Efficiency in higher education. Empirical study in public universities of Colombia and Spain

2020

Well-Being without Employment? Promoting the Employability of Refugees

2020

There are more than 25 million refugees in the world. Many of them try to reach the Mediterranean in order to enter Europe. Spain is one of the countries that receive refugees and have to integrate them. Many refugees have experienced persecution in their countries, as well as forced migration, rape, diseases, etc. Their integration requires support and coordination from the government, health services, and social agents. The first step in achieving this integration is getting a job, which is currently an important issue. Thus, we aim to analyze the employability of a specific group of refugees in Spain and then develop and implement an intervention program to improve their employability. O…

Methods Face-to-face interview surveys were conducted in 2011 in Taiwan with 876 working-age mothers who had an offspring with intellectual disabilities. The survey included 574 mothers living with their husbands who became our participants. Results Both anova and regression analyses i…

Why do Third Sector Employees Intend to Remain or Leave their Workplace?

2016

Third sector employees have claimed to enjoy high job satisfaction and low turnover intentions because their work is considered intrinsically rewarding. Employees have strong motivation for public service and they consider the organization’s goals as their own. This makes work meaningful and thus reduces turnover intentions. Changes in the third sector institutional environment, however, have intensified the working environment. This probably undermines job quality and thus increases turnover intentions. The analysis conducted among Finnish third sector employees showed that third sector employees report more turnover intentions than their counterparts in the public or private sector. This …

Translating the Global Script of the Sustainable University: The Case of the University of Oslo

2015

In this chapter, Translating the Global Script of the Sustainable University: The Case of the University of Oslo, Romulo Pinheiro, Maryam Faghihimani and Jarle Trondal discuss the green strategy of University of Oslo. This chapter, which is conceptually based on neo-institutional theory, approaches the notion of the ‘sustainable organisation’ as a global, legitimate script, i.e. a dominant hegemonic idea which, once adopted and consequently adapted locally, is likely to enhance both internal and external legitimacy. This analysis is built on the empirical case of the University of Oslo (UiO), that sheds light on the ways in which the notion of a ‘sustainable university’ has been locally ‘tr…

Fortifying the Island at the time of the viceroy Ferrante Gonzaga (1536-1546): sites, master builders and designers, clients

2015

Abstract The ten-year government of Ferrante Gonzaga marks a crucial time in the process of modernization of fortifications on the largest island of the Western Mediterranean. Even if the cornerstones of the strategy pursued and the projects undertaken to realize an adequate defense system have already been highlighted by previous studies, and it is well-known how much the viceroy himself and the royal engineer Antonio Ferramolino participated in resolving the longstanding problem, new interesting data emerge from research on the archival collections of Tribunale del Real Patrimonio, kept in the State Archive of Palermo. Using this mostly unpublished documentation, the paper focus on buildi…
