The oxidative stress results from a change in the physiological balance between oxidant and antioxidant species. This type of stress is a chemical change in the redox state of cells. The increased production of reactive species is related to an excessive metabolic activation, for example, from an intense physical exercise or an excessive caloric intake (1). In physiological conditions, muscle fibers are provided with an antioxidant system able to keep under control the excessive production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS).

Epidemiology of malignant melanoma in the province of Palermo (2003-2005)

<p><strong>Background</strong>: The incidence of melanoma has steadily increased worldwide and shows geographical variability according to latitude. The aim of this study was to describe the incidence of cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) cases in the Province of Palermo during the period 2003-2005.</p><p><strong>Methods</strong>: 231 incident cases of CMM, registered by the Cancer Registry of Palermo, were analysed. Survey of Italian Pediatricians on awareness, experiences and beliefs regarding direct-to-consumer genetic testing in minors

 Background: Our study wanted to assess Italian pediatricians’ awareness, experience and beliefs regarding directto-consumer (DTC) genetic tests (GT) in minors, with a focus on those for predisposition to complex disease, lyfestyle, athletic ability and other inborn talents.
 Methods: A 28-item questionnaire was administered through the SurveyMonkey® web platform to the 9,086 members of the Italian Society of Pediatrics for which a valid email address was available.
