Mössbauer Spectral Study of Two Layered Honeycomb Molecular Magnets: PPh4FeIIFeIII(ox)3 and NBu4FeIIFeIII(ox)3

2002

The Mossbauer spectra of the layer ferrimagnets PPh4FeIIFeIII(ox)3 and NBu4FeIIFeIII(ox)3 have been measured between 1.9 and 315 K. The paramagnetic spectra exhibit both high-spin iron(II) and iron(III) doublets. The iron(II) quadrupole splittings are negative and decrease substantially upon cooling as a result of a low-symmetry crystal field splitting. In contrast, the iron(III) splittings are small, positive, and virtually independent of temperature. The respective magnetic ordering temperatures of 30 and 42.5 K agree well with the phase observed by bulk magnetometry and the magnetic sextets yield hyperfine fields of ca. 60 kOe for iron(II) and 540 kOe for iron(III). The unusually low iro…

Study of doubly strange systems using stored antiprotons

2016

Bound nuclear systems with two units of strangeness are still poorly known despite their importance for many strong interaction phenomena. Stored antiprotons beams in the GeV range represent an unparalleled factory for various hyperon-antihyperon pairs. Their outstanding large production probability in antiproton collisions will open the floodgates for a series of new studies of systems which contain two or even more units of strangeness at the PANDA experiment at FAIR. For the first time, high resolution gamma-spectroscopy of doubly strange Lambda Lambda-hypernuclei will be performed, thus complementing measurements of ground state decays of Lambda Lambda-hypernuclei at J-PARC or possible …

Effect of high hydrostatic pressure (HPP) and pulsed electric field (PEF) technologies on reduction of aflatoxins in fruit juices

2021

Abstract The high demand of fresh-like products to meet the fruits and vegetables serving encouraged the implementation of non-thermal food processing techniques, such as high pressure processing (HPP) and pulsed electric fields (PEF), with low impact on nutritional components. The aim of the present work is to evaluate the application of HPP and PEF techniques as useful decontamination tool for aflatoxins (AFs) reduction in grape juice. Spiked grape juice samples with AFs treated by PEF or HPP were extracted using dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) and determined by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS-IT). Reduction percentages of 14–29% have b…

Sensitive screening of synthetic cannabinoids using liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry after solid phase extraction.

2021

Analysis of synthetic cannabinoids still poses a challenge for many institutions due to the number of available substances and the constantly changing drug market. Both new and well-known substances keep appearing and disappearing on the market, making it hard to adapt analytical methods in a timely manner. In this study, we developed a qualitative screening approach for synthetic cannabinoids and their metabolites by means of liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF-MS). Samples were measured in data-dependent auto-MS/MS mode and identified by fragment spectra, retention time and accurate mass. Two established solid phase extractions were compared using fo…

Mössbauer study of properties and phase transitions of Cd2Nb2–2xSn2xO7–2xF2x

1973

With the aid of Mossbauer spectroscopy the solid solution series Cd2Nb2–2xSn2xO7–2xF2x are investigated in the temperature range 4.2 to 400 K. The crystal structure belongs to the cubic pyrochlore type. The BY6 octahedra (B = Nb, Sn; Y = O, F) are linked three-dimensionally through their corners, forming groups of four octahedra which are extended or compressed in the (111)-direction for x ≤ 0.375 or x ≥ 0.400 respectively. The dependence of the quadrupole splitting ΔEQ on x shows a small but significant discontinuity in the region 0.375 < x < 0.400. This can be attributed to a first order phase-transition which depends on concentration, but not on temperature over the temperature region st…

Computer simulations of a Lennard-Jones model for Ar1—x(N2)x: A prototype system for quadrupolar glasses

1998

Abstract Recent theoretical studies of orientational ordering in pure and diluted nitrogen crystals are summarized. While pure N2 has a first order phase transition from a plastic crystal to a phase with long-range orientational order, dilution with argon atoms leads to a quadrupolar glass phase. Monte Carlo simulations are used to study these phases, considering also the behavior of isolated N2 impurities in Ar crystals. It is shown that a simple model that neglects electrostatic interactions and takes only Lennard-Jones interactions into account can describe already many properties in qualitative agreement with experiment. Even the slow dynamics of the quadrupole moments can be modeled by…

Static and MAS 35CI NMR and Molecular Motions of ClO −4 Ions in the Various Phases of Multimethylammonium Perchlorates

1986

Static and MAS*) 35CI NMR data of CIO−4 ions in the low-, intermediate- and high-temperature phases of trimethylammonium, dimethylammonium and monomethylammonium perchlorates are reported. The observed solid-solid phase transitions are interrelated with the motional state of the perchlorate ions. In the low-temperature phase III of trimethylammonium perchlorate there is an anisotropic motion of the ClO−4 ions with a constant quadrupole frequency of 185 kHz and an increasing value of the asymmetry parameter when approaching phase transition III-II. The activation energy for this motion is found to be 44.3 kj/mol. At the transition III-II the ClO−4 ions gain orientational degrees of freedom m…

Use of a Continuous Wave Laser and Pockels Cell for Sensitive High-Resolution Collinear Resonance Ionization Spectroscopy

2015

New technical developments have led to a 2 orders of magnitude improvement of the resolution of the collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy (CRIS) experiment at ISOLDE, CERN, without sacrificing the high efficiency of the CRIS technique. Experimental linewidths of 20(1) MHz were obtained on radioactive beams of francium, allowing us for the first time to determine the electric quadrupole moment of the short lived [t1/2=22.0(5) ms]219Fr Qs=−1.21(2) eb, which would not have been possible without the advantages offered by the new method. This method relies on a continuous-wave laser and an external Pockels cell to produce narrow-band light pulses, required to reach the high resolution in t…

Stability ofS50100n50Deduced from Excited States inC4899d51

1996

Excited states of neutron deficient nuclei close to Sn-100 were investigated in an in-beam spectroscopic experiment using the NORDBALL detector array. Excited states in Cd-99 were identified for the first time. The measured half-life of an isomeric state in Cd-99 indicates that the stability with respect to quadrupole shape changes is as large in Sn-100 as for other heavy doubly magic nuclei.

Isomers inPd128andPd126: Evidence for a Robust Shell Closure at the Neutron Magic Number 82 in Exotic Palladium Isotopes

2013

The level structures of the very neutron-rich nuclei $^{128}\mathrm{Pd}$ and $^{126}\mathrm{Pd}$ have been investigated for the first time. In the $r$-process waiting-point nucleus $^{128}\mathrm{Pd}$, a new isomer with a half-life of $5.8(8)\text{ }\text{ }\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{s}$ is proposed to have a spin and parity of ${8}^{+}$ and is associated with a maximally aligned configuration arising from the ${g}_{9/2}$ proton subshell with seniority $\ensuremath{\upsilon}=2$. For $^{126}\mathrm{Pd}$, two new isomers have been identified with half-lives of 0.33(4) and $0.44(3)\text{ }\text{ }\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{s}$. The yrast ${2}^{+}$ energy is much higher in $^{128}\mathrm{Pd}$ than in…
