Ab initio study of rotational isomerism and electronic structure of isomeric bipyrroles
1985
Abstract Ab initio calculations using STO-3G and 4-31G basis sets have been performed on the internal rotation barriers and conformational stabilities for 2,3′- and 3,3′-bipyrrole. The twofold rotation potential predicted for both isomers at minimal basis level becomes a more involved fourfold potential when the split-valence basis set is employed, because it takes into account more properly the nonbonded interannular interactions. A transoid-gauche minimum is predicted to have the minimal absolute conformational energy in both isomers. The electronic structure of the highest occupied MOs of 2,2′-, 2,3′- and 3,3′-bipyrrole are analyzed in terms of the single pyrrole MO pattern and a similar…
Adsorbed CO on group 10 metal fragments: A DFT study
2009
DFT calculations on the helicopter and cartwheel rotations of one CO molecule adsorbed at the bridge site on metal-surface fragments, characterized by two (M(8)) or three (M(14)) metal-atom layers (M = Ni, Pd, Pt) were performed by the B3LYP[LANL2DZ+6-31 g(d,p)] method, to rationalize the adsorption energetics and the steric hindrance characteristics of surface CO molecules. Potential Energy Surfaces were obtained, either fixing the C-O bond-length or allowing it to change. The behavior of the three metals, as obtained from the study of the configurational space characterizing the CO adsorption on the fragments was explained on the basis of the interaction energies involved in the different…
Does glycosyl transfer involve an oxacarbenium intermediate? Computational simulation of the lifetime of the methoxymethyl cation in water
2011
2D free-energy surfaces for transfer of the methoxymethyl cation between two water molecules are constructed from molecular dynamics (MD) simulations in which these atoms are treated quantum-mechanically within a box of 1030 classical solvent water molecules at 300 K. This provides a simple model for glycosyl transfer in water. The AM1/TIP3P surfaces with 2D-spline corrections at either MPWB1K/6-31+G(d,p) or MP2/6-31+G(d,p) contain a shallow free-energy well corresponding to an oxacarbenium ion intermediate in a DN*AN mechanism. MD analysis at three temperatures leads to a classical estimate of the lifetime of the methoxymethyl cation in water; when quantum corrections for vibrational zero-…
Magnetic Excitations in Polyoxometalate Clusters Observed by Inelastic Neutron Scattering: Evidence for Anisotropic Ferromagnetic Exchange Interacti…
1999
The ground-state properties of the tetranuclear Co2+ cluster [Co4(H2O)2(PW9O34)2]10- were investigated by combining specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, and magnetization measurements with a detailed inelastic neutron scattering (INS) study on a fully deuterated sample of K10[Co4(H2O)2(PW9O34)2]·22H2O. As a result of the single ion anisotropy of the octahedral Co2+, the appropriate exchange Hamiltonian of the Co4 spin cluster is anisotropic. INS turns out to be essential for the determination of energy splittings in the ground state resulting from the coupling. Besides the energy pattern, INS provides information about the wave functions of the split ground-state components of the spin c…
The equilibrium structure of trans-glyoxal from experimental rotational constants and calculated vibration–rotation interaction constants
2003
A total of six high-resolution FT-IR spectra for trans-glyoxal-d2, trans-glyoxal-d1 and trans-glyoxal-13C2 were recorded with a resolution ranging from 0.003 to 0.004 cm−1. By means of a simultaneous ground state combination difference analysis for each of these isotopologues using the Watson Hamiltonian in A-reduction and Ir-representation the ground state rotational constants are obtained. An empirical equilibrium structure is determined for trans-glyoxal using these experimental ground state rotational constants and vibration–rotation interaction constants calculated at the CCSD(T)/cc-pVTZ level of theory. The least-squares fit yields the following structural parameters for trans-glyoxal…
Extended Fourier-transform spectroscopy studies and deperturbation analysis of the spin-orbit coupled A1Σ+ and b3Π states in RbCs.
2014
The article presents a study of the strongly spin-orbit coupled singlet A(1)Σ(+) and triplet b(3)Π states of the RbCs molecule, which provide an efficient optical path to transfer ultracold molecules to their rovibrational ground state. Fourier-transform A(1)Σ(+) - b(3)Π → X(1)Σ(+) and (4)(1)Σ(+) → A(1)Σ(+) - b(3)Π laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) spectra were recorded for the natural mixture of the (85)Rb(133)Cs and (87)Rb(133)Cs isotopologues produced in a heat pipe oven. Overall 8730 rovibronic term values of A(1)Σ(+) and b(3)Π states were determined with an uncertainty of 0.01 cm(-1) in the energy range [9012, 14087] cm(-1), covering rotational quantum numbers J ∈ [6, 324]. An energy-ba…
Multireference equation-of-motion coupled cluster theory.
2012
A generalization of the equation-of-motion coupled cluster theory is proposed, which is built upon a multireference parent state. This method is suitable for a number of electronic states of a system that can be described by similar active spaces, i.e., different linear combinations of the same set of active space determinants. One of the suitable states is chosen as the parent state and the dominant dynamical correlation is optimized for this state using an internally contracted multireference coupled cluster ansatz. The remaining correlation and orbital relaxation effects are obtained via an uncontracted diagonalization of the transformed Hamiltonian, Ĥ = e(-T) Ĥe(T), in a compact multire…
Hartree–Fock study of adhesion and charge redistribution on the Ag/MgO(0 0 1) interface
2001
Abstract Ab initio study of the Ag/MgO(0 0 1) interfaces based on a quantitative analysis of the bonding in the interfacial region is provided in the framework of Hartree–Fock approach. We are describing the way interfacial electronic and other properties evolve as a function of metal coverage. General conclusion that could be drawn from our calculations is that chemical bond formation is not important for the Ag/MgO(0 0 1) perfect interface. Physisorption of Ag atoms over surface O 2− ions associated with atomic polarization and charge redistribution in the metal planes are the dominant effects. The adhesion energy is enhanced by the interaction of the substrate Mg 2+ ions with the surplus…
An ab Initio MO Study of Silver Triflate Complexation in [2.2.1]Cyclophane π-Prismands
2002
Ab initio Hartree-Fock and DFT MO calculations have been used to study the conformations of six [2.2.1]cyclophane π-prismands and the formation of their π-complexes with silver triflate (AgSO 3 CF 3 ). The lowest energy cyclophane conformations and their silver triflate π-complexes have been calculated with HF/3-21G* and B3LYP/3-21G* levels of theory. The nature of bonding in silver triflate π-complexes has been studied with natural bond orbital analysis (NBO). Energies of the calculated cyclophanes and complexes, together with the formation energies of those complexes, have also been discussed. The results have been compared to available X-ray crystal structures and also to results of the …
Structural and electronic contributions to hyperpolarizability in methyl p-hydroxy benzoate
2006
Abstract The single crystals of methyl p-hydroxy benzoate (MPHB) are grown from methanol solution by a low temperature solution growth technique. The SHG efficiency is tested using Q-switched Nd:YAG laser of wavelength λ at 1064 nm, which is approximately 1.2 times that of urea. Vibrational spectral analysis using NIR-FT Raman and FT-IR spectra is carried out to understand the structural and electronic contributions to hyperpolarizability in MPHB. The DFT computations are also performed at B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level to derive equilibrium geometry, vibrational wavenumbers and intensities. The results of ab initio calculations at HF/6-311G(d,p) level show that the vibrational contribution for th…
