Abstract An analytical method has been developed for the microwave-assisted extraction of synthetic pyrethroid insecticide residues in soils and their determination by gas chromatography with electron capture detector (ECD) and mass spectrometry (MS) detector. Clean soil samples were spiked with nine pyrethroids: tetramethrin, cyfluthrin, flucythrinate, deltamethrin, bifenthrin, permethrin, cypermethrin and fluvalinate were used for this study. Abstract A rapid and environmentally friendly methodology was developed for the extraction of pyrethroid insecticides from semi permeable membrane devices (SPMDs), in which they were preconcentrated in gas phase. The method was based on gas chromatography mass–mass spectrometry determination after a microwave-assisted extraction, in front of the widely employed dialysis method. SPMDs were extracted twice with 30 mL hexane:acetone, irradiated with 250 W power output, until 90 °C in 10 min, this temperature being held for another 10 min. The lethal doses of the pyrethroid deltamethrin were estimated for the egg parasitoid Trissolcus basalis (Wollaston) (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae), and the sub-lethal effects of an LD25 on female walking behaviour were evaluated. Linear speed of treated parasitoids was reduced compared with that of untreated ones for a period of up to 24 h. The sub-lethal effects of deltamethrin on parasitoid response to patches contaminated by a contact kairomone from its host, Nezara viridula L (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae), was also evaluated. Abstract Composites from furfuryl alcohol and silica gel were prepared in dichloromethane using trifluoroacetic acid as catalyst and characterized by means of thermogravimetric analysis, transmission electron microscopy and nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms. The polymer content in the composites ranged between 19.5% and 32.9%. The capability to adsorb polychlorinated biphenyls and pyrethroid insecticides was tested for composite samples containing different percentages of polymer. Pyrethroids are retained almost totally by composites containing around 24–33% of polymer, while recovery of PCBs close to 80% is obtained with all the composites. Entre les majors amenaces de l'apicultura contemporània es troba el parasitisme de Varroa destructor, Anderson & Trueman (Acari: Varroidae). Aquest àcar ectoparàsit altament especialitzat s'alimenta directament de les pupes i els adults de l'abella mel·lífera europea, Apis mellifera L. (Hymenoptera: Apidae), la qual cosa debilita greument a les abelles i les indueix una immunosupressió que desemboca en brots d'infeccions preexistents o vectorizades pels àcars que comprometen la viabilitat de les colònies.
