Examination of coagulant additives on qualitative composition of selected thermal waters

2017

On the territory of Poland occur rich deposits of thermal waters. Although the utilisation of these waters is continuously extending, Poland is not exploiting their full geothermal potential due to high investment costs. Thermal waters industry in Poland to date indicates operations within mainly balneology as well as recreation objectives. Higher temperature values of these waters foster a washout in the surrounding rocks resulting in a high concentration of diluted substances which must be often removed. The following study investigates thermal waters from three intakes for which coagulation processes were conducted. Research clearly shows that coagulant additives not impact on the qualit…

A twofold commodification of 'place' in hotel websites and its consequences for the discursive creation of a tourist identity.

2016

Tourism is a global cultural industry and one of the world’s largest international trades (Thurlow & Jaworski, 2011). As far as tourism is understood as an agent and channel of globalisation (Pritchard & Jaworski, 2005), it makes sense to investigate it from a critical perspective and analyse how its discourse shapes the tourist experience. The aim of this study is to explore ways in which hotel websites project a place identity for the hotel and, in doing so, for the town or city in which the hotel is located. I will ask how, and in what ways, this representation relies on socio-cultural conventions, which in turn may influence the discursive construction of the social actor “tourist”. Usi…

Professional Competences of Music Therapists Working in Post-stroke Rehabilitation

2012

The aim of this qualitative study is to gain more insight into the skills and knowledge that music therapists feel they need, in order to work successfully with people who have had an acute stroke. For this purpose, six music therapists were interviewed about their own particular specialist education. Another interview topic for them was to recount their subjective experiences of poststroke rehabilitation work in hospitals and health care units during the course of two projects that they participated in. The first was a project that specifically used music listening during acute stroke rehabilitation; and the second was a project, which used more active music therapy techniques, like drummi…

The quest for promoting integrated care in the Nordic countries – recent reform initiatives, outcomes and obstacles

2013

Coordination between primary and secondary health care has been the core of Nordic health policy during the last decade [1]. In 2012, Norway introduced a cooperation reform aiming for strengthening integration between primary and secondary health care [2]. During the last decades, Sweden has restructured for a more community oriented health care system [4]. The objective of the paper are to compare integrated health policy measures and reforms and their outcomes in Denmark, Sweden and Norway, with regard to success and obstacles for improving “seamless” health care. Current…

Difficulties Perceived by ICU Nurses Providing End-of-Life Care: A Qualitative Study

2020

Background: With advances in medicine and technology, intensive care units (ICUs) have the capacity to treat patients who would have previously not been expected to survive and would therefore not have been managed in ICUs. The aim of this study was to identify difficulties perceived by ICU nurses providing end-of-life care (EOLC) in Poland. Methods: The qualitative study was designed to investigate the difficulties, and the related barriers, to EOLC provided in ICUs in Poland. We conducted individual telephone interviews with I…
