Application of an HPLC-MS/MS method for mycotoxin analysis in commercial baby foods

2012

Abstract This article describes the validation of an analytical method for the detection of 21 mycotoxins in baby food. The analytical method is based on the simultaneous extraction of selected mycotoxins by matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) followed by liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) using a hybrid triple quadrupole-linear ion trap mass spectrometer (QTRAP®). Information Dependent Acquisition (IDA), an extra confirmation tool for samples that contain the selected mycotoxins, was used. The matrix effects were evaluated, and the corrections for the matrix effects were performed using two calibration approaches: external matrix-matched calibration and…

Internet of Things : a gateway centric solution for providing IoT connectivity

2016

The Internet of Things (IoT) is revolutionising the traditional Internet by extending it with smart everyday objects. Wearables, smart grids and home automation systems are just a few examples of the IoT. A noteworthy point is that the amount of devices connected to the Internet will rapidly grow with the IoT. The IoT typically involves devices that are constrained in terms of energy, memory and processing resources. Therefore, they also limit applying the existing Internet protocols to the IoT. New protocols have been designed for the IoT, all the way from the physical layer, to the application layer. This thesis presents an implementation for an IoT gateway, which enables connectivity to …

Analysis of environmental rhythms with the IoT system

2021

COVID-19 slimība, ko izraisa SARS-CoV-2 vīrus, ir izraisījusi globālu pandēmiju ar milzīgiem zaudējumiem. Šis vīrus galvenokārt izplatās caur inficētiem gaisa pilieniem, kur tie atkarībā no to izmēriem, var uzturēties gaisā vairākas stundas.

Kopumā noteikti 12 mikotoksīni – beauvericīns, 4 dažādi enniatīni, sterigmatocistīns, ohratoksīns A, aflatoksīns B1, zearalenons, deoksinivalenols, HT-2 un T-2 toksīni. European traditional tomatoes galore: a result of farmers' selection of a few diversity-rich loci

2022

A comprehensive collection of 1254 tomato accessions, corresponding to European traditional and modern varieties, early domesticated varieties, and wild relatives, was analyzed by genotyping by sequencing. A continuous genetic gradient between the traditional and modern varieties was observed. European traditional tomatoes displayed very low genetic diversity, with only 298 polymorphic loci (95% threshold) out of 64 943 total variants. European traditional tomatoes could be classified into several genetic groups. Two main clusters consisting of Spanish and Italian accessions showed higher genetic diversity than the remaining varieties, suggesting that these regions might be independent seco…

QT Indexes in Cirrhotic Patients: Relationship with Clinical Variables and Potential Diagnostic Predictive Value.

2015

Background and Aims A wide spectrum of cardiovascular changes characterizes cirrhosis, ranging from subclinical alterations to hyperkinetic syndrome. We looked for ECG markers of ventricular repolarization in a population of patients with cirrhosis in comparison to patients without cirrhosis and we investigated the relationship between these and other clinical and laboratory variables. Methods In 149 patients with cirrhosis and 152 controls, we measured QT maximum interval (QTmax), QT corrected interval (QTc), QT minimum interval (QTmin), QT dispersion (QTdisp), QT peak and T peak-to-end (TpTe). Results In subjects with cirrhosis, in comparison with controls, we observed a higher mean QTmax…

The long QT syndrome in pediatric age: Prognosis and risk factor

2008

AIM: Long QT syndrome is a rare arrhythmic disease with a low incidence in the general population. There are no sure clinical or electrocardiographic parameters that could lead to a correct prognostic stratification in patients affected by this syndrome. The correlation between the incidence of a sudden death or dangerous ventricular arrhythmias and the duration of QTc interval is still a controversial topic. METHODS: Twenty nine children affected by QT long syndrome were admitted to the Division of Pediatric Cardiology of the Casa del Sole Hospital of Palermo (Italy). Their diagnosis was made by electrocardiogram (ECG). The average age of the patients was 7.6 years. The average follow-up w…

Carbon monoxide detection

2019

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a particularly toxic gas, and the CO poisoning is the leading cause of fatal poisoning in the world. One solution to deal with this dangerous gas is to exploit the advantages given to us by the applications and the technology advances in internet of things (IoT). In this context, we propose to integrate carbon monoxide detection objects to the internet, as part of civil protection intervention applications in case of detection of carbon monoxide to avoid poisoning. To do this, we propose a typical IoT architecture to manage the alerts sent to civil protection in the event of detection of carbon monoxide (CO). The architecture is based on the Message Queue Telemetry T…

Evidence for PTGER4 ,PSCA, and MBOAT7 as risk genes for gastric cancer on the genome and transcriptome level

2018

Genetic associations between variants on chromosome 5p13 and 8q24 and gastric cancer (GC) have been previously reported in the Asian population. We aimed to replicate these findings and to characterize the associations at the genome and transcriptome level. We performed a fine-mapping association study in 1926 GC patients and 2012 controls of European descent using high dense SNP marker sets on both chromosomal regions. Next, we performed expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL) analyses using gastric transcriptome data from 143 individuals focusing on the GC associated variants. On chromosome 5p13 the strongest association was observed at rs6872282 (P = 2.53 x 10(-04)) and on chromosome …

10qter deletion: A new case

2008

Vertebrate telomeres consist of tandem repeats of the TTAGGG sequence that cap the ends of chromosomes, protecting them from degradation and fusion. Extensive evidence has shown that telomere shortening and erosion lead lo chromo¬some end-to-end fusions and genomic instability, causing mental retardation and/or malformation syndromes. So far, over 19,000 patients with mental retardation have been tested and reported of whom -2.5% appeared to have a subtelomeric rearrange¬ment [Ravnan et al., 2006; Ballif et al., 2007; Ledbetter and Martin, 2007]. Since the identification of sub¬microscopic subtelomeric rearrangements as a major cause of mental retardation [Flint et al., 1995], testing for s…
