Biomimetic Mn-catalases based on dimeric manganese complexes in mesoporous silica for potential antioxidant agent
2015
Two new structural and functional models of the Mn-catalase with formula [{Mn(III)(bpy)(H2O)}(μ-2-MeOC6H4CO2)2(μ-O){Mn(III)(bpy)(X)}]X, where X = NO3 (1) and ClO4 (2) and bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, were synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction. In both cases, a water molecule and an X ion occupy the monodentate positions. The magnetic properties of these compounds reveal a weak antiferromagnetic behavior (2J = -2.2 cm(-1) for 1 and -0.7 cm(-1) for 2, using the spin Hamiltonian H = -2J S1·S2) and negative zero-field splitting parameter DMn (-4.6 cm(-1) and -3.0 cm(-1) for 1 and 2, respectively). This fact, together with the nearly orthogonal orientation of the Jahn-Teller axes of the M…

New dimeric nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes [(L)Ni(μ-L′)]2[ClO4]21 and [(L)Cu(μ-L′)]2[ClO4]22, [2-[3-(2′-pyridyl)pyrazol-1-ylmethyl]pyridine (L) and 3-(2-pyridyl)pyrazole (HL′)] have been synthesized, structurally characterized, and their absorption, magnetic, EPR and redox properties investigated. The crystal structure of 1·MeCN reveals a planar {Ni2(μ-L′)2}2+ core [Ni···Ni separation: 4.0765(10) A] in which each distorted octahedral NiII ions is terminally coordinated by a tridentate ligand L and bridged by two HL′ units, in their deprotonated form. The structural analysis of 2·2MeCN reveals two five-coordinate CuII ions, each terminally coordinated by adopting only a bidentate coordi…

2002
The new cyano complexes of formulas PPh4[FeIII(bipy)(CN)4]·H2O (1), [{FeIII(bipy)(CN)4}2MII(H2O)4]·4H2O with M = Mn (2) and Zn (3), and [{FeIII(bipy)(CN)4}2ZnII]·2H2O (4) [bipy = 2,2‘-bipyridine and PPh4 = tetraphenylphosphonium cation] have been synthesized and structurally characterized. The structure of complex 1 is made up of mononuclear [Fe(bipy)(CN)4]- anions, tetraphenyphosphonium cations, and water molecules of crystallization. The iron(III) is hexacoordinated with two nitrogen atoms of a chelating bipy and four carbon atoms of four terminal cyanide groups, building a distorted octahedron around the metal atom. The structure of complexes 2 and 3 consists of neutral centrosymmetric […
[Cr(AA)(C2O4)2]− and [Cu(bpca)]+ as building blocks in designing new oxalato-bridged CrIIICuII compounds [AA=2,2′-bipyridine and 1,10-phenanthroline…
2003
Abstract The monouclear complex PPh4[Cr(bipy)(ox)2]·H2O (1) and the heterodinuclear compounds [Cu(bpca)(H2O)Cr(bipy)(ox)2]·2.5H2O (2) and [Cu(bpca)(H2O)Cr(phen)(ox)2]·2H2O (3) [PPh4+=tetraphenylphosphonium cation, bpca=bis(2-pyridylcarbonyl)amide anion, ox=oxalate dianion, bipy=2,2′-bipyridine and phen=1,10-phenanthroline] have been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Discrete [Cr(bipy)(ox)2]− mononuclear anions and tetraphenylphosphonium cations are present in 1 whereas the structures of 2 and 3 are made up neutral oxalato-bridged bimetallic CrIIICuII units. The chromium environment is distorted octahedral in the three complexes: two nitrogen atoms from a bi…
Synthesis and properties of dinuclear Ru(II)/Os(II) complexes based on a heteroditopic phenanthroline-terpyridine bridging ligand.
2010
The synthesis and characterization of a series of mono- and dinuclear ruthenium(II) and osmium(II) polypyridyl complexes based on the heteroditopic bridging ligand PT are reported. This ligand incorporates bidentate phen (1,10-phenanthroline) and terdentate tpy (2,2':6',2''-terpyridine) units directly connected by their 3 and 5 positions, respectively. The dinuclear complexes have been synthesized via a Pd(0) catalyzed cross-coupling reaction between a bromo-substituted Ru-phen complex and a tpy derivative incorporating a boronate ester, followed by Ru(II) or Os(II) complexation. The compounds obtained are fully characterized using spectroscopic and electrochemical measurements. The electro…
Solvent-driven dimensionality control in molecular systems containing CuII, 2,2′-bipyridine and an oxamato-based ligand
2013
A discrete dicopper(II) system, [Cu(bipy)(H2mpba)]2·2H2O (1), and its isomeric chain, [Cu(bipy)(H2mpba)]·dmso (2) [bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine and H4mpba = N,N′-1,3-phenylenebis(oxamic acid)], were obtained by modifying the ratio of the H2O–dmso solvent mixture, and their interconversion was also monitored by changing the solvents during the synthesis. The solvents play an essential role in the formation and crystallization of these complexes, presenting different dimensionalities and connectivities. The double deprotonated H2mpba2− adopts the bidentate/monodentate (1) and bis-bidentate (2) bridging modes toward the (2,2′-bipyridyl)copper(II) units affording a dinuclear compound (1) and a linear…
Reactions of rhodium trifluoroacetate with triphenylphosphine and pyridine. Molecular structure of Rh2(O2CCF3)4(py)4
1993
Abstract Rh 2 (O 2 CCF 3 ) 4 reacts with two mol of triphenylphosphine forming the adduct Rh 2 (O 2 CCF 3 ) 4 (PPh 3 ) 2 . This compound in solution, even at room temperature, undergoes slow stepwise orthometalation of the phosphine ligands forming the doubly metalated compound Rh 2 (O 2 CCF 3 ) 2 [(C 6 H 4 )P(C 6 H 5 ) 2 ] 2 . This reaction has been monitored by 31 P NMR spectroscopy detecting in solution three reaction intermediates. Rh 2 (O 2 CCF 3 ) 4 reacts with excess of pyridine to form the compound Rh 2 (O 2 CCF 3 ) 4 (py) 4 that can be structurally classified as a class III adduct. It contains two bridging and two monodentate equatorial carboxylates and two equatorial and two axial…
Influence of tetrahedral distortion of CuN4 complexes on spectroscopic properties. Synthesis, characterization and crystal structures of [Cu(N-(2-met…
2001
Abstract A series of new N-sulfonamide ligands and their copper(II) complexes, [Cu(N-(2-methylpyridyl)toluenesulfonylamidate)2] (1), [Cu(N-(2-methylpyridyl)benzenesulfonylamidate)2] (2) and [Cu(N-(2-methylpyridyl)naphthalenesulfonylamidate)2] (3), have been synthesized and characterized. Single crystal X-ray analysis of the three complexes revealed that all of them present a tetracoordinate CuN4 chromophore. The ligands act as bidentate, coordinating the metal ion through the pyridine and sulfonamido N atoms. The main structural difference among the compounds is the varied degree of distortion of square-planar stereochemistry. Complex 1 exhibits a regular square-planar geometry. In complexe…
