GABA transporters (GATs) are an essential element of the GABAergic system, which regulate excitability in the central nervous system and are thus used as targets for anticonvulsive therapy. However, in the immature nervous system the functions of the GABAergic system and the expression profile of GATs are distinct from the adult situation, obscuring to predict how different GAT isoforms influence epileptiform activity. Chronic nicotine administration in animals, and smoking in humans, causes up-regulation of α4β2* neuronal nicotinic receptors (nAChRs), which has been hypothesized to contribute to the addictive actions of nicotine. We used a rat model to test whether such up-regulatory effects differ in adolescents versus adults, and in males versus females. Role of Ca2+-Activated K+ Channels on Adrenergic Responses of Human Saphenous Vein

Background We studied the participation of K + channels on the adrenergic responses in human saphenous veins as well as the intervention of dihydropyridine-sensitive Ca 2+ channels on modulation of adrenergic responses by K + channels blockade. Summary— The effects of the dihydropyridine calcium antagonist nicardipine on the concentration-response curves of relaxant compounds acting through the adenylate-cyclase/cAMP system (isoprenaline, forskolin, adenosine and theophylline) or by the cGMP pathway (sodium nitroprusside) were studied on human isolated bronchus and guinea-pig isolated trachea. These effects were compared with those of nifedipine (a dihydropyridine derivative) and theophylline (a non-selective phosphodiesterase inhibitor). Objective: We aimed to analyze the outcomes of patients treated with cabozantinib for metastatic renal cell carcinoma with sarcomatoid features. Purpose: Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) is one of the most feared and disturbing adverse events of cancer treatment associated with decreased adherence to effective chemotherapy regimens. Cytotoxic activity of the novel small molecule AKT inhibitor SC66 in hepatocellular carcinoma cells

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is characterized by limited response to current drug therapies. Here, we report that SC66, a novel AKT inhibitor, reduced cell viability in a dose- and time-dependent manner, inhibited colony formation and induced apoptosis in HCC cells. SC66 treatment led to a reduction in total and phospho-AKT levels. This was associated with alterations in cytoskeleton organization, a reduction in expression levels of E-cadherin, β-catenin and phospho-FAK, together with up-regulation of Snail protein levels.
