this time we developed several experiments in which the CBIR helps the TBIR. The TBIR System [6] main improvement is the named-entity sub-module. In case of the CBIR system [3] the number of low-level features has been increased from the 68 component used at ImageCLEF 2008 up to 114 components, and only the Mahalanobis distance has been used. We propose an ad-hoc management of the topics delivered, and the generation of XML struct…

Improving Web Prefetching by Making Predictions at Prefetch

2007

Most of the research attempts to improve Web prefetching techniques have focused on the prediction algorithm with the objective of increasing its precision or, in the best case, to reduce the user's perceived latency. In contrast, to improve prefetching performance, this work concentrates in the prefetching engine and proposes the Prediction at Prefetch (P@P) technique. This paper explains how a prefetching technique can be extended to include our P@P proposal on real world conditions without changes in the web architecture or HTTP protocol. To show how this proposal can improve prefetching performance an extensive performance evaluation study has been done and the results show that P@P can…
