Non-archimedean hyperbolicity and applications

2018

Inspired by the work of Cherry, we introduce and study a new notion of Brody hyperbolicity for rigid analytic varieties over a non-archimedean field $K$ of characteristic zero. We use this notion of hyperbolicity to show the following algebraic statement: if a projective variety admits a non-constant morphism from an abelian variety, then so does any specialization of it. As an application of this result, we show that the moduli space of abelian varieties is $K$-analytically Brody hyperbolic in equal characteristic zero. These two results are predicted by the Green-Griffiths-Lang conjecture on hyperbolic varieties and its natural analogues for non-archimedean hyperbolicity. Finally, we use …

Picard and the Italian Mathematicians: The History of Three Prix Bordin

2016

It is usually said that in the transition period between 19th and 20th centuries, French scholars (mainly Picard and Humbert) as well as Italian scholars (mainly Castelnuovo, Enriques and Severi) were interested in the study of algebraic surfaces, though using different methods.

Darstellung von Hyperebenen in verallgemeinerten affinen Räumen durch Moduln

1994

The starting point of this article is a generalized concept of affine space which includes all affine spaces over unitary modules. Our main result is a representation theorem for hyperplanes of affine spaces: Every hyperplane which satisfies a weak richness condition is induced by a module. 1

Affine Kettengeometrien ber Jordanalgebren

1996

It is shown that an affine chain geometry over a Jordan algebra can be constructed in a nearly classical manner. Conversely, such chain geometries are characterized as systems of rational normal curves having a group of automorphisms with certain properties.

Special Families of Curves, of Abelian Varieties, and of Certain Minimal Manifolds over Curves

2006

This survey article discusses some results on the structure of families f:V-->U of n-dimensional manifolds over quasi-projective curves U, with semistable reduction over a compactification Y of U. We improve the Arakelov inequality for the direct images of powers of the dualizing sheaf. For families of Abelian varieties we recall the characterization of Shimura curves by Arakelov equalities. For families of curves we recall the characterization of Teichmueller curves in terms of the existence of certain sub variation of Hodge structures. We sketch the proof that the moduli scheme of curves of genus g>1 can not contain compact Shimura curves, and that it only contains a non-compact Shimura c…

The Abel–Jacobi map for higher Chow groups

2006

We construct a map between Bloch's higher Chow groups and Deligne homology for smooth, complex quasiprojective varieties on the level of complexes. For complex projective varieties this results in a formula which generalizes at the same time the classical Griffiths Abel–Jacobi map and the Borel/Beilinson/Goncharov regulator type maps.

On the derived category of the Cayley plane II

2014

We find a full strongly exceptional collection for the Cayley plane OP2, the simplest rational homogeneous space of the exceptional group E6. This collection, closely related to the one given by the second author in [J. Algebra, 330:177-187, 2011], consists of 27 vector bundles which are homogeneous for the group E6, and is a Lefschetz collection with respect to the minimal equivariant embedding of OP2.

Enumerative Aspects of the Gross-Siebert Program

2015

For the last decade, Mark Gross and Bernd Siebert have worked with a number of collaborators to push forward a program whose aim is an understanding of mirror symmetry. In this chapter, we’ll present certain elements of the “Gross-Siebert” program. We begin by sketching its main themes and goals. Next, we review the basic definitions and results of two main tools of the program, logarithmic and tropical geometry. These tools are then used to give tropical interpretations of certain enumerative invariants. We study in detail the tropical pencil of elliptic curves in a toric del Pezzo surface. We move on to a basic illustration of mirror symmetry, Gross’s tropical construction for \(\mathbb{P…
