Assessment of Construct Validity of the Oswestry Disability Index and the Scoliosis Research Society–30 Questionnaire (SRS-30) in Patients With Degen…

2019

Observational cohort study. To measure and compare the structural validity of the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and the Scoliosis Research Society-30 (SRS-30) questionnaire in an adult population with prolonged degenerative thoracolumbar disease. The ODI and the SRS-30 are commonly used patient-reported outcome instruments to assess back-specific disability and symptoms related to scoliosis. Still, these instruments have not been validated for degenerative spinal disease with different stages of deformity.Altogether, 637 consecutive adult patients with degenerative spinal pathologies were included. The patients completed the ODI (version 2.0), the 23 preoperative items of the SRS-30, a gene…

Assessing psychological and supportive care needs in glioma patients - feasibility study on the use of the Supportive Care Needs Survey Short Form (S…

2016

Neuro-oncological patients experience high symptom and psychosocial burden. The aim was to test feasibility and practicability of the Supportive Care Needs Survey Short Form (SCNS-SF34-G) and the SCNS-Screening Tool (SCNS-ST9) to assess supportive care needs of neuro-oncological patients in clinical routine. A total of 173 patients, most with a primary diagnosis of high-grade glioma (81%), were assessed first using SCNS-SF34-G in comparison to two well-established patient-reported outcome measures, the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQC30 + QLQ-BN20) and Distress Thermometer (DT). In a follow-up assessment, SCNS-ST9 was used …

Response and remission of subjective well-being in patients suffering from schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

2009

AbstractBackgroundPurpose of this study was to assess subjective well-being in schizophrenia inpatients and to find variables predictive for response and remission of subjective well-being.MethodThe subjective well-being under neuroleptic treatment scale (SWN-K) was used in 232 schizophrenia patients within a naturalistic multicenter trial. Early response was defined as a SWN-K total score improvement of 20% and by at least 10 points within the first 2 treatment weeks, response as an improvement in SWN-K total score of at least 20% and by at least 10 points from admission to discharge and remission in subjective well-being as a total score of more or equal to 80 points at discharge. Anxiety and subjective quality of life preoperatively and 4 months after reduction mammaplasty.

2005

Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the development of anxiety, psychological distress, and subjective quality of life on the basis of the criteria of satisfaction and expectations in a group of women who had undergone reduction mammaplasty for cosmetic reasons. Method The population consisted of 20 women who had requested breast reduction treatment [mean age, 34.70 (±10.94)] for cosmetic reasons. After being informed of the purpose of the study and after giving their written consent, the subjects took part in a psychological examination conducted at two different times (T1, initial medical consultation; T2, 4 months after surgery). At each of these stages, the psycholo…

Impact of Baseline and Induced Dyspnea on the Quality of Life of Patients With COPD

2008

Objective Dyspnea is the main symptom of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and as such is an important determinant of health-related quality of life. It is, however, weakly correlated to severity of obstruction and there is little information available on how it exercises its effect on health-related quality of life. The aims of this study were to identify the determinants of baseline dyspnea and to ascertain how that factor influences the health-related quality of life of patients with COPD. Patients and methods A total of 101 patients with COPD were studied. Tests included full lung function assessment, the bronchial provocation test (n=70), and the 6-minute walk test. The foll…

Effects of a home-based rehabilitation program in obese type 2 diabetics.

2012

International audience; OBJECTIVE: To assess, in obese type 2 diabetics (T2D), the impact of a home-based effort training program and the barriers to physical activity (PA) practice. METHOD: Twenty-three obese T2D patients (52.7 ± 8.2 years, BMI = 38.5 ± 7.6 kg/m(2)) were randomized to either a control group (CG), or an intervention group (IG) performing home-based cyclergometer training during 3 months, 30 min/day, with a monthly-supervised session. The initial and final measurements included: maximal graded effort test on cyclergometer, 6-minute walk test (6MWT) and 200-meter fast walk test (200mFWT), quadriceps maximal isometric strength, blood tests and quality of life assessment (SF- 3…

Effect of Lanadelumab Compared With Placebo on Prevention of Hereditary Angioedema Attacks: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

2018

Current treatments for long-term prophylaxis in hereditary angioedema have limitations. To assess the efficacy of lanadelumab, a fully human monoclonal antibody that selectively inhibits active plasma kallikrein, in preventing hereditary angioedema attacks.Phase 3, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, placebo-controlled trial conducted at 41 sites in Canada, Europe, Jordan, and the United States. Patients were randomized between March 3, 2016, and September 9, 2016; last day of follow-up was April 13, 2017. Randomization was 2:1 lanadelumab to placebo; patients assigned to lanadelumab were further randomized 1:1:1 to 1 of the 3 dose regimens. Patients 12 years or older with hereditary a…

Efficacy, safety and quality of life of calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate (Dovobet (R)) versus calcipotriol (Daivonex (R)) in the treatment of …

2007

Objective: A clinical trial was performed to evaluate the efficacy, speed of response, side effects and quality of life of patients treated with calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate (Dovobet (R)) for 4 weeks followed by maintenance with calcipotriol for 8 weeks (group A) versus calcipotriol (Daivonex (R)) alone for 12 weeks (group B) for the treatment of psoriasis. Materials and methods: A total of 150 patients were enrolled and randomized to groups A and B. PASI and Skindex-29 were considered the outcome measures. Results: Ninety-six patients completed the trial. At weeks 2 and 4, both groups showed a significant clinical improvement compared to baseline; group A demonstrated a higher c…

Symptom course in inpatient and day clinic treatment of depression: Results from the INDDEP-Study.

2015

Abstract Background In major depression (MDD), hospital treatment is an option in more severe cases or if outpatient treatment failed. Psychosomatic hospitals in Germany provide treatment programs with multimodal psychotherapy, either in an inpatient or a day hospital setting. In the context of health care research, this study aimed (1) to compare characteristics of patients treated in psychosomatic day hospitals and inpatient units, (2) to compare the effectiveness of both treatment modalities. Methods A naturalistic design was chosen to achieve external validity. 604 consecutive patients were assessed at admission, discharge and a 3-month follow-up. Primary outcome was defined as a reduct…

Deterioration in quality of life (QOL) in patients with malignant ascites : Results from a phase II/III study comparing paracentesis plus catumaxomab…

2012

Background: Malignant ascites (MA) is associated with poor prognosis and limited palliative therapeutic options. Therefore, quality of life (QoL) assessment is of particular importance to demonstrate new treatment value. Following the demonstration of the superiority of catumaxomab and paracentesis over paracentesis on puncture-free survival, this analysis aimed at comparing deterioration in QoL between both the treatment options. Patients and methods: In a randomised, multicentre, phase II/III study of patients with MA due to epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) positive cancer, the QoL was evaluated using the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life …
