Λc+ production in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV and in p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

2018

The pT-differential production cross section of prompt Λ+ c charmed baryons was measured with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in pp collisions at √ s = 7 TeV and in p-Pb collisions at √ sNN = 5.02 TeV at midrapidity. The Λ+ c and Λ– c were reconstructed in the hadronic decay modes Λ+ c → pK−π +, Λ+ c → pK0 S and in the semileptonic channel Λ+ c → e +νeΛ (and charge conjugates). The measured values of the Λ + c /D0 ratio, which is sensitive to the c-quark hadronisation mechanism, and in particular to the production of baryons, are presented and are larger than those measured previously in different colliding systems, centre-of-mass energies, rapidity and pT intervals, w…

Measurement of beauty production via non-prompt D0 mesons in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

2022

The production of non-prompt D0 mesons from beauty-hadron decays was measured at midrapidity (|y| 5 GeV/c in the 0–10% central Pb-Pb collisions. The data are described by models that include both collisional and radiative processes in the calculation of beauty-quark energy loss in the quark-gluon plasma, and quark recombination in addition to fragmentation as a hadronisation mechanism. The ratio of the non-prompt to prompt D0-meson RAA is larger than unity for pT> 4 GeV/c in the 0–10% central Pb-Pb collisions, as predicted by models in which beauty quarks lose less energy than charm quarks in the quark-gluon plasma because of their larger mass. Initial state in heavy ion collisions

2016

Abstract We briefly review advances in understanding the initial stages of a heavy ion collision. In particular the focus is on moving from parametrizing the initial state to calculating its properties from QCD, consistently with the description of hard probes and dilute-dense scattering experiments. Modeling the event-by-event fluctuating nuclear geometry in initial state calculations has significantly improved in recent years. We also discuss prospects of directly seeing effects of particle correlations created in the initial state in the experimental observables.

On the temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity in hot quenched lattice QCD

2011

Extending our recent work, we report on a calculation of the vector current correlation function for light valence quarks in the deconfined phase of quenched QCD in the temperature range 1.16Tc<T<2.98Tc. After performing a systematic analysis of the in fluence of cut-off effects on light quark meson correlators using clover improved Wilson fermions, we discuss resulting constraints on the electrical conductivity in a quark gluon plasma.

Centrality, rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of J/ψ suppression in Pb-Pb collisions at root(NN)-N-S=2.76TeV

2014

The inclusive J/ψ nuclear modification factor (RAA) in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN=2.76TeVhas been measured by ALICE as a function of centrality in the e+e−decay channel at mid-rapidity (|y| <0.8) and as a function of centrality, transverse momentum and rapidity in the μ+μ−decay channel at forward-rapidity (2.5 <y <4). The J/ψyields measured in Pb–Pb are suppressed compared to those in ppcollisions scaled by the number of binary collisions. The RAAintegrated over a centrality range corresponding to 90% of the inelastic Pb–Pb cross section is 0.72 ±0.06(stat.) ±0.10(syst.)at mid-rapidity and 0.58 ±0.01(stat.) ±0.09(syst.)at forward-rapidity. At low transverse momentum, significantly larger valu…

Centrality dependence of inclusive J/ψ production in p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

2015

We present a measurement of inclusive J/ψ production in p-Pb collisions at √ sNN = 5.02 TeV as a function of the centrality of the collision, as estimated from the energy deposited in the Zero Degree Calorimeters. The measurement is performed with the ALICE detector down to zero transverse momentum, pT, in the backward (−4.46 < ycms < −2.96) and forward (2.03 < ycms < 3.53) rapidity intervals in the dimuon decay channel and in the mid-rapidity region (−1.37 < ycms < 0.43) in the dielectron decay channel. The backward and forward rapidity intervals correspond to the Pb-going and p-going direction, respectively. The pT-differential J/ψ production cross section at backward and forward rapidity…

Quantum and classical dynamics of heavy quarks in a quark-gluon plasma

2018

We derive equations for the time evolution of the reduced density matrix of a collection of heavy quarks and antiquarks immersed in a quark gluon plasma. These equations, in their original form, rely on two approximations: the weak coupling between the heavy quarks and the plasma, the fast response of the plasma to the perturbation caused by the heavy quarks. An additional semi-classical approximation is performed. This allows us to recover results previously obtained for the abelian plasma using the influence functional formalism. In the case of QCD, specific features of the color dynamics make the implementation of the semi-classical approximation more involved. We explore two approximate…

Determination of the non-abelian Debye screening mass using classical chromodynamics

2014

Investigations of Anisotropic Flow Using Multiparticle Azimuthal Correlations in pp, p-Pb, Xe-Xe, and Pb-Pb Collisions at the LHC

2019

Measurements of anisotropic flow coefficients ($v_n$) and their cross-correlations using two- and multi-particle cumulant methods are reported in collisions of pp at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV, p-Pb at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV, Xe-Xe at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}} = 5.44$ TeV, and Pb-Pb at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV recorded with the ALICE detector. The multiplicity dependence of $v_n$ is studied in a very wide range from 20 to 3000 particles produced in the mid-rapidity region $||<0.8$ for the transverse momentum range $0.2 < p_{\rm T} < 3.0$ GeV/$c$. An ordering of the coefficients $v_2 > v_3 > v_4$ is found in pp and p-Pb collisions, similar to that seen in large coll…

Centrality dependence of ψ(2S) suppression in p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

2016

The inclusive production of the ψ(2S) charmonium state was studied as a function of centrality in p-Pb collisions at the nucleon-nucleon center of mass energy √ sNN = 5.02 TeV at the CERN LHC. The measurement was performed with the ALICE detector in the center of mass rapidity ranges −4.46 < ycms < −2.96 and 2.03 < ycms < 3.53, down to zero transverse momentum, by reconstructing the ψ(2S) decay to a muon pair. The ψ(2S) production cross section σψ(2S) is presented as a function of the collision centrality, which is estimated through the energy deposited in forward rapidity calorimeters. The relative strength of nuclear effects on the ψ(2S) and on the corresponding 1S charmonium state J/ψ is…
