Radiative muon capture on 12C and 16O

Abstract We study exclusive radiative muon capture on 12 C(g.s.) leading to 12 B(g.s.), and on 16 O(g.s.) leading to 16 N(0 − , 120 keV). Our investigation, which is based on impulse approximation, puts special emphasis on elementary particle aspects of radiative capture, such as tests of magnitude and momentum transfer dependence of the induced pseudoscalar, and possible contributions of axial currents of second kind (weak electricity). We calculate several correlation observables which are sensitive to the nucleonic currents but depend very little on the structure of the nuclear initial and final states. Photoproduction of delta and Roper resonances in the cloudy bag model.

The photoproduction of delta and Roper resonances has been calculated within the framework of the cloudy bag model. Two alternative formulations, the original pseudoscalar surface coupling and the pseudovector volume coupling of pions, have been used, and the results are compared. The helicity amplitudes are in fair agreement with experimental data, the prediction for the small ${E}_{1+}$/${M}_{1+}$ ratio for delta production is -1.8% for a bag radius of 1 fm and pseudovector coupling.
Doppler-broadening of gamma rays following muon capture: search for scalar coupling

Abstract A precision measurement of the 277 keV γ ray produced by capturing muons in gaseous oxygen was performed using high-resolution HPGe detectors. The Doppler-broadened shape of this line is sensitive to the possible admixture into muon capture of genuine scalar interaction. This experiment complements, in the muon sector, in principle, similar ones undertaken recently in nuclear β decay. Using a procedure discussed in earlier papers, a fit to the experimental line-shape allowed us to obtain for the recoil–gamma correlation coefficient the value of a 1 2 =0.096±0.041 (95% CL). Toward (finally!) ruling out Z and Higgs mediated dark matter models

In recent years, direct detection, indirect detection, and collider experiments have placed increasingly stringent constraints on particle dark matter, exploring much of the parameter space associated with the WIMP paradigm. In this paper, we focus on the subset of WIMP models in which the dark matter annihilates in the early universe through couplings to either the Standard Model $Z$ or the Standard Model Higgs boson. Considering fermionic, scalar, and vector dark matter candidates within a model-independent context, we find that the overwhelming majority of these dark matter candidates are already ruled out by existing experiments. Effective Majorana mass matrix from tau and pseudoscalar meson lepton number violating decays

An observation of any lepton number violating process will undoubtedly point towards the existence of new physics and indirectly to the clear Majorana nature of the exchanged fermion. In this work, we explore the potential of a minimal extension of the Standard Model via heavy sterile fermions with masses in the $[ 0.1 - 10]$ GeV range concerning an extensive array of "neutrinoless" meson and tau decay processes. We assume that the Majorana neutrinos are produced on-shell, and focus on three-body decays. Photons, Photon Jets and Dark Photons at 750 GeV and Beyond

In new physics searches involving photons at the LHC, one challenge is to distinguish scenarios with isolated photons from models leading to "photon jets". For instance, in the context of the 750 GeV diphoton excess, it was pointed out that a true diphoton resonance $S \to \gamma\gamma$ can be mimicked by a process of the form $p p \to S \to a a \to 4\gamma$, where $S$ is a new scalar with a mass of 750 GeV and $a$ is a light pseudoscalar decaying to two collinear photons. Photon jets can be distinguished from isolated photons by exploiting the fact that a large fraction of photons convert to an $e^+e^-$ pair inside the inner detector. We discuss the consequences of the approximate conservation of the vector and axial currents for the hadronic matrix elements appearing in beta decay if non-standard interactions are present. In particular the isovector (pseudo)scalar charge g_S(P) of the nucleon can be related to the difference (sum) of the nucleon masses in the absence of electromagnetic effects. Using recent determinations of these quantities from phenomenological and lattice QCD studies we obtain the accurate values g_S=1.02(11) and g_P=349(9) in the MS-bar scheme at mu=2 GeV. τ decay into a pseudoscalar and an axial-vector meson

We study theoretically the decay $\tau^- \to \nu_\tau P^- A$, with $P^-$ a $\pi^-$ or $K^-$ and $A$ an axial-vector resonance $b_1(1235)$, $h_1(1170)$, $h_1(1380)$, $a_1(1260)$, $f_1(1285)$ or any of the two poles of the $K_1(1270)$. The process proceeds through a triangle mechanism where a vector meson pair is first produced from the weak current and then one of the vectors produces two pseudoscalars, one of which reinteracts with the other vector to produce the axial resonance. Measurement of the Pseudoscalar Decay ConstantfDsUsing Charm-Tagged Events ine+e−Collisions ats=10.58 GeV

Using 230.2 fb^(-1) of e+e- annihilation data collected with the BABAR detector at and near the peak of the Y(4S) resonance, 489 +/- 55 events containing the pure leptonic decay D_s^+ --> mu^+ nu_mu have been isolated in charm-tagged events. The ratio of partial widths Gamma(D_s^+ --> mu^+ nu_mu)/Gamma(D_s^+ --> phi pi^+) is measured to be 0.143 +/- 0.018 +/- 0.006 allowing a determination of the pseudoscalar decay constant f_{D_s} = (283 +/- 17 +/- 7 +/- 14) MeV. The errors are statistical, systematic, and from the D_s^+ --> phi pi^+ branching ratio, respectively.
Limiting P-odd interactions of cosmic fields with electrons, protons and neutrons

We propose methods for extracting limits on the strength of P-odd interactions of pseudoscalar and pseudovector cosmic fields with electrons, protons and neutrons. Candidates for such fields are dark matter (including axions) and dark energy, as well as several more exotic sources described by standard-model extensions. Calculations of parity nonconserving amplitudes and atomic electric dipole moments induced by these fields are performed for H, Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Ba+, Tl, Dy, Fr, and Ra+. From these calculations and existing measurements in Dy, Cs and Tl, we constrain the interaction strengths of the parity-violating static pseudovector cosmic field to be 7*10^(-15) GeV with an electron, a…
