Measurement of the production cross section of jets in association with a Z boson in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector
2013
Measurements of the production of jets of particles in association with a Z boson in pp collisions at s√ = 7 TeV are presented, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb[superscript −1] collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Inclusive and differential jet cross sections in Z events, with Z decaying into electron or muon pairs, are measured for jets with transverse momentum p [subscript T] > 30 GeV and rapidity |y| < 4.4. The results are compared to next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations, and to predictions from different Monte Carlo generators based on leading-order and next-to-leading-order matrix elements supplemented by parton sh…
Development of a MeV ion beam lithography system in Jyväskylä
2007
A lithographic facility for writing patterns with ion beams from cyclotron beams is under development for the Jyväskylä cyclotron. Instead of focusing and deflecting the beam with electrostatic and magnetic fields a different approach is used. Here a small rectangular beam spot is defined by the shadow of a computer-controlled variable aperture in close proximity to the sample. This allows parallel exposure of rectangular pattern elements of 5–500 μm side with protons up to 6 MeV and heavy ions (20Ne, 85Kr) up to few 100 MeV. Here we present a short overview of the system under construction and development of the aperture design, which is a critical aspect for all ion beam lithography syste…
Flux of protons released by wild type and ferritin over-expressor tobacco plants : effect of phosphorus and iron nutrition
2003
Abstract Tobacco ( Nicotiana tabacum ) plants over-expressing the iron storage protein ferritin, either in the cytoplasm or in the plastids, were grown under various P and Fe conditions. The crossed effects of both the genotypes and the environmental conditions on iron and chlorophyll concentrations in leaves, ferric reductase (EC 1.6.99.13) and plasmalemma H + -ATPase (EC 3.6.3.6) activities in roots, and fluxes of H + released by roots were determined. The increase in leaf Fe concentration observed in plants over-expressing ferritin was accompanied by an increase in root ferric reductase and H + -ATPase activities. Iron deficient conditions induced a decrease in Fe and chlorophyll concent…
Measurement of the Proton-Air Cross Section ats=57 TeVwith the Pierre Auger Observatory
2012
We report a measurement of the proton-air cross section for particle production at the center-of-mass energy per nucleon of 57 TeV. This is derived from the distribution of the depths of shower maxima observed with the Pierre Auger Observatory: systematic uncertainties are studied in detail. Analyzing the tail of the distribution of the shower maxima, a proton-air cross section of [505 +/- 22(stat)(-36)(+28)(syst)] mb is found.
A NEW PLUNGER DEVICE FOR INVESTIGATING THE EFFECTS OF DEFORMATION ON PROTON EMISSION RATES VIA LIFETIME MEASUREMENTS
2013
A new plunger device has been designed and built to measure the lifetimes of unbound states in exotic nuclei beyond the proton drip-line. The device is designed to work in both vacuum and dilute-gas environments made possible through the introduction of a lowvoltage piezoelectric motors. The differential plunger for unbound nuclear states, DPUNS, will be used in conjunction with the gas-filled separator RITU and the vacuum separator MARA at the accelerator laboratory of the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland, to measure the lifetimes of excited states with low population cross-sections. This is achieved by eliminating the need for a carbon foil to isolate the helium gas of RITU from the beam …
Finely tuned nickel complexes as highly active catalysts affording branched polyethylene of high molecular weight: 1-(2,6-Dibenzhydryl-4- methoxyphen…
2018
Abstract A series of unsymmetrical 1,2-bis(imino)acenaphthenenickel(II) halides containing N-2,6-dibenzhydryl-4-methoxyphenyl – a single bulky group with adjusted electron donating properties – has been synthesized and characterized. These compounds adopt distorted tetrahedral geometry and their 1H NMR spectra show the paramagnetically shifted peaks. On activation with a low amount of Et2AlCl or ethylaluminum sesquichloride (EASC), these nickel complexes display high activity in ethylene polymerization, yielding the polyethylene of high molecular weight. They are also stable at elevated temperature; superb activity of 2.51 × 106 g of PE (mol of Ni)−1 h−1 can be attained at 90 °C. The result…
Polymerization of Triazolinediones withtrans-3,3-Dichloro-1-phenyl-1-propene
1997
The reaction of 4-phenyl-1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-dione (PhTD) (2) with trans-3,3-dichloro-1-phenyl-1-propene (4) was investigated at room and reflux temperatures in methylene chloride solution. Although the reaction is slow, it gives quantitative yield. This reaction leads to the formation of two 2:1 adducts via double Diels–Alder and Diels–Alder-Ene reactions in a ratio of about 1: 7. The major product was isolated by means of fractional crystallization as a pure compound and was characterized by infra-red (IR), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), 13C NMR, mass spectra and elemental analysis. The structure of the minor product was determined by IR and 1H NMR. These compounds were used as mod…
Ring-opening polymerization of lactides using heterobimetallic yttrocene complexes
1999
Structurally characterized, chiral heterobimetallic yttrocene derivatives Li[Y(η 5 :η 1 -C 5 R 4 Si-Me 2 NCH 2 CH 2 OMe) 2 ] (R = Me, H) have been shown to be active in the controlled ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide to give poly(L-lactide)s with high molecular weights and moderately narrow molecular weight distributions (M w /M n < 1.50). Both transesterification and racemization appear to be less prominent. 'H NMR spectroscopic tetrad analysis of copolymers prepared using a mixture of L- and D-lactide demonstrates the absence of any preference for one enantiomer during the polymerization.
Influence of water, temperature and sucrose on dynamics in glassy starch-based products studied by low field 1H NMR
2009
Abstract In this study, the influence of both water content and temperature on the mobility of glassy starch-based matrices (starch alone or mixed with sucrose at the ratio 0% to 20% db) were studied using time domain 1 H NMR. The 2nd moment M 2 , and transversal relaxation time T 2 ∗ were used to study the molecular mobility of the rigid and mobile fraction of the NMR signal, respectively. The molecular mobility of the protons constituting the samples increased with water content (up to 13% wb) at all temperatures. For a given water content, both rigid and mobile protons exhibited a lower mobility in the presence of sucrose. When mobility characteristic parameters, M 2 second moment values…
