<title>Irradiation effects in lead zirconate thin films</title>

2003

Lead zirconate PbZrO3 (PZ) and PbZr0.53Ti0.47O3 (PZT) sol-gel films with a thickness of up to 1.5 μm were deposited on TiO2/Pt/TiO2/SiO2/Si substrates by spin coating technique and heterostructures of the same composition as well as on Pb0.92La0.08 (Zr0.65Ti0.35)O3 (PLZT-8) (with a thickness of 0.4 μm) were pulse laser deposited (PLD) on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si. Observation of a typical antiferroelectric (AFE) double hysteresis loop in obtained PZ heterostructures at room temperature was attributed to the superior dielectric strength in case of thin film materials. The thermal behavior of dielectric permittivity e of PZ film reveals a maximum near 225°C on heating and 219°C on cooling. The higher res…

Cardiorespiratory fitness in volleyball athletes following a covid-19 infection: A cross-sectional study

2021

Athletes’ lifestyles have been dramatically affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Since COVID-19 primarily affects the respiratory system and to a lesser degree the cardiovascular system, the goal of this study was to examine the effects of COVID-19-caused detraining on cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) of recently recovered volleyball athletes. Sixteen experienced volleyball athletes (age 24 ± 4.5 years) who were recently diagnosed and recovered from a COVID-19 infection volunteered to participate in this study and were tested for CRF and spirometry. Given that participants had only mild symptoms of infection, the primary focus of this study was on the effects of detr…

Wavelet Frames Generated by Spline Based p-Filter Banks

2014

This chapter presents a design scheme to generate tight and so-called semi-tight frames in the space of discrete-time periodic signals. The frames originate from oversampled perfect reconstruction periodic filter banks. The filter banks are derived from discrete-time and discrete periodic splines. Each filter bank comprises one linear phase low-pass filter (in most cases interpolating) and one high-pass filter, whose magnitude response mirrors that of a low-pass filter. In addition, these filter banks comprise a number of band-pass filters. In this chapter, frames generated by four-channel filter banks are briefly outlined (see Chap. 17 in [2] for details) and tight frames generated by six-…

Biorthogonal Wavelet Transforms Originating from Splines

2015

This chapter describes how to design families of biorthogonal wavelet transforms of signals and respective biorthogonal Wavelet bases in the signal space using spline-based prediction filters. Although the designed Wavelets originate from splines, they are not splines themselves. The design and implementation of the biorthogonal Wavelet transforms is done using the Lifting scheme. Most of the filters participating in the expansion of signals over the presented bases have infinite impulse responses and are implemented by recursive filtering whose computational cost is competitive with the FIR filtering cost. Properties of the designed Wavelets, such as symmetry, flat spectra, good time domai…

Quasi-interpolating and Smoothing Local Splines

2015

In this chapter, local quasi-interpolating and smoothing splines are described. Although approximation properties of local spline are similar to properties of the global interpolating and smoothing splines, their design does not require the IIR filtering of the whole data array. The computation of a local spline value at some point utilizes only a few adjacent grid samples. Therefore, local splines can be used for real-time processing of signals and for the design of FIR filter banks generating wavelets and wavelet frames (Chaps. 12 and 14). In the chapter, local splines of different orders are designed and their approximation properties are established which are compared with the propertie…

UV resistance of Bacillus subtilis spores - Involvement of DPA and characterization by photonic microscopy

2022

The aim of this project was to study the UVc resistance of Bacillus subtilis spores. The first part of this project focused on the dipicolinic acid molecule (DPA) which is known to be involved in the UV resistance of spores. However, some points remain unresolved. In particular, it is known that this molecule forms fluorescent photoproducts (DPAp), which were not identified at the beginning of this project. No information concerning the role of these DPAp in UVC resistance was available at that time. During this project, a protocol was established to follow the appearance of these photoproducts directly inside the spore core. A method was also set up to artificially introduce DPAp into the …

Analysis of Transition Metal Oxides based Heterojunction Solar Cells with S-shaped J-V curves

2020

The use of transition metal oxides for the selective carrier contact in the crystalline silicon solar cells technology is rising to interest for the excellent optoelectrical properties of these materials whose implementation, however, can result in lousy performing cells due to an S-shaped electrical characteristic. In this paper, we fabricated solar cells showing S-shaped J-V curve and carried out an analysis of the reasons of such behavior using a model involving the series of a standard cell equivalent circuit with a Schottky junction in order to explain these atypical performances. A good matching between the experimental measurements and the adopted theoretical model was obtained. The …

Towards Laser-Textured Antibacterial Surfaces

2018

AbstractEscherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacterial retention on mirror-polished and ultrashort pulse laser-textured surfaces is quantified with a new approach based on ISO standards for measurement of antibacterial performance. It is shown that both wettability and surface morphology influence antibacterial behavior, with neither superhydrophobicity nor low surface roughness alone sufficient for reducing initial retention of either tested cell type. Surface structures comprising spikes, laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) and nano-pillars are produced with 1030 nm wavelength 350 fs laser pulses of energy 19.1 μJ, 1.01 μJ and 1.46 μJ, respectively. Non-linear systems under impulsive parametric input

1999

In this paper the problem of the response of non-linear systems excited by an impulsive parametric input is treated. For such systems the response exhibits a jump depending on the amplitude of the impulse as well as on the value of the state variables immediately before the impulse occurrence. Recently, the jump prediction has been obtained in a series form. Here the incremental rule for any scalar real valued function is obtained in an analytical form involving the jump of the state variables. It is also shown that the formulation for the jump evaluation is also able to give a new step-by-step integration technique.

Relaxation dynamics in the presence of pulse multiplicative noise sources with different correlation properties

2015

The relaxation dynamics of a system described by a Langevin equation with pulse multiplicative noise sources with different correlation properties is considered. The solution of the corresponding Fokker-Planck equation is derived for Gaussian white noise. Moreover, two pulse processes with regulated periodicity are considered as a noise source: the dead-time-distorted Poisson process and the process with fixed time intervals, which is characterized by an infinite correlation time. We find that the steady state of the system is dependent on the correlation properties of the pulse noise. An increase of the noise correlation causes the decrease of the mean value of the solution at the steady s…
