DEGRADATIVE ENZYMATIC ACTIVITIES IN FRESH-CUT BLOOD ORANGE SLICES DURING CHILLED STORED
2009
Summary Blood-orange fruits are suitable to fresh-cut fruit production because of their chemical compositions. Nevertheless, the main limitation of using freshly cut oranges is their susceptibility to juiciness loss and ascorbic acid degradation because of enzymatic alterations. The aim of this work is: to identify some of the enzymes causing the qualitative decay in blood-orange slices during 15 days of chilled storage (at 4 ± 0.5 °C and 85% RH); to investigate the susceptibility to the previous alterations of five blood-orange clones (Moro nucellare, Sanguinello nucellare, Tarocco arcimusa, Tarocco gallo and Tarocco meli) to select the most suitable one for fresh-cut production. The enzym…
The Comparison of Software Reliability Assessment Models
2015
Abstract The reliability of the software represents one of the most important attributes of software quality, and the estimation of the reliability of the software is a problem hard to solve with accuracy. Nevertheless, in order to manage the quality of the software and of the standard practices in an organization, it is important to achieve an estimation of the reliability as accurate as possible. In the present work there are described the principles and techniques which underlie the estimation of the reliability of the software, starting from the definition of the concepts which express the attributes of software quality. It is taken into account the issue of the estimation of a software…

Method for Reproducible Shipboard Segmented Flow Analysis Ammonium Measurement Using an In-House Reference Material for Quality Control
2021
Ammonium is a fundamental nutrient for phytoplankton growth in seawater and is a key component of the microbial loop. Ammonium measured in parallel with other nutrients is crucial in understanding the small temporal scale changes in oceanographic ecology. Despite the importance of measuring ammonium at sea, owing to its lability, there is no consensus on the best method. The lack of availability of certified reference materials for ammonium in seawater also makes it difficult to assess the accuracy and reproducibility of ammonium measurements. In this study we present a modified segmented flow analysis method using ortho-phthaldialdehyde (OPA) with fluorescence detection to measure ammonium…
Quality evaluation of software architecture with application to OpenH.323 protocol
2006
Master's Thesis in Information Technology 3rd October 2006 The requirements towards software systems usually go beyond the correct functionality, the presence of certain quality demands are also very essential for the systems' acceptance by the stakeholders. So quality control and management must be carried out through the whole development process to ensure the implementation of required quality characteristics. This thesis focuses on the quality control of the software architecture. Several approaches for evaluating the architecture are presented. Furthermore the OpenH.323 protocol architecture is evaluated in a case study. That software architecture is evaluated with two approaches: Arch…
Scripts for Quality Control of SISAL workbooks
2020
Files needed for Quality Control checks of the SISALworkbook_v12 (Comas-Bru and Harrison, 2019). This includes a Python script (wb_check_v12_compatible.py) for automatic checks and an R script (plot_agemodels_hiatus_v12) for manual checks. Instructions on how to run these scripts are provided in a README_instructions.txt file. See supplementary material of Comas-Bru et al (2020, https://doi.org/10.5194/essd-2020-39) for further information on the checks.
Issues in e-learning quality assurance
2011
As a decisive factor, the future of any discipline rests on quality, and e-learning is no exception. Due to its multidisciplinary nature, the contribution from various fields such as education, technology, and economy are needed to achieve quality, thereby creating rich learning experience. Undertaking such a task is challenging according to Pawlowski and Ehler (2006) because "it is necessary to find a valid perspective and definition of quality. This requires an answer to the question for which processes of educational scenario quality development has to be carried out, which quality and according to which perspective it is defined." Being diverse and situational/context dependent, there s…
Real-world experience with obeticholic acid in patients with primary biliary cholangitis
2021
Background & aims Obeticholic acid (OCA) is the second-line treatment approved for patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and an inadequate response or intolerance to ursodeoxycholic acid. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of OCA under real-world conditions. Methods Patients were recruited into the Italian PBC Registry, a multicentre, observational cohort study that monitors patients with PBC at national level. The primary endpoint was the biochemical response according to Poise criteria; the secondary endpoint was the biochemical response according to normal range criteria, defined as normal levels of bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and alanine aminotransfer…
Testing a methodology to improve organizational learning about crisis communication
2011
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to introduce a measurement system with performance indicators to improve organizational learning about crisis communication by public organizations. The tool can be used to conduct a preparedness audit or to evaluate communication performance in a real situation or in an emergency exercise. Evaluation is part of the strategic planning and development of crisis communication. The construction of the instrument and its theoretical underpinnings are first explained, after which the series of empirical tests that were implemented to scrutinize the clarity and appropriateness of the indicators as well as the usability of the instrument are presented. Design…
