High-resolution studies of beta-delayed proton emitters at IGISOL facility

1998

Beta-decays of23Al and41Ti have been studied by applying ion guide techniques, gamma detection and a gas-Si telescope for charged-particle detection. The experimental beta-decay strength of41Ti was found to be quenched by a factor ofq2 = 0.64 compared to our shell model calculations below 8 MeV excitation energy in41Sc. This result is in line with the generally accepted value ofq = 0.77. The isobaric analogue state of the41Ti ground state was measured to contain 10(8)% isospin impurity. This relatively high value could be well reproduced by the shell model calculation in thesdfp space. Gamma-decay of theT = 3/2 isobaric analogue state in23Mg was observed together with its decay by proton em…

PROTONIUM: The Mainz Cascade Model

1990

Recent experiments at LEAR have studied extensively the properties of antiprotonic hydrogen, often also called protonium.

Odd couple decays

2006

The decay of proton-rich nuclei by the emission of a single proton has been known about for some time, and is well understood. The latest observation of two-proton emission, however, will provoke some head-scratching.

Total cross section measurement for the three double pion photoproduction channels on the proton

1995

Abstract The total cross sections for the three γp → Nππ reactions have been measured for photon energies from 400 to 800 MeV. The γ p → p π 0 π 0 and γ p → n π + π 0 cross sections have never been measured before while the γ p → p π + π − results are much improved compared to earlier data. These measurements were performed with the large acceptance hadronic detector DAPHNE, at the tagged photon beam facility of the MAMI microtron in Mainz.

Spin asymmetriesA1of the proton and the deuteron in the lowxand lowQ2region from polarized high energy muon scattering

1999

We present the results of the spin asymmetries (Formula presented) of the proton and the deuteron in the kinematic region extending down to (Formula presented) and (Formula presented) The data were taken with a dedicated low x trigger, which required hadron detection in addition to the scattered muon, so as to reduce the background at low x. The results complement our previous measurements and the two sets are consistent in the overlap region. No significant spin effects are found in the newly explored region. © 1999 The American Physical Society.

Nuclear levels in proton-unboundI109: Relative single-particle energies beyond the proton drip line

2007

A level scheme has been constructed for the proton-unbound, T-z=3/2 nuclide I-109(53)56 following a recoil-decay-tagging experiment using the Ni-58(Fe-54, p2n gamma) reaction at a beam energy of 19 ...

First observations of Pontecorvo reactions with a recoiling neutron

1995

We report the first observations of Pontecorvo reactions of the type ¯pd →Xn. We fully reconstruct the outgoing meson and, for antiprotons stopped in liquid deuterium, we measure: BR(¯pd→π0)=(7.03±0.72)×10−6, BR(¯pd→ηn)=(3.19+0.48)×10−6, BR(¯pd→ωn)=(22.8+4.1)×10−6, BR(¯pd→η′n)14×10−6 (at 95% confidence level). Assuming charge independence, our result for¯ pd→π0n is compatible with measurements of the only other observed Pontecorvo reaction ¯pd → π−p. The experimental ratios between the above branching ratios are in fair agreement with both the statistical model and dynamical two-step models (assumingN¯ N annihilation into two mesons, with subsequent absorption of one meson on the remaining …

The tagging detector of the NA48 experiment

1997

First test results are reported from the NA48 K s tagging system. The system consists of two subdetectors. One samples the passing time of each proton which will hit the K s target ( tagging detector ), the other one measures the event time of a charged Kaon decay ( hodoscope for charged decays ). The tagging detector was read out with a FADC system operating with a sampling frequency of 480MHz. A time resolution of 182ps and resolving of double pulses down to 4ns could be achieved.
