Dynamical generation of wormholes with charged fluids in quadratic Palatini gravity

The dynamical generation of wormholes within an extension of General Relativity (GR) containing (Planck's scale-suppressed) Ricci-squared terms is considered. The theory is formulated assuming the metric and connection to be independent (Palatini formalism) and is probed using a charged null fluid as a matter source. This has the following effect: starting from Minkowski space, when the flux is active the metric becomes a charged Vaidya-type one, and once the flux is switched off the metric settles down into a static configuration such that far from the Planck scale the geometry is virtually indistinguishable from that of the standard Reissner-Nordstr\"om solution of GR. Nonlinear σ -models in the Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity

In this paper we consider two different nonlinear $\sigma$-models minimally coupled to Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity. We show that the resultant geometries represent minimal modifications with respect to those found in GR, though with important physical consequences. In particular, wormhole structures always arise, though this does not guarantee by itself the geodesic completeness of those space-times. In one of the models, quadratic in the canonical kinetic term, we identify a subset of solutions which are regular everywhere and are geodesically complete. We discuss characteristic features of these solutions and their dependence on the relationship between mass and global charge.

Historical Origins of the nine-point conic -- The Contribution of Eugenio Beltrami

In this paper, we examine the evolution of a specific mathematical problem, i.e. the nine-point conic, a generalisation of the nine-point circle due to Steiner. We will follow this evolution from Steiner to the Neapolitan school (Trudi and Battaglini) and finally to the contribution of Beltrami that closed this journey, at least from a mathematical point of view (scholars of elementary geometry, in fact, will continue to resume the problem from the second half of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century). Statistical Properties of Double Hoyt Fading With Applications to the Performance Analysis of Wireless Communication Systems

In this paper, we investigate the statistical properties of double Hoyt fading channels, where the overall received signal is determined by the product of two statistically independent but not necessarily identically distributed single Hoyt processes. Finite-range integral expressions are first derived for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), level-crossing rate (LCR), and average duration of fades of the envelope fading process. Abstract University students often claim to have problems managing the time required to carry out their study demands successfully, which leads to discontent. The question is how much time do students really invest in their studies, what changes occur in time investment over a full academic term, and finally, how is study time related with students' daily study satisfaction? Banking Competition, Collateral Constraints and Optimal Monetary Policy

We analyze optimal monetary policy in a model with two distinct financial frictions. First, borrowing is subject to collateral constraints. Second, credit flows are intermediated by monopolistically competitive banks, thus giving rise to endogenous lending spreads. We show that, up to a second order approximation, welfare maximization is equivalent to stabilization of four goals: inflation, output gap, the consumption gap between constrained and unconstrained agents, and the distribution of the collateralizable asset between both groups.
