Charged colloidal model systems under confinement in slit geometry: a new setup for optical microscopic studies.
2013
A new experimental setup for optical microscopic studies of charged colloidal model systems under confinement between two flat walls is presented. The measurement cell consists of optically flat quartz substrates attached to piezo actuators. Those facilitate fast and flexible adjustment of the confining geometry. Optionally, the local cell height can be quantitatively controlled by in situ interferometric measurements. Proper choice of materials guarantees sufficient chemical inertia against contamination with salt ions. For efficient preparation of charged colloidal suspensions under strongly deionized conditions, the cell can be connected to a conventional pump circuit including a mixed b…
Porous organic cage compounds as highly potent affinity materials for sensing by quartz crystal microbalances.
2012
Porosity makes powerful affinity materials for quartz crystal microbalances. The shape-persistent organic cages and pores create superior affinity systems to existing ones for direct tracing of aromatic solvent vapors. A shape and size selectivity for the analytes is observed. These organic cages can be processed to thin films with highly reproducible sensing properties.
Electrochemistry and electrocatalysis of a Pt@poly(neutral red) hybrid nanocomposite
2015
Abstract Platinum nanoparticles have been deposited on a scaffold of electrosynthetized phenazine-type polymer, the poly(neutral red). This work discusses the role of poly(neutral red) in the electrochemistry and electrocatalysis properties of the hybrid nanocomposite. In situ combination of electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance and visible-near infrared spectroscopy (cyclic Vis-NIR spectroelectrogravimetry) and a combination of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and mass impedance spectroscopy ( ac -electrogravimetry) were employed. Two electrochemical processes have been identified in our experimental conditions. On the one hand, the radical cations (polarons) localized in the i…
Crystal growth of ZnO micro and nanostructures by PVT on c-sapphire and amorphous quartz substrates
2010
Abstract ZnO micro and nanostructures in the form of tripods, grains, arrows and wires have been grown at temperatures as low as 500–300 ∘ C by a vapour transport method without catalysis and using a well selected value of the carrier gas flow. A transition state between grains and nanowires is reported being characterized by arrow-like structures which are constituted by a pyramidal head and a tail that is growing from the basal plane of the head. In order to understand the effect of growth conditions on the morphology of micro and nanostructures, an analysis of temperature and species concentration conditions has been carried out. In addition two different kinds of substrates have been u…
Correlation analysis of vibration modes in physical vapour deposited Bi 2 Se 3 thin films probed by the Raman mapping technique
2021
In this work, the Raman spectroscopy mapping technique is used for the analysis of mechanical strain in Bi2Se3 thin films of various (3-400 nm) thicknesses synthesized by physical vapour deposition on amorphous quartz and single-layer graphene substrates. The evaluation of strain effects is based on the correlation analysis of in-plane (E2g) and out-of-plane (A21g) Raman mode positions. For Bi2Se3 films deposited on quartz, experimental datapoints are scattered along the line with a slope of similar to 0.85, related to the distribution of hydrostatic strain. In contrast to quartz/Bi2Se3 samples, for graphene/Bi2Se3 heterostructures with the same thicknesses, an additional negative slope of …

Infrared photoluminescence of preexisting or irradiation-induced interstitial oxygen molecules in glassySiO2and α-quartz
1998
A sensitive technique for detecting interstitial ${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ molecules in ${\mathrm{SiO}}_{2}$ is demonstrated by measuring their infrared $\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{a}X$ luminescence at 1272.2 nm under a Ti-sapphire laser excitation into the ${\mathrm{O}}_{2}\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{X}b$ absorption band at 765 nm. Contrary to the case of ${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ trapped in inert gas matrices, the visible emission of ${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ corresponding to the direct $\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{b}X$ transition is not found. Examination of different neutron- and gamma-irradiated glassy ${\mathrm{SiO}}_{2}$ and \ensuremath{\alpha}-quartz samples reveals radiation-in…
Light transmittance of zirconia as a function of thickness and microhardness of resin cements under different thicknesses of zirconia
2012
Objective: The objective of this study was to compare microhardness of resin cements under different thicknesses of zirconia and the light transmittance of zirconia as a function of thickness. Study design: A total of 126 disc-shaped specimens (2 mm in height and 5 mm in diameter) were prepared from dual-cured resin cements (RelyX Unicem, Panavia F and Clearfil SA cement). Photoactivation was performed by using quartz tungsten halogen and light emitting diode light curing units under different thicknesses of zirconia. Then the specimens (n=7/per group) were stored in dry conditions in total dark at 37°C for 24 h. The Vicker's hardness test was performed on the resin cement layer with a micr…
Push-out bond strength of quartz fiber posts to root canal dentin using total-etch and self-adhesive resin cements
2011
Objectives: Several adhesive systems are available for cementation of fibre posts into the root canal. The aim of the present study was to investigate the push-out bond strengths of quartz fibre posts to root dentin with the use of different total-etch and self-adhesive resin cements. Study Design: Ninety single-rooted human premolars were endodontically treated and standardized post-spaces were prepared. Fibre posts were cemented with different luting agents: total-etch (Nexus NX3, Duo-Link, and RelyX ARC) and self-adhesive resin cements (Maxcem Elite, BisCem, and RelyX Unicem). Three post/dentin sections (coronal, middle and apical) were obtained from each specimen, and push-out bond stre…
Cathodoluminescence of crystalline and amorphous SiO2 and GeO2
2001
Abstract Cathodoluminescence (CL) and its temperature-dose behaviour are presented for different crystalline and amorphous modifications of SiO 2 and GeO 2 as well as for Ge-doped SiO 2 layers. The crystalline samples include four-fold coordinated Si and Ge in hexagonal quartz and quartz-like crystals, respectively, as well six-fold coordinated atoms in tetragonal rutile-like crystals. The detected luminescence bands, in general, are attributed to three optical active luminescence centres: the two-fold coordinated silicon (=Si:) and germanium (=Ge:) centre, respectively, the non-bridging oxygen hole centre (NBOHC) and the self trapped exciton (STE). The first ones, the oxygen deficient cent…
