Prepulse Inhibition of the Startle Reflex as a Predictor of Vulnerability to Develop Locomotor Sensitization to Cocaine

2020

Prepulse inhibition (PPI) of the startle reflex is a measure of sensory-motor synchronization. A deficit in PPI has been observed in psychiatric patients, especially those with schizophrenia and vulnerable subjects, since the neural bases of this disorder are also involved in the regulation of PPI. Recently, we have reported that baseline PPI levels in mice can predict their sensitivity to the conditioned reinforcing effects of cocaine in the conditioned place preference (CPP) paradigm. Mice with a low PPI presented a lower sensitivity to the conditioned rewarding effects of cocaine; however, once they acquired conditioned preference with a higher dose of the drug, a more persistent associa…

Nonlinear Pulse Shaping in Optical Fibres with a Neural Network

2020

We use a supervised machine-learning model based on a neural network to solve the direct and inverse problems relating to the shaping of optical pulses that occurs upon nonlinear propagation in optical fibres.

Novel Three-Phase Multi-Level Inverter with Reduced Components

2019

A new multilevel converter topology is proposed in this paper. Low component count and compact design are the main features of the proposed topology. Furthermore, the proposed converter is a capacitor-, inductor-, and diode-free configuration, allowing reducing the converter footprint, increasing the lifetime and simplifying the control strategy. Further, a comparative study is carried out to highlight the merits of the proposed circuit as compared to existing multilevel topologies. Finally, simulation results for the three-level version using different modulation strategies are presented.

Speech Intelligibility Analysis and Approximation to Room Parameters through the Internet of Things

2021

In recent years, Wireless Acoustic Sensor Networks (WASN) have been widely applied to different acoustic fields in outdoor and indoor environments. Most of these applications are oriented to locate or identify sources and measure specific features of the environment involved. In this paper, we study the application of a WASN for room acoustic measurements. To evaluate the acoustic characteristics, a set of Raspberry Pi 3 (RPi) has been used. One is used to play different acoustic signals and four are used to record at different points in the room simultaneously. The signals are sent wirelessly to a computer connected to a server, where using MATLAB we calculate both the impulse response (IR…

A Novel Symmetrical Boost Modulation Method for qZS-based CHB Inverters

2020

Quasi-Z-source cascaded H-bridge (qZS-CHB) inverters are arising as an innovation in the field of the electrical conversion for PV applications. This type of converters inherit the advantages of multilevel inverters and single-stage configuration. In this context, this paper proposes a novel symmetrical boost modulation strategy for qZS CHB multilevel inverters to increase the performance in terms of voltage stresses and power quality. The novelty lies in the adoption of a different concept to generate the shoot-through states compared to the traditional methods. Simulation analysis in a grid connected application to evaluate the benefits of this boost method is performed in the MATLAB/PLEC…

Introduction: Digital Filters and Filter Banks

2015

A basic operation of spectr is filterin. In this introductory chapter, processing of one- and two-dimensional signals by digital filters and filter banks is outlined. A polyphase implementation of multirate filtering is described. The application of filtering with IIR filters, whose transfer functions are rational, is described. Bases and frames in the signals’ space that are generated by perfect reconstruction filter banks are discussed. The Butterworth filters, which are used in further constructions, are introduced.

Real filter based on Mellin radial harmonics for scale-invariant pattern recognition.

1994

Several theoretical and experimental studies are developed in order to simplify the construction of filters based on Mellin radial harmonics (MRH) for scale-invariant pattern recognition. A real filter based on MRH is designed. The impulse response of the filter is a hermitic function, obtained by a suitable modification of a MRH component. This real filter has the same scale invariance as the conventional complex MRH filters, with the main advantage of its simplicity. Both computer simulations and optical experiments are presented.

Time-resolved imaging of pulse-induced magnetization reversal with a microwave assist field

2015

AbstractThe reversal of the magnetization under the influence of a field pulse has been previously predicted to be an incoherent process with several competing phenomena such as domain wall relaxation, spin wave-mediated instability regions and vortex-core mediated reversal dynamics. However, there has been no study on the direct observation of the switching process with the aid of a microwave signal input. We report a time-resolved imaging study of magnetization reversal in patterned magnetic structures under the influence of a field pulse with microwave assistance. The microwave frequency is varied to demonstrate the effect of resonant microwave-assisted switching. We observe that the swi…

Transport Properties of Co2(Mn, Fe)Si Thin Films

2013

Thin Heusler films with the composition Co2Mn1−x Fe x Si were grown by both sputter and pulsed laser deposition. The samples show a high degree of structural order and very good magnetic properties. The availability of thin film samples on dielectric substrates allowed the systematic investigation of their electronic properties by transport experiments. The normal Hall effect shows a transition from a hole-like charge transport in Co2MnSi to an electron-like transport in Co2FeSi. This is in agreement with calculations, which predict that the substitution of Mn by Fe leads to a band filling and a shift of the Fermi energy. Furthermore, the behavior of the anomalous Hall effect was studied. I…

Ultrafast Metamorphosis of a Complex Charge Density Wave in Tantalumdiselenite

2016

Using ultrafast electron diffraction, we record the transformation between a nearly-commensurate and an incommensurate charge-density-wave in 1T-TaS2, which takes place orders of magnitude faster than previously observed for commensurate-to-incommensurate transitions.
