Who designs the classroom’s images? Study of visual culture diversity at three Valencian schools

The research reported on here elaborated on the effects that images displayed on the walls have in schools as a variable in evaluating the educational quality. Mixed methods were used to analyse the images displayed on the walls of 27 classrooms to determine their provenance and authorship. The results show quantitative, qualitative and aesthetical values of the school visual culture, thanks to the numerous photographic series (resembling in graphs) which are a testimony of each classroom. Abstract Before the US midterm elections of November 2014, the well-known women’s magazine Cosmopolitan decided to include politics in its contents. The editorial board stated that their aim was to encourage readers to vote and to be engaged with women’s rights advocay in the election process. To that end, Cosmopolitan created a new website, CosmoVotes, with content ranging from discussion of political issues to endorsement of specific candidates who were believed to advance women’s issues. This paper focuses on the use of evaluation criteria and rubrics as tools for training in an audiovisual translation mode: subtitling for the D/deaf and the hard of hearing (SDH). Following an introduction to the current conception of and research carried out on quality assurance and assessment both in the translation industry and academia, a brief overview of the assessment processes and instruments used in SDH university training and in the professional sector is provided. This is followed by a case study of SDH assessment practices in Spain. Examining the role of religion in a family setting: religious attitudes and quality of life among parents and their adolescent children

The study examined the role of religion in a family setting by evaluating relationships between religious attitudes and quality of life among parents and their adolescent children. Previous research suggested that religious beliefs and behavior play an important role in shaping family relations and their members’ well-being. The group of 465 parents and adolescents completed four scales measuring religiousness, quality of life, and satisfaction with life. Results using correlational analyses and cluster comparisons showed that religiousness had a significant effect on both subjective quality of life dimensions and satisfaction with life among parents and adolescents. Sperm competition may select for male reproductive traits that influence female mating or oviposition rate. These traits may induce fitness costs to the female; however, they may be costly for the males as well as any decrease in female fitness also affects male fitness. Male adaptations to sperm competition manipulate females by altering not only female behaviour or physiology, but also female morphology.
