Behaviour-change interventions in primary care: Influence on nutrition and on the metabolic syndrome definers

2011

The purpose of this paper was to examine whether interventions influenced patients' (i) consumption of fish; whole grain products; fruits and vegetables; (ii) overall nutrition, that is, the three former as an index; and (iii) clinical outcomes in terms of metabolic syndrome definers. A questionnaire was delivered to adult patients entering the nine health centres on November 2006 (n = 1211). Digital health interventions for children with ADHD

2020

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a childhood-onset disorder characterised by a persistent pattern of symptoms of inappropriate and impaired inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity, with difficulties often continuing into adulthood.1 It is estimated to affect 37·1 million children and young people (aged ≤20 years) worldwide.2 Although multiple ADHD treatments are available and widely used (eg, evidence-based behaviour therapy, medications, or a combination of both),3,4 their effectiveness has been questioned because they might not fully address the needs of many children with ADHD. Barriers to evidence-based treatment for ADHD include misconceptions and stigma, time, and…

Role of the hospital pharmacist in an Italian antimicrobial stewardship programme

2020

The inappropriate use of antimicrobial agents is contributing to an increasing phenomenon of bacterial resistance. For this reason, there is a growing interest in ‘antimicrobial stewardship’, a series of coordinated and multidisciplinary interventions aimed to promote the safe and appropriate use of antimicrobials in which the pharmacist’s contribution is necessary for the optimal choice of drug, dose, duration of therapy and the implementation of cost containment strategies. AIM OF THE STUDY: We wanted to create a reference model and a specific training manual on antibiotic stewardship to introduce the role of the department pharmacist with specific infection disease skills in the Italian …

Free Fruit for School Children to Improve Food Quality

2013

A diet high in fruits and vegetables (FV) is inversely related to several chronic diseases [1], and an increased intake would improve diet quality and global public health [2]. In Norway, children and adolescents consume only about half of the national five-a-day recommendation [3]. As food preferences and habits established in childhood to a large extent tend to be maintained into adulthood [4, 5], and in order to achieve maximum prevention potential, it is important to get children to eat more FV. It is also important that effective efforts conducted to increase children’s FV intake result in sustained elevated FV intakes, preferably throughout life, in order to have maximum health preven…
