Aineisto artikkeliin 'Monitoring organizational Article Processing Charges (APCs) using external sources: case Turku University Library'

2022

Aineisto koostuu Turun yliopiston ja Turun yliopistollisen sairaalan vertaisarvioitujen julkaisujen kirjoittajamaksutiedoista eli APC-maksutiedoista vuosilta 2017-2108 sekä vertailuaineistosta, joka haettiin ulkoisista lähteistä (Web of Science, Scopus, Unpaywall). Aineiston tarkoitus on mahdollistaa vertailu organisaation sisäisen kirjoittajamaksukirjanpidon ja ulkoisista lähteistä saatavilla olevan kirjoittajamaksuja koskevan informaation välillä. Aineiston analyysin tavoitteena oli selvittää, miten iso osa organisaation maksamista kirjoittajamaksuista sisältyy sisäiseen kirjanpitoon, ja mikä osa jää kirjanpidon ulkopuolelle. The dataset contains analysis of organizational APC monitoring …

Kotimaiset tieteelliset lehdet, rinnakkaistallennus sekä huomioita SHERPA/RoMEOsta

2017

This report examines the actions taken for promoting the green OA in Finnish scholarly journals and their effects in 2016 and 2017. A Finnish-language form for suggesting publisher policies to SHERPA/RoMEO database was developed. It was linked into instructions for applying the government subsidy of scholarly publishing. Finally, a resolution on archiving was negotiated with the copyright organization responsible for distributing remunerations of a national license based article database (Elektra). Due to these actions, the number of announced self-archiving policies rose from 27 to 53. 24 policies were collected via the Finnish form and sent to SHERPA/RoMEO. In this connection, some shorta…

ON SYLOW NORMALIZERS OF FINITE GROUPS

2013

[EN] The paper considers the influence of Sylow normalizers, i.e. normalizers of Sylow subgroups, on the structure of finite groups. In the universe of finite soluble groups it is known that classes of groups with nilpotent Hall subgroups for given sets of primes are exactly the subgroup- closed saturated formations satisfying the following property: a group belongs to the class if and only if its Sylow normalizers do so. The paper analyzes the extension of this research to the universe of all finite groups.

Following the money? : Performance based funding and the changing publication patterns of Finnish academics

2020

Research on how performance-based funding influences the behaviour and performance of academics is limited in Europe. In this study, we investigate the changing publication patterns among Finnish academics associated with the introduction of awarding funding for publications within specific journals in the national performance-based funding model. We find evidence, particularly in the social sciences, and to a lesser extent humanities, that Finnish academics increasingly target international (English-language) publication outlets and lower-tiered journals. We conclude discussing the possible long-term implications of the current funding formula for both Finnish academia and society. peerRev…

Profiles, motives and experiences of authors publishing in predatory journals: OMICS as a case study

2023

International audience; The paper aims to understand the context and drivers of researchers' decision to submit a manuscript to a predatory journal. Using OMICS as a case study and asking authors for their views, the paper presents their profile, motivations and publishing experiences. The methodology is based on a questionnaire sent by email to all authors of articles published in OMICS (+2200). The authors were asked about 1/ the factors that influenced their decision to submit their article, 2/ their publishing predatory journal. At the same time, it reveals some of the strategies used by OMICS to persuade authors to submit their papers. The findings will help to inform institutional pol…

First World War Diaries: Making the Private Public

2020

This article analyses several World War I Diaries written by soldiers on the Front. Starting with the circumstances of publication and their effects on the text, the article addresses the passage of these very private texts into public life, before turning to the role played by the diaries for the soldiers who write them. Studies of the diary as a genre are used to show how war diaries fit into the more general genre. Finally the article turns to the reception of these works, by studying what part literary distance may play for the soldiers keeping a diary, and by arguing that the task of making sense of these texts has been transferred to present-day readers.
