Vibrating and shaking soliton pairs in dissipative systems

We show that two-soliton solutions in nonlinear dissipative systems can exist in various forms. As with single solitons, they can be stationary, periodic or chaotic. In particular, we find new types of vibrating and shaking soliton pairs. Each type of pair is stable in the sense that the bound state exists in the same form indefinitely. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. Soliton generation and rogue-wave like behavior through fourth order modulation instability

International audience; We numerically study the dynamics of ultra-broadband wavelength converters based on fourth-order scalar modulation instability. We report the spontaneous emergence of solitons and trapped radiation waves as well as L-shaped associated statistical signatures.

In this prospective work, we analyze the cascadability and reshaping properties of a quantum well microcavity saturable absorber (SA) device cascaded inside a RZ-signal SMF-based transmission line to annihilate the ghost-pulse phenomenon taking place in the "...01010101..." 160-Gbit/s 2-bit pattern.

Regions of Existence and Transformations of (3+1)-D Dissipative Optical Solitons

We demonstrate the existence of stable optical light bullets in nonlinear dissipative media featuring both normal and anomalous chromatic dispersion. Beyond the domain where stable bullets are found, unstable bullets can be transformed into "rockets".

Local detection of the optical magnetic field in the near zone of dielectric samples

International audience; We present a study of the influence of the probe composition on the formation of constant-height photon scanning tunneling microscope images when observing a dielectric sample. Dramatic effects due to the metallization of the tip are presented and discussed in detail. We show how the recorded images can look quite different when the probe is dielectric or coated with gold. Comparison with numerical calculations indicate that the experimental signals are of electric or magnetic nature depending on the composition of the tip. Micro- and nanocavities allow for strong light confinement in very small volume [1]. We examine the semiclassical time- dependent quantum two-state problem, when the external electromagnetic field is resonant or quasi-resonant for some two of many levels of the system. The Bloch mode spectrum of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) on a finite thickness metal film has been analyzed in the regimes of weak and strong coupling between SPP modes on the opposite film interfaces. The SPP mode dispersion and associated field distributions have been studied. The results have been applied to the description of the light transmission through thick and thin periodically structured metal films at oblique incidence. In contrast to normal incidence, all SPP Bloch modes on a grating structure participate in the resonant photon tunnelling leading to the transmission enhancement.
