2010
This paper proposes an interpretation of Amelie Nothombs novel The Character of Rain (Metaphysique des tubes) from a literary perspective and adopts the theoretical model put forward in the lacanian psychoanalysis. From this point of view we discuss how this autofiction formalizes some of the steps involved in the subjective constitution paying special attention to the notion of desire, and how these are specified, formally and thematically, in the writing strategy the author

“Time Is the Flimsiest Surface.” Affective Distance and the Weight of History in Yiyun Li’s Kinder Than Solitude
This article examines the linkages between personal and political history and their relationship to the experience of time and a ective distance in Yiyun Li’s (b. 1972) novel Kinder an Solitude (2014). The method of analysis is a combination of close reading with a specific focus on affective distance, and a historically contextualizing approach. In this article, the notion of affective distance refers to an individual level psychic and emotional experience of estrangement, loneliness, and temporal and spatial discontinuity. The manifestation of a ective distance in Li’s no…
Huumorin tutkimuksen kesäkoulussa
2011
Elokuussa kokoontui Tartossa, Viron Kirjallisuuden Museossa (Eesti Kirjandusmuu- seum) järjestyksessä jo yhdestoista huumorintutkimuksen kesäkoulu, 11th International Summer School and Symposium on Humour and Laughter: Theory, Research and Applications.
Indirect Sexism in John Grisham’s Sycamore Row (2013): Unveiling Sexual Inequality Through a Gender-Committed Pedagogy in the Translation Classroom
2019
In the ongoing fight for sexual equality, discourse and translation are key mechanisms, that deserve careful scrutiny. This chapter describes a teaching experience within my Legal Translation (English–Spanish) module at the University of Valencia. Students were required to translate some passages from Sycamore Row (2013), a best-selling legal thriller by John Grisham. In class, we analyzed and discussed these passages and compared them with the students’ translations as well as with the 2014commercial Spanish version, entitled La herencia. Sexist and/or patronizing comments are common in this book, disguised under the veil of irony or humour. Thus, John Grisham manages—through humour and ir…

Visualization of Jacques Lacan’s Registers of the Psychoanalytic Field, and Discovery of Metaphor and of Metonymy. Analytical Case Study of Edgar All…
2017
International audience; We start with a description of Lacan’s work that we then take into our analytics methodology. In a first investigation, a Lacan-motivated template of the Poe story is fitted to the data. A segmentation of the storyline is used in order to map out the diachrony. Based on this, it will be shown how synchronous aspects, potentially related to Lacanian registers, can be sought. This demonstrates the effectiveness of an approach based on a model template of the storyline narrative. In a second and more comprehensive investigation, we develop an approach for revealing, that is, uncovering, Lacanian register relationships. Objectives of this work include the wide and genera…
Dislocated Temporalities : Immigration, Identity, and Sexuality in Najat El Hachmi?s «L?últim patriarca»
2018
Recent Catalan criticism has focused on place and space, as well as immigration, but has overlooked temporality. Yet migrations are not only a matter of space (of demographic movements and geographical relocations), but also of time: immigration questions the idea of origins and the possibility of a shared future, and problematizes the rhythms of everyday life. Temporality, in fact, is a key axis in the formation of identities and in cultural conflicts, not just regarding the uses of the past and the projection of societies towards the future, but also in relation to the normative uses of the body. The coexistence of asynchronous temporalities provoked by immigration is a factor in both cul…
Flora Ossette’s ‘feminist visibility’ in her translation of Olive Schreiner’s Woman and Labour
2011
Eric Rohmer, Alain Robbe-Grillet : parcours fantasmatique
2015
In this article, we study the relationship between Alain Robbe-Grillet and Eric Rohmer’s works through the problematic of fantasy. Even though Robbe-Grillet’s films seem to be the opposite extreme of the ones of the director of the « Nouvelle vague », we will see that both authors share notable similarities. Indeed, both Robbe-Grillet and Rohmer focus on the world of dream and fantasy in films in which the notion of reality is questioned. Through the study of figures like the « frivolous girl », we will also focus on the treatment of stereotypes, the figurations of the imaginary without which fantasy may not exist. Eventually, we will treat the problem (thematically as well as aesthetically…
