Many quinazoline derivatives have been synthesized over the last few decades with great pharmacological potential, such as antimalarial, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, and antiviral. But so far, no quinazoline–artemisinin hybrids have been reported in the literature. In the present study, five novel quinazoline–artemisinin hybrids were synthesized and evaluated for their in vitro biological activity against malarial parasites (Plasmodium falciparum 3D7), leukemia cells (CCRF-CEM and CEM/ADR5000), and human cytomegalovirus. A method based on micellar liquid chromatography to quantify the tyrosine kinase inhibitors axitinib, lapatinib and afatinib in plasma is reported. The sample pretreatment was a simple 1/5-dilution in a pure micellar solution, filtration and direct injection, without requiring extraction or purification steps. The three drugs were resolved from the matrix in 17 min, using an aqueous solution of 0.07 M sodium dodecyl sulfate – 6.0% 1-pentanol, buffered at pH 7 with 0.01 M phosphate salt as mobile phase, running under isocratic mode at 1 mL/min through a C18 column. The title compound, C15H14N2, was formed during the lithiation of 2-methylquinazoline with phenyllithium followed by hydrolysis of the intermediate lithium 2-methyl-4-phenyl-4H-quinazolin-3-ide. NMR spectra as well as single-crystal X-ray structural data indicate that the reaction product to have the same structure in chloroform solution as in the crystalline state. The phenyl substituent is twisted out of the plane of the 3,4-dihydroquinazoline ring system by 86.47 (7)°. In the crystal, intermolecular N-HN interactions connect the molecules into infinite chains. peerReviewed

Abstract Background Adherence to erlotinib could be a determinant for clinical outcome and treatment toxicity in patients with advanced non–small-cell lung cancer (A-NSCLC). Patients and Methods In an observational study, the Basel Assessment of Adherence Scale (BAAS), a visual analogue scale (VAS), pill counting, and missed appointment rate were used to evaluate adherence in a first cohort of patients who was prescribed erlotinib without a specifically designed management strategy and in a second cohort of patients followed by an oral treatment monitoring program.
