A Rational Design for Imidazolate-Bridged Linear Trinuclear Compounds from Mononuclear Copper(II) Complexes with 2-[((Imidazol-2-ylmethylidene)amino)…

2001

Two mononuclear copper(II) complexes with the unsymmetrical tridentate ligand 2-[((imidazol-2-ylmethylidene)amino)ethyl]pyridine (HL), [Cu(HL)(H2O)](ClO4)2.2H2O (1) and [Cu(HL)Cl2] (2), have been prepared and characterized. The X-ray analysis of 2 revealed that the copper(II) ion assumes a pentacoordinated square pyramidal geometry with an N3Cl2 donor set. When 1 and 2 are treated with an equimolecular amount of potassium hydroxide, the deprotonation of the imidazole moiety promotes a self-assembled process, by coordination of the imidazolate nitrogen atom to a Cu(II) center of an adjacent unit, leading to the polynuclear complexes [[Cu(L)(H2O)](ClO4)]n (3) and [[Cu(L)Cl].2H2O]n (4). Variab…

Crystal and molecular structure and electronic properties of [Cu(phen)2(HL)] · (phen)0.5 · 7H2O (H3L = 1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione), a nove…

1998

Abstract The crystal and molecular structure of [Cu(phen)2(HL) · (phen)0.5 · 7H2O (H2L = 1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione) has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The structure is built up of neutral [Cu(phen)2(HL)] entities (which are associated to form dinuclear units through hydrogen bonds involving the cyanurate ions), uncoordinated phenanthroline and crystallisation water molecules. The copper atom is involved in a CuN5 chromophore, with an stereochemistry near to a compressed trigonal bipyramid (TBP) but with a significant degree of distortion towards the square pyramidal (SP) topology. The EPR spectrum is indicative of a mixed d z 2 d x 2 −y 2 ground state for the copp…

Hypervalent tin-organic compounds: Vibrational spectroscopy in the solid as a tool for structure determination

1997

Abstract A full set of IR- and Raman spectra down from 600 cm1 has been determined and assigned for 60 penta- or hexacoordinated tin-compounds in the groups RSn(CH2CH2CH2)3N (R = Cl, Br, I, Me), RR'Sn(MCH2CH2)2X (R,R′ = Cl, Br, I, Me, Ph, M = CH2 S; X = NMe, O, S), RPh2SnCH2CH2CH2NMe2 (R = Cl, Br, I) and RMe2Sn—CHD—COOMe (R = F, Cl, Br, I, Me). In these hypervalent compounds an approach of the donor atom X to the central atom tin outlines a ‘path’ of nucleophilic attack from a tetrahedron to a trigonal bipyramid. Along this ‘reaction path’ the bond lengths of the axial ligand increase continuously while the bond lengths of the equatorial ligands slightly decrease. The number of similar hype…

Synthesis, reactivity and structures of ruthenium carbonyl clusters with telluride and hydride ligands

2002

The reaction of [Cp* 2 Nb(Te 2 H)] ( 1 ) (Cp*=C 5 Me 5 ) with [Ru 3 (CO) 12 ] in boiling toluene gave [Ru 3 (μ 2 -H) 2 (CO) 9 (μ 3 -Te)] ( 2 ), [Ru 6 (μ 3 -H)(CO) 15 (μ 3 -Te) 3 ][Cp* 2 Nb(CO) 2 ] ( 3 ) and [Ru 5 (μ 2 -H)(CO) 14 (μ 4 -Te)][Cp* 2 Nb(CO) 2 ] ( 4 ) along with already known [Ru 4 (CO) 11 (μ 4 -Te) 2 ] ( 5 ). Complexes 2 – 4 were analytically and spectroscopically characterized and X-ray diffraction analyses of 3 and 4 were carried out. The anion of 3 is built up of a triangular hexametallic core of C 3 v symmetry, in which the central Ru 3 triangle, being bridged by a μ 3 -H ligand, is composed of three corner-linked Ru 3 Te tetrahedra. The main structural feature of the anion …

Magnetostructural correlations in parallel square-planar halo-bridged copper(II) dimers. Part II: Structure and magnetic properties of [Cu2(terpy)2Br…

1987

Abstract The crystal and molecular structure of bis-μ- bromo-bis [(2,2′:6′,2″ - terpyridyl) copper (II) ] bis (hexafluorophosphate) has been determined from three dimensional single-crystal X-ray diffraction data, collected by counter techniques. The blue crystals belong to the monoclinic system, space group P21/a, with four formula units in a unit cell of dimensions a=20.40(2), b=13.35(2), c=6.453(8) A and β=97.74(9)°. The structure was solved using a refinement procedure and starting with the atomic positions of the isostructural complex [Cu(terpy)- Cl]2(PF6)2, to final agreement factors R=0.071 (Rw=0.077). The structure consists of dimeric molecules bridged by two bromine atoms. The coor…

A Bis(mu-phenoxo)-Bridged Dizinc Complex with Hydrolytic Activity

2013

The dinuclear complex [Zn2(papy)2]·2CH3OH [H2papy = N- (2-hydroxybenzyl)-N-(2-picolyl)glycine] was synthesized and characterized. The crystal structure of the complex reveals that both ZnII ions are pentacoordinate with distorted pentagonal bipyramidal coordination arrangements. The phenoxyl groups of each ligand bridge the two metal atoms, whereas each carboxylate of the ligand is terminally bound to one ZnII ion. Potentiometric studies of the ZnII:H2papy system in a methanol/water mixture show the existence of a mononuclear species at lower pH; but at a pH above 5, a dimeric species starts to dominate and transforms further into a bis(μ-phenoxo) bridged dizinc complex by deprotonation of …

Computer simulations of electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of P2O5Li2WO4Li2O glasses

1992

Abstract P2O5Li2WO4Li2O glasses have been synthesized and studied over a wide range of compositions. The glasses were characterized mainly by thermodifferential analysis and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). The EPR spectra are characterized by the presence of two signals with very different intensities, associated with the Wv (major signal) and Mov (minor signal) paramagnetic centres. The signals have been satisfactorily reproduced by computer simulation, assuming anisotropy in the g values as well as the hyperfine parameters and linewidths. EPR parameters have been extracted and indicate metallic ions located in environments close to square pyramidal.

Synthesis, spectroscopic and structural characterization of [Cu(phen)(C5O5)(H2O)]·H2O, [Ni(terpy)(C5O5)(H2O)]·H2O and [Ni(terpy)2](NO3)2·0.5H2O

2005

Abstract The new mononuclear complexes [Cu(phen)(C5O5)(H2O)]·H2O (1), [Ni(terpy)(C5O5)(H2O)]·H2O (2) and [Ni(terpy)2](NO3)2·0.5H2O (3) [phen=1,10-phenanthroline, C 5 O 5 2 − =dianion of the 4,5-dihydroxycyclopent-4-ene-1,2,3-trione and terpy=2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine] have been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The copper atom of 1 has a distorted square pyramidal environment with two phen-nitrogen and two croconate-oxygen atoms building the equatorial plane and a water molecule in the apical position. The nickel atom of 2 exhibits a distorted NiN3O3 octahedral coordination, which may be described either as tetragonally compressed or as skewed trapezoidal bipyr…
