Innovation practices in schools: The impact of different models of organization on the practice of Norwegian municipalities
2017
Services provided by primary schools have a significant impact on citizens’ living conditions. We need more knowledge of how innovation activities in primary schools should be organized and managed. This article addresses this gap by raising the following question: ‘Why do municipalities have different ways of organizing preventive work in primary schools and what impact do different organizational approaches have on professionals’ judgement and their decisions to call attention to children at risk, their response patterns and interdisciplinary/interagency cooperation?’ The qualitative exploration of these questions is based on in-depth interviews with head teachers and teachers in 10 Norw…
The scientific status of qualitative
2009
This work is focused on the Scientific Status of Qualitative. In our opinions, it constitutes the broadest level our work can be organised into, the most general epistemological frame, within which the specific spheres of application and of research take on a more comprehensive meaning and a more correct capacity of explication. The paradigm of complessity represents, in fact, both at theoretical-epistemological and methodological level, a fundamental reference point in tackling the issue of psychology in a more appropriate way. It, starting from a comprehensive analytical review of the paradigm of “classical” science and of the principles and tools of the experimental method (Morin, 1983; …
Varieties of agencies during working life changes
2020
The aim of this study is to shed light on the varieties of workers´ agencies in working life change situations, which is an under-researched topic in the literature of workplace learning and in working life studies. The research questions are what kinds of agencies there are to be found when workers encounter changes and how the different kinds of agencies are connected together. The understanding of agency is grounded on the subject-centered socio-cultural approach, whereas the methodological approach is based on applying life-course perspective on research material consisting of 48 working life narratives written by Finnish adults. The narratives are analyzed by abductive content analysis…
Ethical E-Participation
2015
The most recent forms of e-participation seem to provide new issues that need to be discussed. One such discussion involves the role of GIS. Can an ethically aware GIS be conceived? What does it mean for a GIS to be ethical at all? Throughout this paper, first the authors create a theoretical framework to encompass four key elements that lead us to the definition of ethical digital mapping: GIS ethics, social justice, power, and participation. Then they introduce the concept of PPGIS (Public Participation GIS), and argue that only a ‘qualitative turn' can enhance their importance in decision-making processes. Finally, the authors discuss an experiment that is currently taking place in Paler…
Walking through Dangerous Neighbourhoods: Ethics and Qualitative Research in Palermo
2013
“Ethical considerations are clearly important in the practice, subject matter and research priorities of geography. […] Cultivating a dialogue on ethics […] contributes to us becoming more fully conscious human beings” (Routledge, 2010: 399). This presentation implies that ethics must become an important topic to be discussed in geographic qualitative research. The case study is an action-research project, which took place in Palermo focusing on the way different neighbourhoods are nowadays perceived in the city. A particularly significant case presented is the (in)famous ‘ZEN’ neighbourhood: in 2005, some Dutch college students came to Palermo to visit the ZEN neighbourhood, and were accom…

Group-Analysis and Education in Psychological Academic Training
2012
The aim of the paper is to present an integrated model of training groups (from median to large group) which can afford an useful instrument in psychologist’s academic education, decreasing the distance between theory and practice inside the university programs. The model proposed integrates methodological knowledge and relational experience using median and large groups as real contexts for training. Qualitative research methods like textual analysis can demonstrate the validity and efficacy of a group-oriented professional education. Using T-LAB, researchers can find if the group-analytic way to think psychologist’s academic education demonstrates efficacy and is coherent with the theoret…

It also contributes to the literature on emergency management in the context of Europe. The method of a case study was employed for this qualitative research seeking to clarify the situation and provide answers to the research question. The research showed that much attentio…
