Single hadron response measurement and calorimeter jet energy scale uncertainty with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

The uncertainty on the calorimeter energy response to jets of particles is derived for the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). First, the calorimeter response to single isolated charged hadrons is measured and compared to the Monte Carlo simulation using proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of √s = 900 GeV and 7 TeV collected during 2009 and 2010. Then, using the decay of Ks and Λ particles, the calorimeter response to specific types of particles (positively and negatively charged pions, protons, and anti-protons) is measured and compared to the Monte Carlo predictions. Investigation of Gamma Rays from the36S(p,γ)37Cl Reaction

1973

The excitation curve of the 36S(p,γ)37Cl reaction has been measured in the proton energy range 1 000-1 900 keV. 109 resonances were observed. The decay schemes for 13 resonances and energies and branching ratios of 15 bound states have been obtained by means of Ge(Li) detectors. Seven of the bound states have not been reported earlier. Lifetimes or lifetime limits of 5 bound states have been measured by means of Doppler-shift attenuation method.

Drift chamber calibration and particle identification in the P-349 experiment

The goal of the P-349 experiment is to test whether 3.5 GeV/c antiprotons produced in high-energy proton-proton collisions are polarized in view of the preparation of a polarized antiproton beam. In this article, we present the details of the ongoing analysis focused on the drift chambers calibration and particle identification with DIRC.

$\beta $-delayed $\gamma $-proton Decay in $^{56}$Zn: Analysis of the Charged-particle Spectrum

A study of the $\beta$ decay of the proton-rich $T_{z}$ = -2 nucleus $^{56}$Zn has been reported in a recent publication. A rare and exotic decay mode, $\beta$-delayed $\gamma$-proton decay, has been observed there for the first time in the $fp$ shell. Here we expand on some of the details of the data analysis, focussing on the charged particle spectrum.

An estimator algorithm for the rotation time of magnetization vector in nuclear magnetic resonance for imaging (NMRI)

The purpose of this paper is to propose a useful method to investigate the rotation time of the magnetization vector in the nuclear magnetic resonance for imaging (NMRI) system. The ninety degrees rotation of the magnetization vector is the first step in order to establish the free induction decay that radiates electromagnetic energy inside the NMRI chamber. The estimator involved in this research is called Luenberger's observer which is a state estimator of a dynamical system. Precision mass measurements of antiprotons in a Penning trap

Utilizing electron cooling, the TRAP collaboration has lowered the energy at which antiprotons can be stored and studied by more than 10 orders of magnitude, starting with 6 MeV particles from LEAR. We have held cryogenic antiprotons a few degrees above absolute zero for two months and the storage lifetime so established, more than 3.4 months is the longest directly measured limit for antiprotons. Measuring their cyclotron frequencies in a precision cylindrical Penning trap, we have shown that the inertial masses of the antiprotons and protons are the same to a fractional accuracy of 4 parts in 108, a 1000-fold improvement over the previous comparisons. The Atomic Cascade in p̄p and Implications for p̄p Annihilations at Rest

Many experiments at LEAR will study the pp interaction at rest via the formation of an atomic bound system of p and p (protonium). Protonium is formed in a highly excited state when the antiproton has been stopped in a target containing gaseous or liquid hydrogen and after it has been captured by a H2 molecule. The subsequent deexcitation process ends with the annihilation of the pp atom from an atomic s-, p- or d-state. Antiproton-proton annihilation at rest in H2 gas into π+ π− π0

1990

Antiproton-proton annihilation at rest into π+ π− π0 has been studied by stopping antiprotons from LEAR in a H2 gas target at normal temperature and pressure. The reaction is observed in coincidence withL X-rays which are emitted in the cascade of\(\bar pp\) atoms. The X-rays populate one of the angular momentumL=1 states of a\(\bar pp\) atom which then annihilates. A spinparity analysis of the π+ π− π0 Dalitz plot gives contributions from the threeP states from which annihilation into three pions is allowed. Polarization analysis of $\bar{p}$ produced in pA collisions

A quite simple procedure for the generation of a polarized antiproton beam could be worked out if antiprotons are produced with some polarization. In order to investigate this possibility measurements of the polarization of produced antiprotons have been started at a CERN/PS test beam. The polarization will be determined from the asymmetry of the elastic antiproton scattering at a liquid hydrogen target in the CNI region for which the analyzing power is well known. The data are under analysis and an additional measurement is done in 2018. Details on the experiment and the ongoing data analysis will be given.

Status of the analysis for the search of polarization in the antiproton production process
