Measurement of differential Z/γ∗+jet+X cross sections in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

2008

We present new measurements of differential cross sections for Z/gamma*(->mumu)+jet+X production in a 1 fb-1 data sample collected with the D0 detector in proton anti-proton collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV. Results include the first measurements differential in the Z/gamma* transverse momentum and rapidity, as well as new measurements differential in the leading jet transverse momentum and rapidity. Next-to-leading order perturbative QCD predictions are compared to the measurements, and reasonable agreement is observed, except in the region of low Z/gamma* transverse momentum. Predictions from two event generators based on matrix elements and parton showers, and one pure parton shower event …

Measurement of the differential cross-sections of inclusive, prompt and non-prompt J/ψ production in proton–proton collisions at s=7 TeV

2011

The inclusive J/psi production cross-section and fraction of J/psi mesons produced in B-hadron decays are measured in proton proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, as a function of the transverse momentum and rapidity of the J/psi, using 2.3 pb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The cross-section is measured from a minimum P-T of 1 GeV to a maximum of 70 GeV and for rapidities within vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.4 giving the widest reach of any measurement of J/psi production to date. The differential production cross-sections of prompt and non-prompt J/psi are separately determined and are compared to Colour Singlet NNLO*, Colour Evaporation Model, and FONLL …

Nuclear PDFs in the beginning of the LHC era

2014

The status of the global fits of nuclear parton distributions (nPDFs) is reviewed. In addition to comparing the contemporary analyses of nPDFs, difficulties and controversies posed by the neutrino-nucleus deeply inelastic scattering data is overviewed. At the end, the first dijet data from the LHC proton+lead collisions is briefly discussed.

The Proton Spin in the Chiral Bag Model : Casimir Contribution and Cheshire Cat Principle

1998

The flavor singlet axial charge has been a source of study in the last years due to its relation to the so called {\it Proton Spin Problem}. The relevant flavor singlet axial current is anomalous, i.e., its divergence contains a piece which is the celebrated $U_A(1)$ anomaly. This anomaly is intimately associated with the $\eta^\prime$ meson, which gets its mass from it. When the gauge degrees of freedom of QCD are confined within a volume as is presently understood, the $U_A(1)$ anomaly is known to induce color anomaly leading to "leakage" of the color out of the confined volume (or bag). For consistency of the theory, this anomaly should be canceled by a boundary term. This ``color bounda…

New results on the spin structure function g1 of the proton and the deuteron from SMC

1998

Abstract New results from a measurement of the spin-dependent structure function g 1 p by the SMC are presented. A next-to-leading order QCD analysis of all published data is used to compute g 1 p at a fixed Q 2 of 10 GeV 2 . Two methods for the extrapolation towards x = 0 to determine the first moment are discussed. In both cases the violation of the Ellis-Jaffe sum rule is confirmed. Using the deuteron data in addition the Bjorken sum rule is tested.

Simultaneous extraction of fragmentation functions of light charged hadrons with mass corrections

2021

Achieving the highest possible precision for theoretical predictions at the present and future high-energy lepton and hadron colliders requires a precise determination of fragmentation functions (FFs) of light and heavy charged hadrons from a global QCD analysis with great accuracy. We describe a simultaneous determination of unpolarized FFs of charged pions, charged kaons and protons/antiprotons from single-inclusive hadron production in electron-positron annihilation (SIA) data at next-to-leading order and next-to-next-to-leading order accuracy in perturbative QCD. A new set of FFs, called {\tt SGKS20}, is presented. We include data for identified light charged hadrons ($\pi^\pm, K^\pm$ a…

Bounds on rare decays of η and η′ mesons from the neutron EDM

2019

We provide model-independent bounds on the rates of rare decays $\ensuremath{\eta}({\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}})\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi}$ based on experimental limits on the neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM). Starting from phenomenological $\ensuremath{\eta}({\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}})\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi}$ couplings, the nEDM arises at the two-loop level. The leading-order relativistic chiral perturbation theory calculation with the minimal photon coupling to charged pions and a proton inside the loops leads to a finite, counterterm-free result. This is an improvement upon previous estimates which used approximations in evalu…

Heavy-flavour production in the SACOT-mT scheme

2019

The hadroproduction of heavy-flavoured mesons has recently attracted a growing interest e.g. within the people involved in global analysis of proton and nuclear parton distribution functions, saturation physics, and physics of cosmic rays. In particular, the D- and B-meson measurements of LHCb at forward direction are sensitive to gluon dynamics at small $x$ and are one of the few perturbative small-$x$ probes before the next generation deep-inelastic-scattering experiments. In this talk, we will concentrate on the collinear-factorization approach to inclusive D-meson production and describe a novel implementation --- SACOT-$m_{\rm T}$ --- of the general-mass variable flavour number scheme …

Feasibility study for the measurement of πN transition distribution amplitudes at P¯ANDA in p¯p→J/ψπ0

2017

The exclusive charmonium production process in (P) over barp annihilation with an associated pi 0 meson (p) over barp -> J/psi pi(0) is studied in the framework of QCD collinear factorization. The feasibility of measuring this reaction through the J/psi -> e(+) e(-) decay channel with the AntiProton ANnihilation at DArmstadt ((P) over bar ANDA) experiment is investigated. Simulations on signal reconstruction efficiency as well as the background rejection from various sources including the (P) over barp -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) and (p) over barp -> J/psi pi(0)pi(0) reactions are performed with PANDAROOT, the simulation and analysis software framework of the (P) over bar ANDA experiment. It is show…
