Oral Health-related quality of life after coronectomy for impacted mandibular third molar in the first postoperative week

2021

Background Coronectomy of a mandibular impacted third molar is a surgical treatment to minimize the risk for inferior alveolar nerve damage. We aimed to determine whether this procedure affected the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) within the first postoperative week. Material and Methods This prospective study included 50 patients that underwent a coronectomy for an impacted mandibular third molar. The patients completed the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14) questionnaire and questions about pain and analgesic intake on every day during the first postoperative week. Results Mean OHIP-14 scores were highest during the first three postoperative days; the highest mean score …

The effectiveness of cochlear implantation on performance-based and patient-reported outcome measures in Finnish recipients

2021

Understanding speech is essential for adequate social interaction, and its functioning affects health, wellbeing, and quality of life (QoL). Untreated hearing loss (HL) is associated with reduced social activity, depression and cognitive decline. Severe and profound HL is routinely rehabilitated with cochlear implantation. The success of treatment is mostly assessed by performance-based outcome measures such as speech perception. The ultimate goal of cochlear implantation, however, is to improve the patient’s QoL. Therefore, patient-reported outcomes measures (PROMs) would be clinically valuable as they assess subjective benefits and overall effectiveness of treatment. The aim of this study…

A cross-sectional study of Health Related Quality of Life and body mass index in a Norwegian school sample (8–18 years): a comparison of child and pa…

2015

Background Because consequences of pediatric overweight and obesity are largely psychosocial, the aim of this study was to describe health related quality of life (HRQoL), the prevalence of overweight and obesity, and to examine the relationships between HRQoL and body mass index (BMI), age, and gender in a Norwegian sample of schoolchildren. In addition, because children are dependent upon their parents’ judgment of their condition, the aim was also to compare child- and parent-reported HRQoL and BMI, age, and gender. Methods This cross-sectional study involved 1238 children (8–18 years) and 828 parents. HRQoL was measured with the Norwegian version of the KIDSCREEN-52, child and parent ve…

The Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic and Lockdown Measures on Quality of Life among Italian General Population

2021

The COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the world in the year 2020 has put a strain on our ability to cope with events and revolutionized our daily habits. On 9 March, Italy was forced to lockdown to prevent the spread of the infection, with measures including the mandatory closure of schools and nonessential activities, travel restrictions, and the obligation to spend entire weeks in the same physical space. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown measures on quality of life (QoL) in a large Italian sample, in order to investigate possible differences in QoL levels related to both demographic and pandemic-specific variables. A total of 2251 Italian a…

Dzīves kvalitāte pacientiem ar iekaisīgo zarnu slimībām Latvijā

2017

Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Disease Control Status and Quality of Life of Patients with Acromegaly.

2022

Background and Objectives: Despite the best efforts of healthcare workers and the deployment of alternative healthcare delivery solutions through telemedicine, the pandemic has disrupted standard care for patients with chronic conditions. The long-lasting pandemic has also had a profound impact on the quality of life (QoL) of the majority of patients with chronic illnesses. The management of rare diseases has been particularly challenging. We aimed to evaluate the impacts that the long-lasting pandemic had on the disease control status and QoL in patients with acromegaly. Materials and Methods: Our prospective study included 34 patients from a national referral centre. The baseline SAGIT an…

A multicenter randomized trial for quality of life evaluation by non-invasive intelligent tools during post-curative treatment follow-up for head and…

2023

Patients surviving head and neck cancer (HNC) suffer from high physical, psychological, and socioeconomic burdens. Achieving cancer-free survival with an optimal quality of life (QoL) is the primary goal for HNC patient management. So, maintaining lifelong surveillance is critical. An ambitious goal would be to carry this out through the advanced analysis of environmental, emotional, and behavioral data unobtrusively collected from mobile devices. The aim of this clinical trial is to reduce, with non-invasive tools (i.e., patients' mobile devices), the proportion of HNC survivors (i.e., having completed their curative treatment from 3 months to 10 years) experiencing a clinically relevant r…

Treatment adherence and QoL with intermittent PTH therapy: Results from a multicentre Italian study after 6 months

2011

This ongoing multicentre study was carried out to investigate the adherence to intermittent parathyroid hormone treatment and the effect on QoL in a typical Italian population eligible for drug reimbursement (i.e. a new vertebral or hip fracture following at least one year of anti-resorptive therapy or three severe vertebral fractures or two severe and one femur fracture). 204 female patients (mean age: 72.6±8.3) were enrolled between March 2008 and April 2009. These patients were treated with PTH (PTH 1–34 or PTH 1–84) according to Italian legislation. Here, we report the results obtained at month 6.
