Independent and cumulative yields of very neutron-rich nuclei in 20 MeVp- and 18–41 MeVd-induced fission ofU238

Independent and cumulative yields in nearly symmetric fission have been measured for the first time by bombarding $^{238}\mathrm{U}$ with 20-MeV protons and with 18-, 25-, and 41-MeV deuterons. Isobaric charge dispersion has been determined in the A=110, A=112, and A=114 mass chains and, from asymmetric fission, in the A=80 mass chain. The average isobaric charges in the p+U reaction were 44.01\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.20 (A=110), 45.15\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.15 (A=112), and 45.74\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.15 (A=114). The widths (standard deviations) of the charge dispersion curves were 0.82\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.08 (A=112) and 0.54\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.08 (A=114…
Mass measurements in the vicinity of the doubly magic waiting pointNi56

Masses of $^{56,57}\mathrm{Fe}$, $^{53}\mathrm{Co}$${}^{m}$, $^{53,56}\mathrm{Co}$, $^{55,56,57}\mathrm{Ni}$, $^{57,58}\mathrm{Cu}$, and $^{59,60}\mathrm{Zn}$ have been determined with the JYFLTRAP Penning trap mass spectrometer at the Ion-Guide Isotope Separator On-Line facility with a precision of $\ensuremath{\delta}m/m\ensuremath{\leqslant}3\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}8}$. Direct Measurement of the Mass Difference ofHo163andDy163Solves theQ-Value Puzzle for the Neutrino Mass Determination

The atomic mass difference of (163)Ho and (163)Dy has been directly measured with the Penning-trap mass spectrometer SHIPTRAP applying the novel phase-imaging ion-cyclotron-resonance technique. Our measurement has solved the long-standing problem of large discrepancies in the Q value of the electron capture in (163)Ho determined by different techniques. Our measured mass difference shifts the current Q value of 2555(16) eV evaluated in the Atomic Mass Evaluation 2012 [G. Audi et al., Chin. Phys. C 36, 1157 (2012)] by more than 7σ to 2833(30(stat))(15(sys)) eV/c(2). With the new mass difference it will be possible, e.g., to reach in the first phase of the ECHo experiment a statistical sensit…
Precision Ga71–Ge71 mass-difference measurement

Abstract The Ga 71 ( ν e , e − ) Ge 71 reaction Q value has been measured with the JYFLTRAP mass spectrometer at the IGISOL facility of the University of Jyvaskyla to Q = 232.443(93) keV. This value agrees with previous measurements, though it features a much higher accuracy. The Q value is being discussed in the context of the solar neutrino capture rate in Ga 71 .
Low-lying level structure of Cu56 and its implications for the rp process

The low-lying energy levels of proton-rich Cu56 have been extracted using in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy with the state-of-the-art γ-ray tracking array GRETINA in conjunction with the S800 spectrograph at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University. Excited states in Cu56 serve as resonances in the Ni55(p,γ)Cu56 reaction, which is a part of the rp process in type-I x-ray bursts. To resolve existing ambiguities in the reaction Q value, a more localized isobaric multiplet mass equation (IMME) fit is used, resulting in Q=639±82 keV. We derive the first experimentally constrained thermonuclear reaction rate for Ni55(p,γ)Cu56. We find that, with this new rate, the …
Decay study ofTc114with a Penning trap

The level structure of $^{114}\mathrm{Ru}$ has been investigated via the $\ensuremath{\beta}$ decay of very neutron-rich $^{114}\mathrm{Tc}$ by means of Penning-trap-assisted $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ spectroscopy. The deduced $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay scheme suggests the existence of two $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decaying states in $^{114}\mathrm{Tc}$ with ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={1}^{+}$ and $I\ensuremath{\geqslant}$ 4, with half-lives of ${t}_{1/2}({1}^{+})=90(20)$ ms and ${t}_{1/2}(I\ensuremath{\geqslant}4)=100(20)$ ms, respectively. The ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\beta}}$ value, which covers a possible mixture of two states, has been determined to be ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\beta}}=11 785(12)$ keV. The level…
Octupolar-Excitation Penning-Trap Mass Spectrometry forQ-Value Measurement of Double-Electron Capture inEr164

The theory of octupolar-excitation ion-cyclotron-resonance mass spectrometry is presented which predicts an increase of up to several orders of magnitude in resolving power under certain conditions. The new method has been applied for a direct Penning-trap mass-ratio determination of the $^{164}\mathrm{Er}\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}^{164}\mathrm{Dy}$ mass doublet. $^{164}\mathrm{Er}$ is a candidate for the search for neutrinoless double-electron capture. However, the measured ${Q}_{ϵϵ}$ value of 25.07(12) keV results in a half-life of ${10}^{30}$ years for a 1 eV Majorana-neutrino mass.
Neutrino mass, neutrinoless double electron capture and rare beta decays

We present results of our theoretical calculations on three nuclei of interest from the neutrino-physics point of view: Firstly, we present the second-forbidden decay branch of 115In with the ultra-low Q value and theoretical open questions related to such decays. Secondly, we have calculated estimates for the half-lives of the single-beta decay channels of 96Zr and concluded that the possible contamination from those to the geochemical measurements of 96Zr double-beta-decay half-life is rather small. Thirdly, we have taken a look at the neutrinoless resonance double-electron-capture decay of 112Sn in the light of recent JYFLTRAP Q value measurements and discovered that the badly fulfilled …
Gamow-Teller strengths in proton-rich exotic nuclei deduced in the combined analysis of mirror transitions

Isospin symmetry is expected for the T-z=+/- 1 -> 0 isobaric analogous transitions in isobars with mass number A, where T-z is the z component of isospin T. Assuming this symmetry, strengths of analogous Gamow-Teller (GT) transitions within A=50 isobars were determined from a high energy-resolution T-z=+1 -> 0, Cr-50(He-3,t)Mn-50 study at 0 degrees in combination with the decay Q value and lifetime from the T-z=-1 -> 0, Fe-50 ->Mn-50 beta decay. This method can be applied to other pf-shell nuclei and can be used to study GT strengths of astrophysical interest.

The half-life, the branching ratio, and the decay $Q$ value of the superallowed $\ensuremath{\beta}$ emitter $^{42}\mathrm{Ti}$ were measured in an experiment performed at the JYFLTRAP facility of the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyv\"askyl\"a. $^{42}\mathrm{Ti}$ is the heaviest ${T}_{z}=\ensuremath{-}1$ nucleus for which high-precision measurements of these quantities have been tried. The half-life (${T}_{1/2}=208.14\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.45$ ms) and the $Q$ value [${Q}_{\mathrm{EC}}=7016.83(25)$ keV] are close to or reach the required precision of about 0.1%.
