Pyrolysis/gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis of 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl-21H,23H-porphyrin and some of its derivatives

A coupled on-line pyrolysis/gas chromatography/mass spectrometry technique (Py/GC/MS) was applied to identify products of pyrolysis of 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl-21H,23H-porphyrin (1a) and its methyl and hydroxyl substituted derivatives (1b and 1c). The mass spectra of some important pyrolitic products are presented and mass fragmentation of this type compounds is discussed. From the investigation it can be concluded that the direction of the main thermal (pyrolytic) reactions is similar for all compounds studied: namely breaking of the porphyrin macrocycle followed by splitting of molecule fragments containing one, two or three pyrrole and/or benzene rings. Abstract A series of novel di(1-benzothieno)[3,2-b:2′,3′-d]pyrrole (DBTP)-based organic dyes (WL5-10) with D-D-π-A or D-D-A-π-A configurations are designed and the relationship between the properties and molecular configurations of these organic dyes are studied systematically. WL5,7–8 with D-D-π-A configuration incorporating triphenylamine or phenothiazine as donor and DBTP as auxiliary donor and WL9-10 with D-D-A-π-A configuration incorporating benzothiadiazole as an auxiliary acceptor are synthesized to study the effect of the molecular engineering on the photovoltaic performance. Hybrid materials combining polypyrrole with ionic macrocycles as counterions are electrosynthesized at the surface of platinum interdigitated electrodes. The chemical composition of the hybrid films is characterized by infrared reflexion absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) and glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy (GDOES) and their morphology is studied by a range of techniques such as optical topomicroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The obtained films reveal to be more homogeneous, with smaller crystallites, compared to polypyrrole synthesized with small counterions. Abstract New palladium-polypyrrole (Pd/PPy) nanocomposites have been studied in cyanation of aryl halides with K 4 Fe(CN) 6 and showed high catalytic efficiency. Aryl iodides, bromides, and chlorides are active. The reaction can be performed both in organic solvents and in water; in the latter case, the catalyst was immobilized on graphite support. The cyanation of inactivated aryl chlorides is of special importance as only a few publications dealing with efficient cyanation of aryl chlorides are available, in which expensive and poisonous phosphine ligands and non-aqueous solvents are used. Electrochemical deposition of polypyrrole nanolayers on discontinuous ultrathin gold films.

Ultrathin layers of polypyrrole (PPy) were electrochemically grown between microelectrodes on a $Si/SiO_2$ substrate. Conducting nanolayers of PPy are directly grown onto ultrathin discontinuous gold (Au) film between the microelectrodes, with thicknesses in the range 10–100 nm. The system therefore forms a novel (PPy/Au) nanocomposite conductor. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) imaging and conductivity measurements indicate that at all thicknesses a relatively uniform film is formed but with significant roughness that reflects the roughness of the metallic island layer. Nonlinear Transport in Hybrid Polypyrrole–Gold Nanostructures

We have studied charge transport in nanometer scale films of polypyrrole (PPy) that were grown electrochemically onto discontinuous ultrathin films of gold. The gold films consisted of 100 nm size islands, separated from each other by nanometer-size gaps. The thickness of PPy can be varied from 30 to 200 nm. The I-V characteristics of these hybrid PPy-Au nanostructures show strong non-linearity at low temperatures, and in particular for the more insulating samples. The hopping transport is further verified from the log / versus V-1/4 plots. Furthermore, the I-V data follow an empirical relation dlog//dV(1/4) similar to T-1/2.

Abstract Four novel metal-free organic dyes WL1a-b and WL2a-b containing di(1-benzothieno)[3,2-b:2′,3′-d]pyrrole (DBTP) as electron donor were synthesized and applied for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), where DBTP was firstly employed as a donor in the organic dyes. It has been demonstrated that the dyes WL with DBTP as a donor show better photovoltaic performance than the reference dye PTZ with phenothiazine as a donor. In comparison with WL1a-b with one cyanoacrylic acid as mono-anchor, WL2a-b with two cyanoacrylic acids as bi-anchors show a broader light absorption on the TiO2 film and higher molar extinction coefficients in solution, resulting in higher power conversion efficiency. …

International audience; Polyaniline (PANI) with electrodonating and electrowithdrawing substituents were electrodeposited and studied as sensing materials in resistors and heterojunctions. Whereas the dimethoxyaniline leads to a highly conductive material, the tetrafluoroaniline leads to a poor conducting polymer. However, this latter was used in heterojunctions, associated with a highly conductive material, the lutetium bisphthalocyanine LuPc2. Adducts of free-base meso-tetraarylporphyrins with trihaloacetic acids: Structure and photostability

Abstract Four diverse meso-tetraarylporphyrins in the form of diprotonated adducts with trifluoro-, trichloro-, tribromoacetic acids and acetic acid were investigated in benzene solution. Despite similar structural distortion of the chromophore system due to protonation, the respective adducts demonstrated different photostability when exposed to UV irradiation. The trifluoro- and trichloroacetic adducts, and the acetic acid one, showed some common features both molecular and in the mechanism of photodegradation.
