CitySearcher: A City Search Engine For Interests

2017

We introduce CitySearcher, a vertical search engine that searches for cities when queried for an interest. Generally in search engines, utilization of semantics between words is favorable for performance improvement. Even though ambiguous query words have multiple semantic meanings, search engines can return diversified results to satisfy different users' information needs. But for CitySearcher, mismatched semantic relationships can lead to extremely unsatisfactory results. For example, the city Sale would incorrectly rank high for the interest shopping because of semantic interpretations of the words. Thus in our system, the main challenge is to eliminate the mismatched semantic relationsh…

Impact of conventional and non-conventional processing on prickly pear ( Opuntia spp.) and their derived products: From preservation of beverages to …

2017

Abstract Background In recent years, both food researchers and food industry have shown growing interest in Opuntia fruits, as they constitute a good source of phytochemicals such as phenolics, vitamin C, vitamin E, polysaccharides and betalains. Many of these compounds have shown antioxidant, anti-cancer, antiatherosclerotic and/or hepatoprotective properties. Moreover, the fruit is also a source of dietary fibers, which promote bowel transit, thus preventing constipation. Scope and approach Due to these properties, Opuntia fruits are considered as functional products offering numerous health benefits when are consumed as fresh or processed product. However, these compounds can lose their …

Creating sanctioning norms in the lab: the influence of descriptive norms in third-party punishment

2019

ABSTRACTThird-party punishment is a form of peer-to-peer sanctioning that is influenced by descriptive norms. The present study aims to investigate how aggregate peer punishment and the presence of...

Evaluation of new functional pasta using TOPSIS methodology

2017

Nowadays several studies are focused on the introduction of Opuntia in frequently consumed foods, such as pasta and bakery products. Food products containing Opuntia are in fact able to reduce body weight and plasma LDL cholesterol, lipids and glucose. Foods, that may provide health and wellness benefits, are known as "functional foods". The aim of this paper is the evaluation of a new functional pasta comprising Opuntia able to guarantee health benefits without altering the organoleptic properties of the final product. For this purpose, a set of samples, based on different concentration of Opuntia solution and process parameters, was prepared for the production of short and long pasta. The…

Chaotic behavior in deformable models: the double-well doubly periodic oscillators

2001

Abstract The motion of a particle in a one-dimensional perturbed double-well doubly periodic potential is investigated analytically and numerically. A simple physical model for calculating analytically the Melnikov function is proposed. The onset of chaos is studied through an analysis of the phase space, a construction of the bifurcation diagram and a computation of the Lyapunov exponent. The parameter regions of chaotic behavior predicted by the theoretical analysis agree very well with numerical simulations.

Chaotic behaviour in deformable models: the asymmetric doubly periodic oscillators

2002

Abstract The motion of a particle in a one-dimensional perturbed asymmetric doubly periodic (ASDP) potential is investigated analytically and numerically. A simple physical model for calculating analytically the Melnikov function is proposed. The onset of chaos is studied through an analysis of the phase space, a construction of the bifurcation diagram and a computation of the Lyapunov exponent. Theory predicts the regions of chaotic behaviour of orbits in a good agreement with computer calculations.

Dynamical environments of relativistic binaries: The phenomenon of resonance shifting

2019

In this article, we explore both numerically and analytically how the dynamical environments of mildly relativistic binaries evolve with increasing the general relativity factor $\gamma$ (the normalized inverse of the binary size measured in the units of the gravitational radius corresponding to the total mass of the system). Analytically, we reveal a phenomenon of the relativistic shifting of mean-motion resonances: on increasing $\gamma$, the resonances between the test particle and the central binary shift, due to the relativistic variation of the mean motions of the primary and secondary binaries and the relativistic advance of the tertiary's pericenter. To exhibit the circumbinary dyna…
