Photocatalysis of rhodamine B and methyl orange degradation under solar light on ZnO and Cu2O thin films

2020

We report the photocatalytic properties of ZnO and Cu2O thin films deposited on glass substrates at room temperature by DC sputtering and pulsed laser deposition. The photoactivity of the films was investigated through the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) and methyl orange (MO) under solar light. In order to select the most suitable film of ZnO for the of RhB and MO degradation, the relationship between the characteristics (e.g. energy levels and defects concentration) of ZnO films and their effectiveness in the photocatalytic yield of RhB and MO been studied, where several films were deposited by using different oxygen partial pressures (PO2: 0.05–1.3 mbar), while Cu2O films were grown und…

The pulsed neutron beam EDM experiment

2018

International audience; We report on the Beam EDM experiment, which aims to employ a pulsed cold neutron beam to search for an electric dipole moment instead of the established use of storable ultracold neutrons. We present a brief overview of the basic measurement concept and the current status of our proof-of-principle Ramsey apparatus.

ZnO doped with a few per cent (<10%) of magnetic ions such as Co exhibit room temperature (RT) ferromagnetism, transforming it into a very promising candidate for future spin electronic applications. We present x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) spectroscopy, which has been used in total electron yield, total fluorescence yield, and reflection mode to investigate the origin of ferromagnetism in such diluted magnetic semiconductor materials in a surface, bulk and interface sensitive way, respectively. We investigated three different types of samples: ZnO doped with 5% Co, artificially layered films, and layered films with additional co-doping of 10% Li. These films are prepared by puls…

Exploiting Clock Transitions for the chemical design of resilient molecular spin qubits

2021

Molecular spin qubits are chemical nanoobjects with promising applications that are so far hampered by the rapid loss of quantum information, a process known as decoherence. A strategy to improve this situation involves employing so-called Clock Transitions (CTs), which arise at anticrossings between spin energy levels. At CTs, the spin states are protected from magnetic noise and present an enhanced quantum coherence. Unfortunately, these optimal points are intrinsically hard to control since their transition energy cannot be tuned by an external magnetic field; moreover, their resilience towards geometric distortions has not yet been analyzed. Here we employ a python-based computational t…

Rogue waves among noiselike-pulse laser emission: An experimental investigation

2014

We investigate experimental conditions in a fiber ring laser where noiselike-pulse emission fulfills the rogue wave criteria, highlighting the influence of the chromatic dispersion sign as well as the pivotal role of the pulse measurement design. While pulse-energy rogue waves are exclusively detected in the anomalous dispersion regime, spectral rogue waves are recorded for both positive and negative dispersions. To reveal $\mathsf{L}\text{-shaped}$ statistical series compatible with the generation of spectral rogue wave events, the dispersive Fourier-transform method is implemented to study the shot-to-shot spectral fluctuations of the laser output.

Direct Identification of Dilute Surface Spins on Al2O3 : Origin of Flux Noise in Quantum Circuits

2017

An on-chip electron spin resonance technique is applied to reveal the nature and origin of surface spins on Al2O3. We measure a spin density of 2.2×1017 spins/m2, attributed to physisorbed atomic hydrogen and S=1/2 electron spin states on the surface. This is direct evidence for the nature of spins responsible for flux noise in quantum circuits, which has been an issue of interest for several decades. Our findings open up a new approach to the identification and controlled reduction of paramagnetic sources of noise and decoherence in superconducting quantum devices.

Dosimetry characteristics of the Plus and 12i Gammamed PDR 192Ir sources.

2001

In this study a complete set of dosimetric data for the Plus and 12i Gammamed PDR (pulsed dose rate) 192 Ir sources is presented. These data have been calculated using the Monte Carlo simulation code GEANT3. Absolute dose rate distributions in water around these sources were calculated and are presented in form of conventional two dimensional (2D) Cartesian look-up tables. All dosimetric quantities recommended by the AAPM Task Group 43 report have been also calculated. These quantities are dose rate constant, radial dose function, anisotropy function and anisotropy factor. The dose rate distribution of the 12i source was compared with the corresponding data for the microselectron PDR source…

High Accuracy Modelling of Hybrid Power Supplies

2011

This chapter proposes a modelling approach based on the PSIM/Simulink co-simulation toolbox for hybrid power supplies, featuring high accuracy. Hybrid source performances are fully tested during behavioural simulations. The importance of high-accuracy modelling is investigated and modelling guidelines for both power sources and load are given for further applications. The Simulink model is analyzed and the efficiency of the proposed approach is verified by the comparison between simulation and experimental results. In the last few years, hybrid power supplies are investigated for a wide variety of application areas: two primary sources are coupled to take advantages of both, overcoming thei…

Refolding of the integral membrane protein light-harvesting complex II monitored by pulse EPR

2009

The major light-harvesting chlorophyll a / b complex (LHCII) of the photosynthetic apparatus in plants self-organizes in vitro. The recombinant apoprotein, denatured in dodecyl sulfate, spontaneously folds when it is mixed with its pigments, chlorophylls, and carotenoids in detergent solution, and assembles into structurally authentic LHCII in the course of several minutes. Pulse EPR techniques, specifically double-electron-electron resonance (DEER), have been used to analyze protein folding during this process. Pairs of nitroxide labels were introduced site-specifically into recombinant LHCII and shown not to affect the stability and function of the pigment-protein complex. Interspin dist…
