Scattering theory for a class of fermionic Pauli–Fierz models

2004

Abstract The scattering theory for a class of fermionic Pauli–Fierz models is considered. We give a proof of the asymptotic completeness of the dynamics in the case of massive fermions. The result applied to the Hamiltonian of a quantized spin- 1 2 Dirac particle interacting with an external field through a cutoff Yukawa interaction and to the Hamiltonian of a system of finitely many confined particles coupled to a fermionic field with a quadratic interaction.

The effect of vertical ground movement on masonry walls simulated through an elastic–plastic interphase meso-model: a case study

2019

The present paper proposes an interphase model for the simulation of damage propagation in masonry walls in the framework of a mesoscopic approach. The model is thermodynamically consistent, with constitutive relations derived from a Helmholtz free potential energy. With respect to classic interface elements, the internal stress contribute is added to the contact stresses. It is considered that damage, in the form of loss of adhesion or cohesion, can potentially take place at each of the two blocks–mortar physical interfaces. Flow rules are obtained in the framework of the Theory of Plasticity, considering bilinear domains of ‘Coulomb with tension cut-off’ type. The model aims to be a first…

Almost polynomial growth: Classifying varieties of graded algebras

2015

Let G be a finite group, V a variety of associative G-graded algebras and c (V), n = 1, 2, …, its sequence of graded codimensions. It was recently shown by Valenti that such a sequence is polynomially bounded if and only if V does not contain a finite list of G-graded algebras. The list consists of group algebras of groups of order a prime number, the infinite-dimensional Grassmann algebra and the algebra of 2 × 2 upper triangular matrices with suitable gradings. Such algebras generate the only varieties of G-graded algebras of almost polynomial growth, i.e., varieties of exponential growth such that any proper subvariety is polynomially bounded. In this paper we completely classify all sub…

A decentralized solution for the constrained minimum cost flow

2010

In this paper we propose a decentralized solution to the problem of network stabilization, under flow constraints ensuring steady—state flow optimality. We propose a stabilizing strategy for network flow control with capacity constraints which drives the buffer levels arbitrarily close to a desired reference. This is a decentralized strategy optimizing the flow via the minimization of a quadratic cost of the control. A second problem characterized by non-fully connected networks is also considered, for which an exact network equilibrium is not possible. Here, the strategy, in the absence of constraints leads to a least square decentralized problem, but, unfortunately, in the presence of con…

Identification and Robust Control of a Quadratic DC/DC Boost Converter by Hammerstein Model

2015

This paper deals with the theoretical framework definition and the experimental application of the Hammerstein (HM) identification and related robust control technique to a quadratic dc/dc single-switch boost (Q-boost) converter. A set of fourth-order transfer functions (TFs) has been identified with the Hammerstein approach, on the basis of a pseudorandom-binary-sequence (PRBS) excitation signal. The set of identified TFs has been then used to design a suitable robust control technique, able to properly deal with the converter parameter uncertainty and load variations. The proposed approach has been tested in numerical simulation and validated experimentally on a suitably developed test se…

Dynamic modelling of a quadratic DC/DC single-switch boost converter

2017

This manuscript proposes the analysis of a Quadratic Boost Converter (QBC) transformer-less single switch typology. The state space average dynamic model and a constrained state space average model taking into account the mono-directional components of the converter (diodes, switches) have been analyzed. The static gain expression taking into consideration the parasitic elements of the converter and the small-signal transfer function of the QBC typology under study has been obtained. A sensitivity analysis has shown a high variation of the gain versus duty-cycle and of the derivative gain versus parasitic parameters of the converter in the range of the duty-cycle from 0.6 to 0.8 which is ra…

Wireless OFDM-OQAM with a small number of subcarriers

2008

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing based on offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OFDM-OQAM) is a multicarrier signaling technique which trades off robustness for spectral efficiency when compared to conventional OFDM with a cyclic prefix. In this paper, a novel matrix model for passband OFDM-OQAM signaling with a small number of subcarriers over a multipath frequency selective fading channel is presented. Specifically, in OFDM-OQAM a frequency selective channel is divided into many smaller but still frequency selective overlapping channels, so approximating the frequency response of a subchannel by the channel frequency response sampled at the subcarrier frequency may be inadequa…

A genetic integrated fuzzy classifier

2005

This paper introduces a new classifier, that is based on fuzzy-integration schemes controlled by a genetic optimisation procedure. Two different types of integration are proposed here, and are validated by experiments on real data sets of biological cells. The performance of our classifier is tested against a feed-forward neural network and a Support Vector Machine. Results show the good performance and robustness of the integrated classifier strategies.

Sliding Mode Control of Quadratic Boost Converters Based on Min-Type Control Strategy

2023

The paper deals with the control of a quadratic boost converter supplied by low-voltage energy sources, such as photovoltaic panels, fuel cells, or batteries. The control scheme consists of two control loops. A min-type controller governs the inner loop to force the current state of the nominal model to converge in a neighborhood of the equilibrium state. The external loop processes the output tracking error using an integrator, and it allows reconfiguring the converter's working point by changing the equilibrium state given in the input to the internal loop. This configuration assures both zero tracking error of the output voltage and robustness against load and input voltage variations an…
