Measurement of t ¯ t production with a veto on additional central jet activity in pp collisions at √ s = 7 TeV using the ATLAS detector

A measurement of the jet activity in t[bar over t] events produced in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presented, using 2.05 fb[superscript −1] of integrated luminosity collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The t[bar over t] events are selected in the dilepton decay channel with two identified b-jets from the top quark decays. Events are vetoed if they contain an additional jet with transverse momentum above a threshold in a central rapidity interval. Charged jet cross sections and properties in proton-proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV

The differential charged jet cross sections, jet fragmentation distributions, and jet shapes are measured in minimum bias proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energy ffiffi s p ¼ 7 TeV using the ALICE detector at the LHC. Jets are reconstructed from charged particle momenta in the midrapidity region using the sequential recombination kT and anti-kT as well as the SISCone jet finding algorithms with several resolution parameters in the range R ¼ 0.2–0.6. Differential jet production cross sections measured with the three jet finders are in agreement in the transverse momentum (pT) interval 20 < pjet;ch T < 100 GeV=c. Forward-backward multiplicity correlations in pp collisions at √s = 0.9, 2.76 and 7 TeV

The strength of forward-backward (FB) multiplicity correlations is measured by the ALICE detector in proton-proton (pp) collisions at √ s = 0.9, 2.76 and 7 TeV. The measurement is performed in the central pseudorapidity region (|η| 0.3 GeV/c. Two separate pseudorapidity windows of width (δη) ranging from 0.2 to 0.8 are chosen symmetrically around η = 0. The multiplicity correlation strength (bcorr) is studied as a function of the pseudorapidity gap (ηgap) between the two windows as well as the width of these windows. Recent studies have highlighted the potential of jet substructure techniques to identify the hadronic decays of boosted heavy particles. These studies all rely upon the assumption that the internal substructure of jets generated by QCD radiation is well understood. In this article, this assumption is tested on an inclusive sample of jets recorded with the ATLAS detector in 2010, which corresponds to 35 pb-1 of pp collisions delivered by the LHC at √s = 7TeV. Multi-strange baryon production at mid-rapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=2.76 TeV

The production of − and − baryons and their anti-particles in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV has been measured using the ALICE detector. The transverse momentum spectra at mid-rapidity (|y| < 0.5) for charged and hyperons have been studied in the range 0.6 < pT < 8.0 GeV/c and 1.2 < pT < 7.0 GeV/c, respectively, and in several centrality intervals (from the most central 0–10% to the most peripheral 60–80% collisions). These spectra have been compared with the predictions of recent hydrodynamic models. Charged-particle multiplicity distributions over a wide pseudorapidity range in proton-proton collisions at s√= 0.9, 7, and 8 TeV

We present the charged-particle multiplicity distributions over a wide pseudorapidity range (−3.4<η<5.0) for pp collisions at s√=0.9,7, and 8 TeV at the LHC. Results are based on information from the Silicon Pixel Detector and the Forward Multiplicity Detector of ALICE, extending the pseudorapidity coverage of the earlier publications and the high-multiplicity reach. The measurements are compared to results from the CMS experiment and to PYTHIA, PHOJET and EPOS LHC event generators, as well as IP-Glasma calculations. peerReviewed
Study of xT scaling in proton-proton collisions measured by the ALICE experiment

In this Master's Thesis an analysis of proton proton data measured by the ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) Collaboration at center-of-mass energies 7 TeV and 2.76 TeV is presented. The ALICE detector is located at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) at CERN, Switzerland. The goal of this thesis was to study whether the isolation requirement can increase the sensitivity of the xT spectra (xT=2pT/sqrt(s)) to higher-twist (HT) processes. In HT processes the outgoing hadron is produced directly in the hard subprocess, rather than in the fragmentation process described by the leading-twist (LT) processes in the perturbative QCD picture. We review the recent progress in extracting the proton fluctuating substructure by studying exclusive processes at HERA, and the applications of these developments in the interpretation of the LHC heavy ion data.
